I have a college buddy that's really into fly fishing. I have a small woodshop. I'd really like to make my friend a fly fishing net someday. I need to watch more of your videos to get some clue of how to go about it. Thanks!
I highly recommend giving it a shot! Making a form and nets in general are a ton of fun and they make great gifts! I mean, I have no need for more than. few, so it's a blast to make them for others who then have an heirloom piece! Thanks for watching!
I picked up my steamer from rockler woodworking and built my steam box out of marine grade plywood with stainless screws as you don't want it to warp 😂
Oh man, my most recent steam box was a hot mess...cheap plywood, quick assembly, all lead to a goofy delaminated turd. Still works, but it's ugly and inefficient...@@andrewdg90
Great video guide! I need to come up with a new template for a bigger longer handled net for tight-line nymphing with 10-11' rods. A few things I do slightly different is to glue up a 3/4 and a 3/8 or quarter inch plywood for slightly better clamping surface and then cutting out the entire center leaving a 2" shaped hoop for extra clamping space if needed. I'm definitely transitioning to the flat end where the handle meets the form though!
Yeah, having a good 1" thick template to work with really helps and I totally see the plus side of having just a good looped net template. I have been experimenting with using blocks on four sides of my net templates as well, but haven't had the most consistent pressure applied...still deciding if that's a way to go or not. The squared end is my favorite because then you can get all artsy and sketch in the shape you want.
Unfortunately, I don’t at this time. If I had the means to accurately reproduce them (like having a CNC), I would jump into making a few. That may be something I embark on in the future, however.

Thanks for the great video. I've been thinking about making my own nets and this really helps.
I really hope you give it a shot! It’s a lot of fun to make something by hand and hit the stream with it!
@@RiverbendWoodworks I plan on it. I love your wood and epoxy nets. I have some ideas on what I want to do.
Thank you!!!!
You’re very welcome! Hope this helps 👍
Can i buy a form from you?

Ok thank you
