There have been many great songs written,by many great songwriters. This is one of the great, great songs. I cried like a baby the first time I heard it,very few songs bring on such emotion. Gretchen Peters, You are the pinnacle of songwriting, this is the greatest song I have ever heard! I truly mean it! Thank you so much for your talent!
I lost both my parents in a span of 88 days at the beginning of this year. This song is so touching and expresses feelings I've been unable to articulate ... loss, abandonment, uncertainty and fear of the future, and a desire to celebrate two wonderful people -- WWII veteran, a wonderful homemaker, and a marriage of 68 years. You are a beautiful soul for writing and performing this absolutely wonderful, hauntingly beautiful piece of music.
I don't even know how to put into words how I feel about this song. I stumbled across Gretchen peters by accident and the 3 songs I have listened to so far have spoke to me and got even better each and everyone I listened to. Especially this one. I only wish I found this music years ago. Thank you so very much for bringing this music into existence.
I think this is my favorite song Gretchen has written...I do believe it is the most beautifully written, about life, living, and impending death....awesome.....come on down and join the Jubilee.....
There are many talented young artists making music these days, and some of them are on my You Tube "Favorites" list. But Gretchen Peters is an artist who speaks directly to the AARP generation of which I am a card-carrying member. Thanks, Gretchen...
Tears are running down my face.......I felt this song in my heart....that's what Music is supposed to be able to accomplish......beautiful and moving....
I lost my Father a year ago next week. Listening brings his memory...this song captures perfectly the days and hours leading to a peaceful passing as he had in his home, surrounded by family for "his" Jubilee. I still see his arms reaching for the sky, grasping for what to him must have been the known. Thank you Gretchen for creating such a beautiful song for an expiriance each of us must face..
Interview Excerpt: "I had a long and interesting chat with writer Malcolm Wyatt recently; we talked about Dancing With The Beast, politics, Nashville, vinyl records and lots of other things. An excerpt: “I listen for characters, I listen for voices, I listen for titles, and the voices that were the loudest in my head when I was writing these songs were these girls and women, so those were the stories I chose to write. But when I look back on it, I’ve been doing that for 25 to 30 years, going back to Independence Day and probably going back further… those characters inspire me. They’re heroic. These women I’ve written about, some of them almost feel like my best friends, my guardian angels. They’re heroic in very quiet, almost stoic ways, but they capture my imagination. That’s why they stay in my head and that’s why their songs get written.” " more: www.gretchenpeters.com/2018/05/alternative-nashville-skyline-back-in-touch-with-gretchen-peters-interview/
Blackbirds may be Peters' best album to date. That's also what I've said about each of her last releases. She is an unstoppable musical force. Her melodies are as memorable as her lyrics - a rare combination. She may just be one of our strongest singer/songwriters recording today.
I tried to find the piano music to this beautiful song, no avail, unfortunately, I don't play by ear, need the music, any body know where I can find it. thanks.
Love Gretchen Peters, who has a new exceptional album out now, called "Dancing With the Beast." See her whole discography here: gretchenpeters.bandcamp.com/album/blackbirds
Love everything about this song, but especially her voice and the strings.
So heart touching all my loved ones have died.

How is it possible that only 387 (now 338) have liked this song? So beautiful! Truly one of the greats!
