If I would have know showing a crappy weld would drive subscribers like this, I'd have done it a year ago!

Where did you get the AR400 and the brass wear plate?
Welds look good to me! I made my box wedge from 3/4" mild steel welded to a 1" vertical wedge for the top portion of the box and I welded a chipper blade to the leading edge. All the welds held fine, I just laid down 3 heavy mig beads, but the 3/4" steel top wedge broke, but not at the weld though. Now I have to make a new box wedge. Thinking I should use something other than mild steel. Thanks again for sharing.

Good morning, Rich. I got the AR 400 from a local place call Alro Steel. The metal outlet stores sell directly to the public. The aluminum bronze came from Weiland National Bronze. Both of these components were somewhat spendy. There is a process for welding the AR400. I used Low Hydrogen rod (7018) or maybe MIG would work, I didn't try it because I don't have Spray Arc capability. Per Greg from making mistakes with Greg UA-cam channel, I pre-heated the area around the weldment to 250-260° and allowed it to cool under a couple pairs of welding gloves, welding jacket and a cheap Harbor Freight moving blanket. I hope it holds together! Again, thanks for watching! BTW, Your processor setup is pretty cool!

Hi Kevin, Thanks for getting back to me. Cant believe it, I found a local supplier that caries AR400. Thanks to inspiration from your build I might try building the new box wedge with AR400. Hope the old Bridgeport is up to it, going to need a carbide cutter. Cool, you saw the processor setup. It works incredibly well for me. The key is the box wedge, once it split and hits the rack it's gone, the top portion just sits on top of the box , so easy to pull back for the next split. I don't even need to use a pull back arm. @@bioniclife

It's been like a sauna around here lately. PPE to weld keeps me from getting too many burns (an occasional spark gets through), but it definitely doesn't help a person stay cool!👍

Keep chipping away at it. Before you know it, you will be burning the wood you split with your homemade splitter.

Thanks, Doug! I think I spend more time transferring footage, editing, and rendering then uploading, than I do working with steel!
