    Omg! Thanks for the tip on(Stop playn a little bit of Everythn and focus on one thing). This is exactly what I needed to hear in my intermediate drum world. Thanks

    This is massive. For a long time, I thought I just had really bad internal timing (which is the one thing you cannot have as a drummer). Turned out I needed to clean up on unisons between all the limbs, and as soon as I could hear the clear "note", I could tell if I was rushing/dragging. People I played with also were telling me "dude, we sounded great today!", since they had a strong pulse to anchor their playing. Easily the biggest return on investment practice wise that there is.

      Also have to add (since it's a passionate topic for me) that one of the best exercises that immediately cleans up your playing is doing the 8th notes in unison to a click. Then pull out the 8th note on one hand. Then once it feels tight again, pull out the 7th note on the same hand, and so on. The thing that it really teaches you is not just to land on the surface at the same time, but to how to start and stop that rate of playing consistently. It's pretty much a cheat code to playing super clean.

      @@cartoune Doing 8th notes and then you pull out the 8th note with one hand? Sorry I'm not getting it, can you describe it another way?

      @ for sure! Something like this:
      L - x x x x x x x | x x x x x x x |
      R - x x x x x x x x | x x x x x x x x |
      Then when that feels good, you do 6 on the left and 8 on the right, so on. You can then do the same between hands and feet. And when that’s good, try between different drums/cymbals.

    Brilliant! This is exactly what I've been hoping for. Recently trying to really focus on stick control I've been looking for an outside source to implement and focus on in my practice. This is it. As I watched I practiced the first exercise and a before long I recognized exactly what my issue is with my left hand.
    Thanks for what you do!!

    Hello Dimitri, thanks so much for this tips. You use on your snare some kind of cloth damper...sounds good over here. What is it and can you buy it regularly? Thanks again!!

    Just a small question, but do you think a taiko drum (controller for the game taiko no tatsujin) can be good for practicing drumming?

    • @DimitriFantini
      @DimitriFantini  Місяць тому

      it’s a good question but I’m not familiar with that unit! regardless… any drum is good! drumming doesn’t have to be with modern drumsticks on a modern drumset to be valid.
