- Every community has a dark side, and the TF2 Trading Community is no different. This is a part 2 to my last video of how I 'thought' I made over $1000 opening crates/cases, and instead learned about The Dark Side of TF2 Trading.
This is an informative video to bring notice to these types of players within the community, and help inform newer players to avoid getting involved in these types of situations and about how items on backpack.tf are fairly and properly priced.

As someone who has dealt plenty in rare and limited unusual hats, I can say this thankfully hasn't happened too much in trading.
There was something like this a friend of mine got engaged in, but that was more of the only people who were selling all inflating the price of this one hat for the memes, they didn't go out of their way to pressure anyone on that price (and it didn't last in the end).
Also I'd add a 4th point to your suppy and demand section: Miscs, which are hats that do not take up the same region and can be stacked with other hats, these are very rare now-a-days and often exceed 500 keys or even low tier effects. (bought a Miami Nights Polar Pullover, all class misc, for 300 keys, sold it a few years later for 1000 keys, these things have skyrocketed in price!)

Huh, that's really interesting. That seems like such a waste, but after everything I learned I wouldn't be surprised 😅
Why not just make alts and put then on private backpacks so backpack dont detect them

Always make sure to stay vigilant when it comes to TF2 Trading, and make sure you don't get scammed and made to pay far more for an item than it's worth. Shoutout to the person who helped me even be able to make this video; wouldn't have been possible without you, and I definitely wouldn't be nearly as knowledgeable as I am now 😄

Thank you man, I'll do my best :) been a bit hard to work on the videos I currently have in the works, just lost my Grandma 2 weeks ago and my dog of 14 years yesterday, but I'll try to be back to making even more soon
opening new crates and getting new effects is always a rollercoaster, very easy to manipulate or cheat people out of keys.
I got lucky opening a wicked wick duck billed hatypus and a horsemann's hack prehistoric pullover, both 1:1s, and selling them is gonna take a while until prices stabilize
Oh for sure, it's one hell of a wild ride seeing the purple text, and no doubt it'll take some time before the prices for all the new unusuals get stabilized; congrats on the unboxes by the way!

Could this explain the price of collector's items?
It very well could; I've heard there are oftentimes many instances of intentional hoarding and price-fixing within the TF2 Trading Community for certain items, a previous comment even said that people were hoarding Strange Gunslingers and deleting them to keep the prices high, and I know for sure there's gotta be more items being manipulated like that.
There was even a story about someone buying multiple Golden Pans and if I'm not wrong it wasn't even very long ago, so who knows? There's so many items within TF2, and with all the different Unusual Effects; there's no telling how many items could be being price-manipulated.
Wow! thank god you brought this to people's attention. It's been a problems for as long as I remember, I think this was happening even in 2012 or 2013. This really did kinda scam a lot of poeple i guess

Has anyone noticed the buy order price of low tier unusuals falling dramatically in the last few weeks. Theres now so many of them with b/o at 7k... Could it be the frequent steam sales this time of the year cutting people's interest in unusual trading or something else?

Hey man i kinda did this with a discord server, but we did it as a "meme" we basically bought as many strange bonk atomic punches in the community market until the price went from 50 cents to 4 eur/dollars.
i kinda regret not using this oppertunity to make some cash, but i made some fun memories
i grinded my strange bonk until it has 4k
btw it was the server of a tf2 "celeb" called Bonk Drinker
so u guys didn't do it as a meme and actually did manipulate the prices, ur part of the problem 😂
Thanks for covering this, sadly, there are many more price gouging incidents that aren't as obnoxious. Backpack.tf staff doesn't seem to care as long as it doesn't cause any scandal. So glad i left that awful trading community 4 years ago.
Oh and not to even mention the bot owner dick-sucking that the staff seems to be doing, they banned a guy who sold his items to a bot that had a bug in its overcutting script and made the price way too high. the site is basically just bots, finding a human trader even for unusuals is rare.
Praise to the robot overlords bringing us together

A hat being “Clean” isn’t about how the hat looks. Its about if its duped or not. You’re not equipped to be making videos about trading if you don’t know that.
I agree that these groups are in the wrong, i dont think its wrong to ask someone to up the price if they are consistently undercutting others just to get a faster trade
why do so many tf2 videos feel the need to start by talking about how old the game is

Because it is one of the only games to go through over a decade of updates and still be alive.
