The Nagano Mine Ruins are located in Nagano. Mining work began in the 1630s, and copper, silver, and lead were mined, and it was famous as a copper mine because of the high proportion of copper.
During Chiyoko Shimakura's lifetime, she sang local songs all over the country, and her "Taishakukyo Kouta" (1968) was one of them. The monument was erected on October 8, 2017.
Chiyoko Shimakura's calendar that was hanging on the wall of her ruins was from 1981, so it seems that someone hung it up as part of her efforts to revitalize the region.

At the request of the local area (Taishaku/Higashijo) who was keen to promote Taishaku Gorge tourism, Shogo Shiratori (July 1939, 49 years old) decided to visit Teishaku Gorge, which begins with the words "aa, Teishaku to the west, Towada to the east..." I wrote the lyrics for the song.
Another 20 years later, Japan Columbia produced and released a local version of Taishakukyo Kouta, with lyrics written by Akamatsu Tsukisen (June 1951, age 61) and singing by Chiyoko Shimakura (June 1951, age 20).
