I had an 88 GT.....It was typical 80's GM interiors......Cheap. Squeaky. Cracks everywhere. No room for much of anything. Very small trunk and no room in the interior. Going to the grocery store is problematic if you buy too many groceries. Terrible in the rain.....no traction. Never ever drive it in the snow.....impossible. Too much oversteer. Front end just slides out from under you when the rain or snow falls. I thought it was the tires....so I got new ones and it did not help at all. Handling in the dry was incredible. I did a V8 Archie engine swap. 450 HP and the Fiero becomes a monster. It can kill you if not careful. Parts are getting rare. My local auto parts store told me not to ask for parts for it any more...they just can't get them. Very few body parts available now. The sub frame makes for a great kit car base though. I ended up selling it because it was just too powerful and was too flighty at speeds over 120 and with the V8 in it, the tires did not last very long. It was a fun car for a while.
My 88 GT passed state inspection with flying colors. I have never had an issue with inspection in the 33.5 years that I have owned it. It has been a very reliable car. I purposely didn’t get T-tops when I ordered it.
I own an 87 GT. I feel about the same as you do. The parts after market started to dry up about 20 years ago. I've owned mine since 1997. Back then the parts after market was in full swing. Sadly I had to take it off the road back in 2000 because insurance in my area went through the roof and I put it in storage... It was there until Nov 2019.. I got it out and started getting work done on it. Parts were hard to find, some parts are impossible to get too! Long story short It was finished by Dec 2020... A full year! Then it had to back into storage for the winter. It's now April and it's time to get it back on the road!!
Your comment about being underpowered is def true. But I think it's even worse than you stated. 135 - 140HP on the 2.8 V6 if I recall correctly. Nice video. I have an 88 Formula.
I got 86GT wheels, with gray centers, 7" wide, all around on my 88 Formula CJB(in white!). Not much different in feel, and I have the 205r15/60 tires in front, 215r15/60 in rear.
The engine the 2.8 is rated at 140 horsepower not 160. have a gold 86 SE, essentially a GT without the fast back. Wouldn't complain about the power. They did come with the 2.5 iron duke 4 cilinder at 92 horsepower as standard so be glad you don't have that engine, although had the iron duke in my 85 Grand am, was kind of peppy with good torque.
Chevy is solely to blame for why the Fiero never had a V8 & also played a large part in killing the car in 88. The engine bay was designed from day 1 to accept the V8's in GMs inventory at the time. As you probably know Pontiac tried to build a 2 seat sports car since the 1960s & Chevy was always the reason it got shot down. It truly is amazing that Pontiac basically had to shove this car down the General's throat in order to get it built and sacrifices had to be made, one of which was no V8. I've owned an 87 GT for 12 years & absolutely love the car & the attention it gets.
@@tailsfromthejunkyard1023 It's only 5 grand, runs, but needs new paint. I'm going to try and keep it close to factory color if possible, and see if they can replicate the text on the bottom.
Dear Anthony: (neat car/video(s))!!! I was blessed to get the same: (88, GT, although red). There used to be a Fiero garage out in Cali'. I do not know if it is still open or not? I do know there is: The Fiero Store up in Connecticut. They are not half bad. Hope this helps! Please post any updates on any changes you make. I'd be most interested to compare notes. Thank you. Godspeed!
Excellent video sir! I have an 88 Formula w/ T-Tops as well - amazing car. Highly recommend West Coast Fiero for performance (including great coilover set ups!)
Great video, thanks for posting!👍 A friend of mine bought a new red SE 4 banger with a sunroof back in '83. Nice mid-engine 2 seater "sports" car. I know a few folks that race/raced these cars in SCCA. If you use a conditioner on them seals it will keep them from drying out, shrinking and cracking. If you have it insured and documented as a luxury vehicle, sometimes you can get away without having the emission test done, at least you can here in GA.
Hey bro, I love my 1988 Fiero GT t top. Actually If you compare the ttop to the f body, the air has nowhere to go so it just smacks you around. I sold it in 2012. I might get back into it though
Had a problem selling my 1978 Bronco without emissions on it. But that was way back in 2006, and I'm pretty sure the rules haven't changed since then in CA
Just picked up an 88 black GT with a 3800 supercharger...6 speed manual... absolutely love it...had an 84 in 88✌️
Nice!

Take us on a drive! Love the Fiero GT
I think every Fiero owner had a Countach poster as a kid in their bedroom.
yup, I feel for ya about the parts! THNX!

Awesome what color is it? I’m really glad you still have it.
Hi, are parts available for these cars? For maintenance
@@djpollo2474 yes Most mechanical parts can be purchased At over the counter parts stores, But there is also a dedicated Fiero store online
@@tailsfromthejunkyard1023 thx bro, there's one selling here and I'm scared that there would be no parts, thank you so much
@@djpollo2474 no worries man some parts are a little harder to get nowadays but most of the things are fairly common

I'm actually trying to purchase an 88 Fiero Formula. I know they aren't super fast, but the V6 Fiero is easily quick enough for normal driving.
Honestly they are very good cars and they handle wonderfully. If you can get it I definitely recommend it

GM management killed the Fiero because they thought the planned improvements would put it in competition with the Corvette
Are maintenance parts available for these cars? The v6 to be more specific?
Yes
Parts are even worse for 88s specifically. Only year with that suspension and shared with NO ONE.
