The Extasie by John Donne in Tamil / Bharath Ravindran / Bharath Academy. Extasy is a trance like state in which the soul leaves the body and hold communications with the Divine. In this poem also the souls of the lovers and the beloved come out of the body to rise to a state of bliss. There are both sexual and spiritual elements in love. It was ecstasy which made them clear about the mystery of love. As a result, they realised that love is a thing of the soul not of the body. Each individual soul is a mixture of a number of different elements like sensation, desire, reason, intellect etc. The sensual or fleshy element is predominate in love. Love mixes the separate souls together and the resulting one soul is different from each separate soul. This is the result of ecstasy. the new soul is free from baser elements.
