Wow, 5 foot way still works in Singapore, at least. In KL/major cities citizens still maintain it well.
It’s said, in historical records, 5 foot way was started in Ceylon, then Straits Settlements. Then, the concept spreaded to South China and Taiwan.
In Taiwan, they have revised in different versions. Today, ~50% of the walkways are being blocked to dysfunction. Only in very famous tourist districts, strict enforcement on illegal parked motorcycles and unreasonable blockade.
