Old world skills are fascinating to me. For many years I worked with clay and made all my dishes cups teapots bowls etc. There is something so satisfying about making something rather than buying it. Makes me feel connected to peoples from time long ago, when everyone made what they needed and did not have a local store to pop down to to buy things.
thanks for the tutorial. I might stick to buying only because it looks so time consuming lol. To all those people making comments on the grammar and typos...I think you should go get a life or say something constructive instead. The uploader is sharing her time and knowledge with us and all you can pick on is the language? Sheesh
Is informing someone of the typos in their work not considered constructive? I mean it’s all fun and games until some poor fool pours “soup” onto his slippers instead of soap… 1:54 😅
Nice! I just felted slippers with my 7th grade (am waldorf handwork teacher too) with varried results, and I think I will incorporate this way to felt.
well done! two questions: when you take out the templet and start rolling them for fulling, doesn´t the insides felt together? 2nd. about what´s the shrinkesh % should you calculate doble your shoe size?
Very good video! It was informative and gave some inside tips and ideas to try at home. Thank you! It seems like an intensive process but the results are wonderful!
Great video and if I wasn't allergic to wool, I would definitely make a pair. I'll bet they keep your feet nice and warm and not sweaty like synthetic fibers and fabrics do. I make cute slipper and slipper boots with all cotton fabric and cotton batt.
Are you allergic to all wool or just sheep? You may find other animals less objectionable....I am felting hair from our "hypoallergenic" dogs that does not bother people allergic to dogs.....
Well done on a great informative video :D Much appreciated by a fellow-felter and please ignore silly comments about spelling ...I have to work in my 2nd language and you did great ! Thank you again !!
What is the relationship between the number of wool layers and final felt thickness and density? I've never made felt and want to make some to replace the dampers on my harpsichord jacks. Thanks for the video!
after the wet slippers go on the form and dry ,,,do u wash the soap out and put them back on the form...Ive seen these hand made slippers once and they were very thick and comfy looking.
I love this video! I am wondering how big you make the template. Is there a ratio on the size of the template versus the size of the slipper you are trying to make?
maybe because, if you're trying to LEARN something, this shows what it looks like at each step. the felt changes as it progresses and to skip steps can confuse some. besides.. theres a slider at the bottom if you're so bored, slide it and skip parts you think don't matter.
Can the bubble wrap stay inside the shoe until the very end so that the wool does not become matted during the bamboo rolling process? By the way I love this tutorial
Thank you for sharing this video! I'm ready to make my first pair of felted wool slippers. But I am not able to find where to get the shoe lasts - would you mind telling me where I can get them? Thanks in advance!
Many thanks for sharing your skills with us. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to spend making one pair of slippers. I guess the slippers will come apart if one washes them.
Wish I could see if there were answers to how much wool, and where to get the foot forms. I'd really like to try this. My feet freeze in the winter. And I can only assume you rinse the slippers when your done in cool water and air dry? Nice job and thank you!
try amazon.com that's were I found some. I didn't rinse the slippers, just let them dry they seem to be fine. I am going to try and sew some sued on the bottoms for a little extra strength against wear. I was worried they were going to be too big but they work down quite a bit smaller by the time your done with them. I actually think I will make them thicker next time. I would think you can use as much as you want as far as wool goes.
+Aurora Green , probably as big as your foot. Trace your foot. I haven't made them yet, just guessing. The template won't shrink, but the wool will around it, then you' ll be adding more wool to cover the edges it shrank away from.
+Jan Coldwater , yes wash the soap out then let them dry on those feet forms if you have them. Or put them on your feet, carefully take them off and let them dry in that shape.
I googled "plastic shoe last" and found them here: www.etsy.com/market/plastic_shoe_last There is also a company in Brooklyn that sells to the shoe industry that has them.
See, now that is just funny. I followed links to your cat house page on Etsy to see your products, wondering what all sorts of things do you make with the felting wool. Read that you are a commercial artist, with a fine art background. I am also a commercial artist/graphic designer with a fine art background. Small world. What kind of fine art do you do, besides the shoes and cat caves? If I may ask and am not being too curious.
second, beautiful creation are wool balls. very like to make them. very healthy - because massaging hands by all points. and wool balls look wonderful: good for cats and dogs, also for kids and childrens as sensory toy, and for decoration.

And English may not even be her first language. :-)
Is informing someone of the typos in their work not considered constructive? I mean it’s all fun and games until some poor fool pours “soup” onto his slippers instead of soap… 1:54 😅
it takes me 8 hours at least to knit slippers to felt. this is an amazing shortcut for me!
Nice! I just felted slippers with my 7th grade (am waldorf handwork teacher too) with varried results, and I think I will incorporate this way to felt.
well done! two questions: when you take out the templet and start rolling them for fulling, doesn´t the insides felt together?

This is lovely! Thank you very much, I can't wait to try this!

Great video and if I wasn't allergic to wool, I would definitely make a pair. I'll bet they keep your feet nice and warm and not sweaty like synthetic fibers and fabrics do. I make cute slipper and slipper boots with all cotton fabric and cotton batt.

where I can to buy a lasts. I looking for it 3 days 😕
Many thanks for sharing your skills with us.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to spend making one pair of slippers.
I guess the slippers will come apart if one washes them.
They shouldn't do if you've felted them properly.
What happens to all that soap? It stays in the finished product?
Wish I could see if there were answers to how much wool, and where to get the foot forms. I'd really like to try this. My feet freeze in the winter. And I can only assume you rinse the slippers when your done in cool water and air dry? Nice job and thank you!

4 oz wool per foot
rinse in vinegar water and air dry
So you end up with soapy slippers? I don't get it
Thank you...Thank you...THANK YOUUU!!!
How do you work out how much they will shrink and how much bigger the resit should be made?
i stop making the felted shoes
@@kivikis I'm confused
how do you get the soap out?. i did not see you rinse! i must try these thank you for sharing
I think the soap comes out during the bamboo rolling
Clearly the soap stays in! yuck!
You rinse it :) she most likely did rinse it but it didnt show
Elle Drake
Why are you saying yuck to soap? We wash our hands with soap and use soap to stay hygienic
Thanks for sharing what you know. Your instructions are nice and clear.
questions: How big should the template be for sizing? Doe you use Shoe Lasts for the final sizing?
+Aurora Green , probably as big as your foot. Trace your foot. I haven't made them yet, just guessing. The template won't shrink, but the wool will around it, then you' ll be adding more wool to cover the edges it shrank away from.
+PoodleParti they shrink like crazy, did you watch the video?
Do you ever wash the soap out? What type of bar soap? Do you put them in the dryer on a wrack to dry, or do you air dry?
+Jan Coldwater , yes wash the soap out then let them dry on those feet forms if you have them. Or put them on your feet, carefully take them off and let them dry in that shape.
Love it, rub with soup ahaha;D great tutorial btw
Thank you!!
How many oz of wool is needed for a size 8 1/2 slipper?

Can you use polyester fiber in place of Felt?
No
