I've never heard a song like this before. But then again, there's never been a song like this before, like Mrs. Train
Love it!! ❤
Wish TMBG would release a new collection of rare songs, this is such a cool song.
If only they finished making it. There were plans for one to release one around 1996, but that idea got crushed after they left Elektra and the Then: The Earlier Years collection project came into view. Really hope they release it someday.
I got this song by buying the John Henry+Factory Showroom 2 CD release. When the song finishes, my brain expects it to be immediately followed by the remix of Snail Shell called "Snail Dust".
@@ThreadBomb I have it via the EP “back to skull” just really wish it came out in a more convenient collection like on Spotify
I wish they'd play it live some time.
It’s coming! Flansburgh mentioned all the EPs getting reissue in a sort of compiled form soon :)
I like how this song speeds up slowly like a train
in typical linnell fashion, the song is like performing slight of hand lyrically. it's initially describing a queue (or "train") and alluding vaguely to walking down a wedding aisle, until it becomes apparent in that TMBG gallows humor way that what the narrator's been describing is seemingly a bunch of people in line to view a dead body, all the while conveyed using this looping meter and gradually accelerating tempo that invokes the other definition of 'train'
I expect that it doesn’t matter to the missing head that I comment now.
Thanks for being patient for the lyrics.....
I don't want to be first in line to see Mrs. Train
I expect that it doesn't matter to Mrs. Train
Being comfortable with yourself
And being patient and taking your time
Are the things that Mrs. Train can understand
I've never seen a train like this before
But then again, there's never been
A train like this before, like Mrs. Train
And someone's got to be the one to declare
That they want to be next in line to see Mrs. Train
But I don't want to be first in line to see Mrs. Train
I expect that it doesn't matter to Mrs. Train
Being patient and taking your time
Are things a train can understand
And I'll be happy when I finally take her hand
There's never been a train like this before
Someone's got to be the one
At the head of the line to first see Mrs. Train
But I'm not in any rush to head the line
And so the line has a missing head
And I don't want to be first in line to see the missing head
I expect that it doesn't matter to the missing head
Being patient and taking your time
Are things that a head can understand
And I'll be happy when I finally take its hand
There's never been a head like this before
Someone's got to be the one
At the head of the line to first see the missing head
But I'm not in any rush to head the line
And so the line has a missing head
(Missing head) And I don't want to be first in line to see the missing head
(Missing head) I expect that it doesn't matter to the missing head
Being patient and taking your time
Are things that a head can understand
And I'll be happy when I finally take its hand
It’s okay. Being patient and taking your time are things a head can understand.
i can help the next in line
They have never performed this live ever.... :(
I mean that's not the biggest surprise, I imagine the increasing tempo would play merry havoc with timing.
I don't want to be the first in line to comment :(
awldune i'll be next in line to you. I understand. you should be more comfortable with yourself be patient and take your time.
+awldune Well damn, now these comments have a missing head. And I don't want to be first in line to see the missing head.
+awldune There's never been a comment before like the first comment.
Bless you for your reluctance - instead of simply shouting "WOO FIRST!" or something similar.
I'm not in any rush, but I'll be happy when I finally take that comment's hand.
I don’t want to be first in line to see the missing head
So does the tempo increase every measure, or at the end of each verse? Seems like the latter but its hard to tell rn. Would love to make a cover in the style of their drum machine days but that tempo question has kinda stumped me lol
holy shit jimmy carter
if there isn't an A.I. that could scan the song and answer your question it will soon
