Firstly that engine just sounds like pure poetry. Secondly although that lightning strike was absolutely terrifying, it was badass that you got it on film and That you can actually hear the thunder. I've never quite seen something like this.
this is the cfm-56 Engine, like every Boeing 737 since the 400 series and most of the a-320. Anyway the Rolls Royce's engines are not the best...had too much technical failures...see the BA b-777 in heatrow or the Qantas a-380 engine failure. the best are the GE's engines!
Commenting 2/3/20 at 625am EST...from southern RI, USA...You're so right about the lightning strike and a bang of thunder at 05:36.....incredible...as one can hear the thunderclap despite the loud roaring engine of the 737...((and the PA announcement about it around the 7:40 mark)) ..Back on 1/29/64...my very first jetliner flight was in a severe Tstorm..way down in Montevideo, Uruguay..en route to Buenos Aires, Argentina and then finally to NYC's JFK airport the next morning..I remember the lightning and the severe turbulences..I was at age six at the time...yet...56 years later..I remember the event so very well...even to this day...
wow! don't know if i would be amazed or scared haha. i also had the luck to record a lightning while take off some time ago. it did not hit the aircraft but looks dramatic anyway
Whoever might find this unusual for that time of the year - Weather does`nt care what time of the year it is - All you need is the right vertical decreasing temperature gradient that produces enough convective energy and you get the charged cell. This is very typical in the north sea area when there`s a distinctive vertical temperature difference between the ( relative) warm ocean surface and a high layer of arctic air mass above.
Aside from the lightning strike. That flight deck crew knows how to taxi. Book it and get off the ground quick. Also, holding the brakes until takeoff power & engines stabilized, nice
I was Watching this Video and Oh My God was this True that a Lightning Strike really hit the Aircraft. This had to be Very Frightening for everybody. I'm glad you all are ok and everything. Justin Rosenberg
I work at Glasgow Airport and remember about a year ago hearing the big emerattes 777 plane getting struck by lightning as it was coming into land at Glasgow airport and i jumped on the ground, about an hour later i met a couple of the flight and spoke to them and they said well if you jumped on the ground then how do you think we felt on the plane lol

The engines just make this noise during take-off when engines are set to full power. The noise is beacause the edge of the fan blades exceedes the sound barrier. When the plane is in crusing altitude, the engines are not in full power and this noise dissapears.
Scary. But no,problem. The fuselage is a large Faraday cage. Named after the English scientist Michael Faraday who discovered basic principles of electricity almost 200 years ago.
"we had a small lightning strike but don't worry there is no problem at all, the aircraft is fine, usually we don't get anything but a small hole somewhere...." WTF.. now Captain I fully trust you with my life and all but Sir..please get me back on the f***ing ground 3 minutes ago please.

mohanicus it's because the edge of the fan blades speeds up to sonic speed and breaks the sonic barrier, and this is the reason why this powerful sound is created
It’s a Boeing 737, Ryanair only operate this type of aircraft but that sound is only during take off when the blades are turning faster than the speed of sound and once at a cruise altitude it goes away completely. I live close to Glasgow airport and situated by the gulf stream storms can be frequent
I'm surprised so many people in the comments say they like the engine sound. The first thing I thought of was, "Make it stops!" It sounds just like my weed whacker (insert joke here about how cheap Ryanair is.) It's only slightly less grating than nails on a chalkboard, to me at least. But I guess I'm in the minority here.
its not ryanair , their real name is lyingair and once you have this firmly in your mind you have some chance of avoiding the three card trick they will pull on you on every turn .I have just come back from Ireland and when you book your flight is for return but your case is only booked one way, so if you want to go home with your case you will have to pay again , so yes please that's another 70 euros . If their flights were free I would not fly with them.
Thank me later.
Take off - 3:56
Lightning strikes plane - 5:36
Thanks
Thanks
Is two years late enough? Thanks!

I like the engine sound
Those cfm56 engines are pretty loud being a bypass engine. The cfm leaps are way quieter.
the lightning strike happened at 5:36 ! wow
Airborne 971 i
Airborne 971 thanks
Airborne 971 9
Thats amazing !These must be Rolls Royce engines , wonderful roar !!Thanks
The roar is cfm engines not rolls Royce
Ryanair can't afford Rolls Royce engines on any of their planes. If you want RR then check out British Airways or Emirates or some posh airline! :)

sputnic The Heathrow 777 incident was nothing to do with the reliability of the engine it was fuel starvation due to icing .
Which was caused by bad design (no bypass) of the fuel/oil heat exchangers of RR engines, so Emilio was right sorry ;)
December is an unusual time of year for lightning in Scotland
The most sensibel comment on this video so far .
I've seen lightning in Ireland many times during the winter months over the years.
I LOVE THAT CFM ENGINE SOUND !!! ❤❤❤
Lighting: Ah shut up
Engine: no
Lighting: ok
Engine: ahhhhh nooooo
Lighting ZAP!!!!
Engine: i don´t give a fck
This Engine Sound ❤️

5:34 lightning strike
I love that engine sound it’s beautiful! And thanks for uploading this!

Glad to see you break out of the clouds

I also like the loud sound of engine

+Crafty Cakez 😂😂😂
Last month I flew for the first time and this creepy engine sound (4:15) literally freaked the f*ck out of me thought we were gonna crash
Beautiful.
great video - 9 minutes before the crew gives an announcement tells you they were awaiting to clear the cloud

Seriously whats ur problem lol
Another guy with nothing better to do with his / her time than comment useless shite on youtube ;)
+Woodhose what u on about
I'm watching this in Glasgow airport about to board my flight to dublin on Ryanair
Luv da wing flex. 💪💪
nice capture!!!!! of lighting strike...no problem for an a/c....carry on as normal!!!!
Idk it seems more common for them to return to the airport for an inspection anyways. Sometimes there is charring where it struck and exited.
Where was that captain from? His accent is cool😂
@0:34 lol it sounds like he is on drugs

I wonder if you could feel anything.
me too
not.karin.johnson no, you can't. Planes are made so that doesn't happen.
It's like 'click' from inside of the cabin
Agree. You only hear and maybe see it, nothing more. Happened when I made an attempt to go home... Flight returned to where we came from...
3 things.
How much extra did you have to pay to record?
I’ve never seen a plane taxi at half V1 speed.
That was a big hit!
Great catch!
This is the time.... one can say.... Boy! it's safer way up here than below the clouds !.........
fantastic
Lol my flight leaving Denver INT sounded exactly like those engines. Yeah, I was onboard a 737, but still, it’s kinda creepy. ( 5:02 )
That noise must have been torture listening through the flight. Would drive me nuts.
The engines just make this noise during take-off when engines are set to full power. The noise is beacause the edge of the fan blades exceedes the sound barrier. When the plane is in crusing altitude, the engines are not in full power and this noise dissapears.
I love the noise. If only it lasted the whole flight.
My mom hates this sound but me and my younger brother love this sound 😍😍😍
Scary. But no,problem. The fuselage is a large Faraday cage. Named after the English scientist Michael Faraday who discovered basic principles of electricity almost 200 years ago.
Glasgow is my departure home from here to sunny places
Showtime
Nice sound)))
Lovely video...love the sound of the jets. Thanks.
Not lightning. Just reviewed the weather for the day. It was an internal flash from a camera reflected in the window. Thank me later.
AWESOME..
TOGA 10 take off right there!
Good CFM Machine.
wow close one!
Good take off... And like 🛬✈️🛫:-)
Those rods are to discharge the electricity. Harmless to the craft.
Pilot shouldve throttled back right after the strike. People would've been bracing for impact. lol
It's perfectly safe anyway, so there'd be no point
always this sound when you sit in front
Are you avoid flyer overall?
Sounds like a cheap lawnmower from a Garden Centre!
That has got to be the most annoying fucking sound ever.
Good video mate, subbed. Did they say anything about the lightning strike?
+TonyBananas101 Sorry, I missed it somehow.
Never sit just in front of the engine row9-15
Dan Middleton if you love aircraft then please do.
Noise sound is too loud

knowing fuck all about plane engines...a question....whats that long droning noise on take off????
this is CFM engines, the more the thrust is big, the more the engine is noisy !
Turbine rotation speed is causing that end of the blades are exceeding speed of the sound causing this noice.
there is wind sound too if the plane is speeding up ....over 10 000fts....
mohanicus it's because the edge of the fan blades speeds up to sonic speed and breaks the sonic barrier, and this is the reason why this powerful sound is created
Guessmyname your right
Engine sound is very loud ... i think not comfortable..
It only sounds like that until it gets up to it’s assigned altitude
that was scary..
not really
General Electrics!!
Sounds like a a320 engine
you wish
Sure! Boeing uses the CFM56 too. But I don't know why: I find that the CFM56 from an Airbus sounds better. :-D
Henning S I have to agree... My favorite plane is 737 but I saw a movie of an A320 with cfm56 engines... Love the sound!

sarah galvin definitely not
sarah galvin thanks for saying that. I love you! Lol
Menos mal que no paso nada o mayor se pudo heber sido una tragedia aerea
Was there any felt at the moment of strike. Turbulence etc or anything else
It was like the engine exploded.
