Thanks for your reaction !!! I've always loved this performance !!! This song was written by Walter Earl Brown and recorded by Elvis in June 1968, two months after King's assassination. The recording was first released to the public as the finale of Presleys's '68 Comeback Special. Earl Brown said than when Elvis recorded the song, Brown saw tears rolling down the cheeks of the three back up singers. One of them whispered to him: "Elvis has never sung with such emotion before. Elvis sang this as a tribute to Martin Luther king Jr. Whom Elvis deeply admired. Martin Luther king was assassinated 2 months before this was made. Elvis grew up dirt poor and primarily hung out in black neighborhood where he had many friends. Elvis was influenced by black culture and black music from a very early age, and took heavy inspiration from it. He made blues and "gospel" Mainstream. Martin Luther Kings Death deeply saddened him, and he was giving it his all while singing this song. This is my favorite vocal performance ever, you can truly hear the emotion and feelings that Elvis had gone through.

rendition is extraordinary
& it reminds us about what an extraordinary
man Elvis was! He was in a class by himself & his
talents are unsurpassed! Thanks for your marvelous reaction to the music of our
dear friend! So glad you enjoy Elvis'
meaningful music! If he were still with us he would say;"Thank-
you, thank-you very much", to you ,with that little crooked smile of his!
Thanks again! May you always be blessed by God's love!!
Thank You🙏🏾
The first and only time Elvis sang this live.
Best ever - you could feel the ground shaking from this performance. What a voice - what a performance!
Jamel i love the expression on your face watching elvis sing your feeling it. The king forever.

Elvis loved gospel music and grew up poor in the segregated area he played and grew up with the black community. Read about him
He basically lived on the 40% black street next to the 60% black street. Went to black churches and bought his clothes at black stores.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL Elvis is great
King's off the hook, man. Charisma, good looks, and talent in the Supreme ...
No auto-tune, out of breath at the end and words with meaning; I miss real music.

This song shows the real Elvis🧡Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺
Elvis was dynamite king Elvis forever what an amazing performance don’t get better than that 💙👑💙👑
The only Grammy awards Elvis ever won was 3 and all were for his 3 Gospel Albums. He's the only artist in the Gospel, Country and Rock-n-roll hall of fame.
And sold over 1 BILLION records worldwide!
I am not sure but I think Johnny Cash is also a member of those halls of fame. And including the songwriters hall of fame. . ELVIS PRESLEY - JOHNNY CASH = TWO BADASS HOMBRES.
"Only" 3 ?
LOL
Grammy's weren't around until 1958 I believe.
Elvis won a lifetime GRAMMY at the age of 36! Who else gets lifetime awards so young? Only the King We didn't know we would lose the King so young I am glad he got the lifetime GRAMMY award when he was among the living! To many people get awards after their gone. RIP KING GODS SPEED. I will miss you forever!
That the real Elvis Presley.
I remember back in 1968 when this show aired on TV. I was a 9 year old kid. I was one of the fortunate ones to get to see Elvis perform live in 1972 But I gotta tell ya when this man sings… his Heart and soul shines through his voice. So many young men have tried to copy him … close … But nope not quite. This sing is one of my all time favorites
🌟 ELVIS still is the KING 👑 of Rock and Roll ! 🌟
