Dude, you're the type of guy that when a customer is lucky to have you work on their bike, they should never let anyone else touch it. Awesome job. Great attention to detail and a perfectionist mind. Love it. Keep'em coming!
You’re obviously a man who cares about his work. Anyone would be lucky to have you work on their bike. I don’t know if you do this when your cleaning parts, but you wouldn’t believe how much dirt I have removed from the center of the wrist pin. I push a brake clean soaked rag through the center and they always come out filthy. Keep up the great work!
A video from Brad, made my evening. Great to see you back and I sure hope you start getting your million subs you deserve as you put out the best most detailed videos.
Awesome video one tip that has saved me headaches is to cover under the piston with a towel before attempting to put the wrist pin circlip on. Sometimes they pop out trying to get them in and can easily fall in the crankcase.
This channel is brilliant! I love the commentary and learning a ton just by watching. I wish all mechanics did this while working on my bike so I can be there to watch.
Thanks for the great video . After watching the care to detail you take , I am nervous about letting a mechanic do one of these kits , not knowing if he would be as conscientious as you are . If I decide to do one , your the man . I live in Central Michigan . 👍
Great job on the assembly! You would make a great instructor. Brilliant way to prove the install was done correctly, so that Harley would warranty the kit. I noticed that you also maintained the rpm below 2500 during the break in period to further guarantee your professionalism, and to prove your work. I’m a novice. Great video!
Curious what is the break in period I'm getting a 131 installed then going from MA to Kentucky. Do you think it will be ok? I should mention I am on a 2021 Low rider S.
Conventional theory says to use the brake in procedure in your owners manuals, like vary engine speeds and avoid prolonged constant speed, like express way riding. And that's probably the best thing to do. The shop may have a process of heat cycling the engine 3 times and loading it so the rings seat well. If so it be just fine le that also. At different shop that's how we did it for decades and never once did we have a problem.
Man I wish I lived closer so you could work on my 2000 Roadking. If you were working on her, I would have no worries. Great job and great attention to detail. You have a gift and I enjoy watching you work. All the best brother!

Awesome work and technique but one thing that I did not like is right before you lift the cylinders to far I would think it imperative to stuff rags in the upper crank case in case of loose debris or more importantly a broken ring fragment could have fallen in the crankcase unknowingly or even seen still could be a nightmare.

Great video,I’m impressed with your assembling and detailed pre lubrication.I’m getting the same kit installed in my 2020 Cvo limited. To break it in I’m leaving the stock exhaust on along with the stock air filter, but using H-D auto tuner with wide range oxygen sensors. After break in, I’ll decide what mufflers to install.

I'm used to doing 3 heat cycles and that's the way I've always done it with no problems. The new dealership I work at does 1000 miles just like the owners manual states. Either way is fine to me.
Wizard I want to do this kit on a 2021 M8 114. Do you suggest a significant benefit from the aftermarket cam plate and pumps ? I have read they claim significant cooler oil temps. You are an excellent tech.
Brad, thank you for the new video. I am always so impressed with the quality of your workmanship. The question is, I gather this kit can be installed without any upgrade to the crankshaft and pushrods of the stock motor - a 114 I suspect? Does a complete crate 131 motor also use the same "bottom end" of the 114? Thanks
Yes. This 131 kit is installed on a stock 114 bottom end, flywheel, pushrods ect. And yes when you buy a 131 crate motor it comes with the exact " same as stock 114 " normal crank cases, flywheel, pushrod ect. Thanks for the complement!
Have you ever done a big bore on a Slim w/ laced wheels? I'm thinking of going w/ a 124" or 128" kit this winter on my 2018 Slim. I'd like to know if the laced wheels will hold up though. Or should I go to cast wheels? I don't do wheelies or burnouts. Thanks
Laced wheels will hold up to alot of power. U just have to keep the spokes tight and u won't have any problems. I haven't done a big kit on a slim but I've done huge kit on older touring bikes when they came with laced wheels and have had no problems. Do the 128 kit tho.
Hats off to Brad for allowing me to speak a word of truth that we all know they are asleep at Harley design team is sleeping on the job. By the way Brad you should not shout in your intro with all those capital letters is not working for your work effort should be directed to re do on the video, i did not learn nothing about building a motor.
Hello, love the video, very meticulously details🙏🏼 I want to ask u if I want to upgrade my 2022 RKS 114 to stage 4. Do I need to upgrade my standard clutch into the high capacity clutch kit for M8? Also the oil into SC high volume oil pump & cam support plate kit? Much appreciated 🙏🏼
The screaming eagle kits use your stock clutch. Even with the 131 stage 4 kit your stick clutch will hold it. U can use the OEM cam support plate and oil pump that's in the bike now. We do alot of them that way and they work well. If you want higher end stuff, screaming eagle sells a higher end canplate and oil pump that would work well with it or a S&S or Fueling stuff are nice but not required.
Ahhh.. I see its your first time doing this upgrade... haha.. Wow what an amazing TECH! honestly, as a tech(Generators) you can see how you understand the engine, the service repair manual, and how to adjust to the differences! I would trust you to repair any of my bikes! I wasnt even looking to do this upgrade but i was stuck watching how amazing you are at your job lol. Great work brother. Keep doing this! I hope you do well!
Hi Brad maybe you could help. I have an S&S 128 kit on my 2020 RGS and while dyno tuning I’m finding the RDRS or something like traction control stepping in. How did you get around this? I already changed the RPM with the FP3 and removed the speed limiter
Nice content again ! One question though : Do you have to remove everything to swap lower rocker box covers ? Or can you slide them out ? (I'm taliking about a Softail 114 bur I assume it is pretty much the same as a Touring) Thank you Sir !
Do you leave the stock "plastic" lifter cuffs in when doing this? What is your opinion of Screaming Eagle parts and the expected longevity of the motor when using these parts as opposed to something like S&S parts that are often manufactured under different manufacturing standards? Also do you ever run into problems with the stock transmission assy when increasing the torque with these stage IV kits? The reason I ask is I have seen a couple of videos where the customer with a big smile on his face starts slamming thru the gears with the new build and blows up the transmission or snapping the rear drive belt while pulling the front wheel up off the ground.
Alot of times I reuse the plastic lifter cuffs, its really only if the s&s metal cuffs were up sold at the time of purchase or if the customer specifically asks for them. I haven't seen 1 problem with the plastic lifter cuffs so reusing them isn't a problem for me. Sportsters have had a plastic lifter cuff since 04 and LS chevy engines have plastic lifter cuffs so that's how I think about them. But with either option, metal or plastic I havent seen A single cuff related problem come across my bench. As for how I feel about s&s engine kits vs screaming eagle engine kits is a tough question because 95% of engine kits we install / work on are screaming eagle and so percentage wise I see many less s&s equipped bikes and also less s&s failures. I'm not super fond of screaming eagle "bigger bore" cylinders that's 117 twin cam engines I'd stay away from. And the same cylinder technology is used in the M8 screaming eagle 128/131 kit. But they seem to do much better. If it were me spending the cash I'd use s&s thicker wall cylinders + pistons and I like how s&s makes there cams and cams plates and oil pumps better so I'd buy the s&s stuff. But I see the other side of the coin too. Where a customer wants to keep warranty and possability buy extended service protection and that bacically means screaming eagle stuff for them. And the screaming eagle stuff is cheaper upfront so people like that. Situation dependent. I used to see a lot more trans problems and I don't know if m8 transmissions have gotten better but I rarely see a messed up 3rd gear like we used to. If a belt is tensioned right or tighter for a higher performance engine they can be super reliable and problem free so it all depends on how you use it. I've seen more broken belts on trikes from people admitting to popping/riding wheelies vs broken belts from power.
Thank you for your video, but you never put rags/towels in the open spigots of the cases while working. Iam curious as your reason not too. Not trying to nitpick, as yours is the best video I've seen. You showing all your specialty tools is a bonus. Again, THANK YOU for taking the time and effort to explain your steps. I've made a few videos for the forums and I know first hand, what a pain it is to stop and show steps your taking
Will doing a big bore kit cause crank runout to worsen faster than a stock motor? Are there any specific actions that cause crank runout to get worse quicker? Everyone I see doing a big inch build has recommended balancing, truing, pinning, and welding the flywheel.
Balancing, truing, pinning, and welding the flywheel is mostly for peace of mind. If you want the best of the best, highest quality stuff and cost is not a problem it's available. Shock loading is the main reason flywheels shift and have runout out problems. The only times i've seen flywheels shift is when something in the transmission or primary breaks and the engine stops rotating instantly form a mid or high rpm. I like the highest quality stuff so I like using balanced and trued flywheels but in a dealership environment we normally don't do full out, no expense spared builds. But if the engine cases are split, you might as well send the flywheel out and have it worked, you'll be happy you did later. Even if its just for peace of mind.
Hi Brad, awesome video. I have a question about ring gap in these kits. You diddnt gap the rings? Are the on point from factory in your experience? Thanks
I double check them. But they are already set from the factory. They shouldn't need to be filed unless something got past quality control. I have never needed to gap a set of oe or screaming eagle piston rings. But I check every one.
So do you have before and after dyno numbers? Did he have a tuner in that beauty as well? If so, which one. And can you for future for us turn key riders let us know what type of cam is going to ng in. Torque or HP. Thanks bro enjoy your videos.
What Tapered Ring Compressor would I need if I’m putting a 110 kit in my twin cam and what one if I’m just putting my twin cam back with stock rings? Thank.
I wish I had someone around me that i can trust not to take short cuts. I'm going to look for a tech that makes youtube videos now so I can watch your skill.
Amazing video Brad! What a cool video. Did that take you only one day? I have a 2015 Ultra Limited with the S.E. 110. Going to keep it and get a 2023 Street Glide ST and bump up to 131. Wonder if I'll feel the power difference? :). I hope all HD mechanics have the same skill sets and attn to detail
I think this video took me 2 days to record. You'll notice a difference in power going from your twin cam yo a milwaukee a for sure. And it's another noticeable bump in power when you do the 131.
@@HarleyDavidsonWizard Hey Brad, I have another question for you. Wondering what would you do? If you bought a new Street Glide, would you do the 131 stage 4 or consider the all new 135 replacement? I really wish you were in the Milwaukee area. Will you be coming by for the 120th? Lots to do here in Milwaukee this July
If you cut the pushrods out, like if you did a stage 2 cam kit, then you dont need to drain the coolant to get the cam or oil pump out. But if you are removing the rocker boxes then you need to drain the coolant.
Brad 17 Road king, what must be hooked up in order to run the starter over to circulate the oil? Dash etc.. Im doing a 124 kit, my battery is dead so Im charging it but just wonder what all needs plugged in to run it over to prime it. THanks
What I do is I use a small jumper wire to connect the small wire on the starter to the positive battery post and the starter will immediately crank, so make sure the bikes in neutral first. It's also beneficial to have 2 spark plugs out while cranking. Like I just strip some spare 18 gauge wire and stick it into the back of the small starter terminal, it's easy.
Brad The starter trick worked great but still wouldnt pump oil. I ended up having to put some air PSI to the oil tank. It must have been air locked and not able to suck oil. So I blocked off the oil return from the oil distribution block so the oil pan would hold a little bit of pressure even thought it's still vented I think. It was enough to get it to go thank God. THanks for your help, Hope you make more videos. Little O
Yes, the 107 to the 128 kit is exactly the same as the 131 kit just the piston wrist pins are in slightly different locations. i did a video on the 128 a while back if your interested ua-cam.com/video/Lx4RDUMnU_c/v-deo.html
Recommended ring end gap clearance? Does 0.004" per inch of piston bore sound right? I opted for the 131 kit when I bought my 2020 RG Limited and that's what the tech went with.
Here are the specs from the 131/128 piston instruction for inches. (Fit in cylinder 0.0007-0.0020) (Ring end gap Top compression 0.013-0.021) (Ring end gap 2nd compression 0.018-0.025) (Ring end gap Oil control ring 0.0006-0.024)
@@HarleyDavidsonWizard thank you Brad. Great videos so thank you. I wanted to do 124” kits to my two Twin Cams but I got a decent trade in on both for the billiard red/vivid black Limited. Upgrading to the 131 kit was crazy but man it’s fun. Oh hey, I’ve been wondering who to ask about this, I’d like to get your input. Never test rode the bike before the kit install so I don’t have a comparison to go with. They ordered the bike and kit while I was getting the second trade in. I went with the V&H slip Ons, OS 450 and maybe I’m just old but it’s sometimes louder than I’d like. Curious about putting the stock cans back on. Dyno sheet shows 132 hours and 144 tq but I know I’d lose some top end and supposedly gain more bottom end torque. The tune might be a bit rich if I go back to stock so I’m thinking I might need to retune if I go backwards. Yeah, why did I spend all that money for performance and then put a cork in the exhaust. Just thinking it would be cool to have great performance but not be so loud. It’s not terrible and a full face helmet helps a bit. One of my trade in’s had Rinehart true duals with 3.5 cans and it was just annoying as heck. Mind speak I guess...shut up old man. Lol thanks and enjoy your day. Trask turbo then deal with it after that. Haaaa
Watched this again and fell asleep, so enjoyable to relax too especially on the ride. Wound up going overseas again and miss riding my sled. Your video brought me peace, I could watch hours of riding like this. Thanks.
Thanks to everyone for all the thumbs up and the support on my comments, but i am serious, i want the job as CEO of Harley, I want to build some f big a custom motorcycles.
my first job at harley is to make sure the round table meeting means at least 10 exectives are going to be needing a new job, no more pansy a employee's setting on the payrole doing nothing.
How much did this kit change vibration dampening ? years ago a friend of mine put an aftermarket stroker kit on his softtail and it made it very unpleasant to ride
I have one question....typically does oil flow to the oil filter from the oil pump to the inside of the filter outwards?...or from the pump to the outside of the filter returning from the inside?
Ya. Oil flows from the pump, past the oil pressure switch into the oil filter. It enters the outside of the filter, flows through the filter media and exits the filter through the center of the filter and flows through the cam plate and rest of the engine.
@@HarleyDavidsonWizard You have no idea how thankful I am. Great work you are doing!! Your videos are helping people tremendously. I will have your video playing along as I do my 131 kit. Once again, thank you!!!
I dont get why an individual would spend the money on a kit like that and not do the cam plate upgrade along with it.....strange. I love that color and decal on that bike....
What header pipe is good to install that can accommodate the big M18 O2 sensor for a Smart Auto Tuner or equivalent? I ask because I have heard the one that comes with the kit won't fit the M18 O2 sensors. Do you get more power with something like a V&H power duals or that factory hi-flow that comes with the kit? Will it void my warranty or ESP going with a non Harley header pipe?
Hello Brad my friend we miss your videos I have just bought a shovelhead I love harleys I have three now but you can't have enough harleys it's on my UA-cam channel be pleased if you had a look take care you gotta love harleys regards Alan.
I noticed that the axles of rockers are screwed in head base, thats mean not noise as we have to use lockers rockers in oldest model, what is your opinion?
I think rocker lockers are not necessary but also dont hurt. I feel like from a visual standpoint the twin cam had a more robust and solid rocker arm mount situation but with that being said I also haven't seen or broken any milwaukee 8 rocker arm mounts so it must be engineered well.

@@HarleyDavidsonWizard thank you!
Your welcome.
Thanks for the compliment! 👍
Way to treat the customers bike with respect also! Most ppl would b like F it and hammer it
Great day for a ride. Arsenal seems like a nice area!
Ya Waterford is nice with all the lakes ect.
Thanks for sharing. Do the piston rings come already filed or they have to be filed?
I double check every kit but i haven't ever needed to file any of the screaming eagle kit piston rings.
Makes me wonder why those plastic lifter cuffs weren't replaced and the cam plate and oil pump weren't up graded.
Great work sir! I really dig your double, and tripple check on your stage of completion. Im exactly the same way. LOL
Thanks!
The owner of this bike is a lucky man, you're the AMG of harley.
Thanks.
Brad, great video, I have a 2014 Screaming Eagle with a 110., Can I upgrade to a 131? How long of a job is this? Again thanks for the video.
typically the biggest you can go without making changes to the flywheel or crankcase is 117
Good video Brad I Measure install depth on all m8 cam bearings
Hi Brad maybe you could help. I have an S&S 128 kit on my 2020 RGS and while dyno tuning I’m finding the RDRS or something like traction control stepping in. How did you get around this? I already changed the RPM with the FP3 and removed the speed limiter
I honestly haven't tuned a bike with RDRS yet.
Nice content again !
One question though :
Do you have to remove everything to swap lower rocker box covers ?
Or can you slide them out ?
(I'm taliking about a Softail 114 bur I assume it is pretty much the same as a Touring)
Thank you Sir !
U have to remove the rocker arms. So its a bit of a job.
Thanks for this video. On average how long does it take you to complete the install?
Depends on some variables but even after doing alot of them it still takes me at least 8ish hours.
Great video and commentary. Thanks!
Hi Brad the wizard, how long does it take to install a kit like that?
Great video!
Thanks in advance, Ellom Red
it usually takes a day or 2
Every time you goose it I giggle a little. Ps every monster of a motorcycle should have a cup holder.
I like having water after I stomp on other bikes...lol
@@jmdminiaturehorse63 haha.
Thanks Brad✌
So do you have before and after dyno numbers? Did he have a tuner in that beauty as well? If so, which one. And can you for future for us turn key riders let us know what type of cam is going to ng in. Torque or HP. Thanks bro enjoy your videos.
Great video my question is why not go with the wideband O2 sensors
It's the way the customer wanted to do it.
Excellent video Brad really appreciate your attention to detail keep em coming!
Good job! Pretty labor intense. Curious to see a swap out with a 131 crate motor. Have you done many?
I havent down a 131 crate yet. Only the upgrade kits.
Great video. Brad is super-meticulous! :)
What Tapered Ring Compressor would I need if I’m putting a 110 kit in my twin cam and what one if I’m just putting my twin cam back with stock rings? Thank.
I'm not sure of the stock 110 bore size off hand. But i normally do 110 piston rings with my thumb nail.
was it idling high at first?
I wish I had someone around me that i can trust not to take short cuts. I'm going to look for a tech that makes youtube videos now so I can watch your skill.
Great job what were the dyno numbers?
I dont recall sorry
Any difference in changing out the oil pump if you have a wethead vs oil cooled during just a cam change?
This bike already had the most "up to date" oil pump in it. If it had an earlier generation I would recommend to upgrade it for sure.
Brad The Wizard but you wouldn’t have to drain the coolant would you? If changing out the pump?
If you cut the pushrods out, like if you did a stage 2 cam kit, then you dont need to drain the coolant to get the cam or oil pump out. But if you are removing the rocker boxes then you need to drain the coolant.
Brad The Wizard thx for the info. So far you have the most in depth videos if seen by far and you explain things in layman’s terms. Great work.
Brad
17 Road king, what must be hooked up in order to run the starter over to circulate the oil?
@@HarleyDavidsonWizard Thanks so much, will do.
Brad
The starter trick worked great but still wouldnt pump oil.
Little O
Put a set of tabs on that with zombie baffles it sounds like a sewing machine
Great video. And that was a very thorough install. Where are you located? I’d have to stop by sometime with an appointment
I work out of Motor City in Farmington Hills Michigan.
Great video. Is the 107 to 128 similar?
Thanks.
That's good. Thanks!
Great video. Thank you
How much did this kit change vibration dampening ? years ago a friend of mine put an aftermarket stroker kit on his softtail and it made it very unpleasant to ride
From a vibration standpoint theres like no additional vibration. Only alittle additional thump thump at idle. But off idle super smooth.
I noticed that the tach/speedo go spin when you turned the biked on, is that on all M8 bikes?
Ya. They all do that.
Will s&s 475 cam work better instead of cam in kit
Please help! What are the sizes for the two sockets you covered? ACR and Head Temp Sensor. Trying to make my own since I can’t seem to find them.
The head temp is 13mm I think & can't rember the ACR off hand. But I'll check in the morning and let you know.
@@HarleyDavidsonWizard great! Thank you very much!!
@Manny USMC The ACRs are 13/16 and the Head Temp Senser is indeed 13mm. I just measured them.
He specifically gave the disclaimer, “This is how I do things. You may do it differently.”
I recommend the D&D fatcat always,
Hello Brad my friend we miss your videos I have just bought a shovelhead I love harleys I have three now but you can't have enough harleys it's on my UA-cam channel be pleased if you had a look take care you gotta love harleys regards Alan.
Phenomenal Video! Thank you
I noticed that the axles of rockers are screwed in head base, thats mean not noise as we have to use lockers rockers in oldest model, what is your opinion?
I think rocker lockers are not necessary but also dont hurt. I feel like from a visual standpoint the twin cam had a more robust and solid rocker arm mount situation but with that being said I also haven't seen or broken any milwaukee 8 rocker arm mounts so it must be engineered well.
Can the bike be on the dyno before any type of breakin? Do you still have to keep it under 3000 RPM for breakin?
@16.20 why not just put the cylinder you want to remove the rockers at top dead center? Seems like the same thing just easier to remember
yep. Its the same thing. Top dead center compression stroke.
