An argument for not referencing specific pharoahs is that their names are really inconsistent, as they would usually rename themselves and try to erase the previous leader's legacy and claim it as their own. So even from a historical context Pharoah names get confusing

Don't know if you will read this but there is a set of podcasts called "40 minutes in the old testament" and "30 minutes in the new testament" they're Calvinist preachers but don't push it too hard. But they do a good breakdown of the Bible verse by verse. Similar to these podcasts.

The tower, I believe, was of an immense scale and height. So high that God literally said, "look, they surely will achieve what they seek to do". For a tower of such a height you would need a very large base so the huge plain they chose was ideal and suggests that the tower was very high. This culture had knowledge and technology passed on to them by fallen angels, they were way more advanced than people think.
I know this comment was posted a while ago but I'm wildly curious. What evidence states that the builders of the tower of Babel were given advanced technology by fallen angels? Anything to do with old testament angels or fallen angels fascinates me.

Though it is still referenced to in the Canon 66 book bible, which I guess lends some credibility? Definitely makes sense here.

Wendigoon, you gotta start plugging this podcast more in your channel's videos. I only came here because one of your latest videos, you mentioned this podcast. Since then, I've watched all posted (5) videos of the podcast and am looking forward to more. Also, side note, could we get a sort of version of the bible but it's just your descriptions of the stories? Stuff like: "and then the people decided to build a tower of Babel to fight God or something and God was all like, really? Guys I just flooded the earth not long ago, come on."
(basing this off 14:30) One thing to consider is that the Tower Of Babel was bigger than any other building in the land, so maybe 100-400 ft? But it's not something that we'll ever know, but it does bring an interesting conversation.

Spring of the moment thought: what if the tower of babel was immense and the construction of it brought people from all over, from different regions. The people of different regions may have decided to aid in the construction of this tower or been forced to. This could’ve happened over many decades we know that timing in the Bible is a little odd. So this one region where the building of the tower started had one language but because of the migration of so many different peoples there were more languages thus the building of the tower of babel literally confounded their language ("their" being the people of the region.).
I dont know what's funnier. Humans deciding that they could totally take God if they built a tower to get up to him or God seeming to not be entirely confident that they couldn't.

My favorite prophet is the last judge and the O.P (original prophet), Samuel. When Samuel is down because Isreal isn't listening to him, God reminds him he isn't a bad Prophet just because people don't listen. No no no. No, Joseph's brothers actually didn't sell him. They were going to kill him, chickened out for the love they had for their father. Threw him into a pit, went away to scheme. Ishmaelites (their cousins) came along, saw this kid in a pit & pulled him out, then sold him into slavery. The oldest (forgot him name) came back to check on him, saw he was gone then proceeded to ripped his clothes in a fit of remorse, THEN the rest of them agreed to fake Joseph's death. But yeah. Joseph's brothers didn't sell him.

1:47:45 I went to a Christian school when I was like 9-12 years old (not religious) and our “science” teacher believed dinosaurs didn’t exist and the earth was 7000 years old, many of the other kids and teachers agreed with him (I asked around), I know it’s not a common belief in every Christian but my experience makes me think that it’s still a large portion

When Wendigoon was telling the story about Nimrod and Bugs Bunny, I thought he was going to say the joke was about Elmer Fudds height bc he’s so short, and Nimrod was a giant, supposedly, before he said it was a rip on him being a great hunter. The latter does make a lot more sense.
Did the math on a few of those pre flood lifespans and if you replace years with months, assuming a bad/incorrect translation occurred at some point, it works out to be around 60-80 years old, which is pretty impressive but actually realistic for humans to accomplish. Would it cause massive inconsistencies with what characters are supposed to have done in their lifetimes if that was the case?

I like this podcast, very interesting. How are you able to believe these stories and the time-line that go with them as true when there are other myths like the story of gilgamesh and the confounding of tounges in way earlier religions from the Sumerians? It seems to me that the time-line wouldn't work anymore.
I think there’s a misconception about the origins of these religions. Archaeologists and historians will often say something dates to a certain time, but what we mean by that (unless otherwise specified) is typically that that is the earliest known version of something. So the Epic of Gilgamesh may date to ~2000 BC, but it’s also certainly older than that. Same goes for Judaism. Some of the oldest books date to the 6th century, but the stories are far older than that. Recent evidence suggests the Jews were worshipping YHWH at least as early as 1200 BC, and likely as early as 2000 BC. Thing is, it really can’t be any earlier than 2000 BC. YHWH speaks to Abraham in Haran, and that’s the beginning of Judaism.

Take the time and read about the Tower of Babel and then compare and contrast with account of Pentecost. Man building up to God vs. God coming down to man, confusion of tongues to the apostle speech being heard in native tongues.
I didn't look through all the comments to see if this was answered, but the reason to not wear linen and wool is because there's a whole thing of not mixing 2 things together. It's kind of like not having cheese or some kind of dairy with a hamburger. It's to avoid possibly cooking the young in the milk from the mother and to keep that as distant as possible, no dairy with red meat. Reason with the pork is because pigs were seen as unclean and they don't chew their cud. There's a whole thing about certain kind of hoofs for land animals and what Jews can eat from. But in the end it all comes down to not mixing things so as not to be wasteful, show disrespect to something that is created by the creator and all that fun stuff.
The tower of Babel (Akkadian lit. mean "Gateway of the Gods", given it was a ziggurat, there is no guess work needed, it is more accurately to say Nimrod attempted to established some kind of "Portal". In Gen is God say "let us go down and confuse..." the book of Jubilees which is referenced in the 66 Biblical Compilation of books we call the Bible (unless Catholic then there are more), says God took 70 of angels that was foremost/in front of them. Good idea would have been if you included Nimrod.
Interestingly, Catholic and Orthodox Bibles still have Macanese as well as the other apocryphal books. It wasn’t JUST the hand writing, Luther didn’t like that he couldn’t support some arguments with them there.
ik this is 2 years old - but i looked into the "Dogs come from horses" claim that sounds crazy, but Horses exist in the order Perrisodactyla which comprises of Equidae, Rhinoceratidae and Tapiridae. Perissodactyla's closest sister order (Is that the right terminology? Unsure) is Carnivora, the order in whic h the vast majortiy of carnivorous mammals come form which include dogs. Carnivora is newer that Perissodactyla by about 5 Mya. Therefore, dogs split off from a common ancestor to horses in the early Eocene, which could be interpreted as "Dogs come from horses." This is a drastic simplification, in reality horses and dogs came from a common ancestor 52 Mya, and not from each other. I can easily see how this could be misconstrued as "Dogs come from horses".
Through my years of observing folk, I have noticed that much can be discerned about a person from his manner of laughter and the sound of his laugh. As well as what prompts his laughter. This conversation provided me much to glean from to add to my collective knowledge and understanding; but it was also very Cringe to listen to due to the afore mentioned topic. Did the math on a few of those pre flood lifespans and if you replace years with months, assuming a bad/incorrect translation occurred at some point, it works out to be around 60-80 years old, which is pretty impressive but actually realistic for humans to accomplish.

In all earnest one of my uni teachers loved this subject and came back to it time and time again. There must be a mention somewhere in a Wikipedia article on Bible editions and Bible societies.
I like this podcast, very interesting. How are you able to believe these stories and the time-line that go with them as true when there are other myths like the story of gilgamesh and the confounding of tounges in way earlier religions from the Sumerians? It seems to me that the time-line wouldn't work anymore.
I think there’s a misconception about the origins of these religions. Archaeologists and historians will often say something dates to a certain time, but what we mean by that (unless otherwise specified) is typically that that is the earliest known version of something. So the Epic of Gilgamesh may date to ~2000 BC, but it’s also certainly older than that. Same goes for Judaism. Some of the oldest books date to the 6th century, but the stories are far older than that. Recent evidence suggests the Jews were worshipping YHWH at least as early as 1200 BC, and likely as early as 2000 BC.
Thing is, it really can’t be any earlier than 2000 BC. YHWH speaks to Abraham in Haran, and that’s the beginning of Judaism.

I think that the reason God stopped them was because they were disobeying His command to fill the earth. Also, they were trying to make a name for themselves, rather than let God make their name great.

I didn't look through all the comments to see if this was answered, but the reason to not wear linen and wool is because there's a whole thing of not mixing 2 things together. It's kind of like not having cheese or some kind of dairy with a hamburger. It's to avoid possibly cooking the young in the milk from the mother and to keep that as distant as possible, no dairy with red meat. Reason with the pork is because pigs were seen as unclean and they don't chew their cud. There's a whole thing about certain kind of hoofs for land animals and what Jews can eat from. But in the end it all comes down to not mixing things so as not to be wasteful, show disrespect to something that is created by the creator and all that fun stuff.

The tower of Babel (Akkadian lit. mean "Gateway of the Gods", given it was a ziggurat, there is no guess work needed, it is more accurately to say Nimrod attempted to established some kind of "Portal". Good idea would have been if you included Nimrod.

ik this is 2 years old - but i looked into the "Dogs come from horses" claim that sounds crazy, but Horses exist in the order Perrisodactyla which comprises of Equidae, Rhinoceratidae and Tapiridae. Perissodactyla's closest sister order (Is that the right terminology? Unsure) is Carnivora, the order in whic h the vast majortiy of carnivorous mammals come form which include dogs. Carnivora is newer that Perissodactyla by about 5 Mya. Therefore, dogs split off from a common ancestor to horses in the early Eocene, which could be interpreted as "Dogs come from horses." This is a drastic simplification, in reality horses and dogs came from a common ancestor 52 Mya, and not from each other. I can easily see how this could be misconstrued as "Dogs come from horses".
