  • Well, 2023 hasn't shaped up to be a great year for electric motorcycles. All indications are that 2024 will continue this trend, but hopefully things will improve. Updates on Damon production, Lightning Motorcycles, Energica/Ideanomics, and more!

Zero is still around? Good for them! They have potential, as in... mostly potential. I wish Zero well, I hope they can make it. Energica needs someone to compete against!

Major manufacturers, you missed the Honda teasing us about their forthcoming announcement.... (and showing glimpses of an electric 'CBX' with auto steering!)

@@ZeroFun that isn't going to happen for passenger cars, let alone motorised bicycles.

This is sad and exciting and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Damon gets a laugh, for sure.

Electric motorcycle news has been trending negative for the last few years. No one wants to put money into them. Scammers are thriving.

Sad news for sure. What about Ducati and triumph? Haven't heard what they're doing recently in the electric motorcycle field.

I hope 2024 brings a few new releases to keep things moving forward, my Ribelle's finance is up at the end of the year and I want to trade it in so someone else can get a good deal

It's not like I expected anything out of Damon, Lightning and Sondors. You could say Stark Varg was the most positive story of 2023. Ryvid has started customer deliveries so maybe they can succeed where Sondors failed in the commuter catagory. Sadly it looking like ICE bikes still have a good decade of life left in them until EV's will be competitive to the masses. Thanks for doing this year end review.

Yeah, I think you’re right. EV car tech needs to bake for several years before density and price are at a point where they can go into motorcycles with a more compelling offering.

What do you know about Ryvid? They were supposed to be delivering their 7-8k city commuter with removable battery.

They posted a video about a week ago of a large shipment about to go out. Said they were trying to send one more before the end of the year. Seems like they're really trying.
Seems like a great little commuter bike!

    1) Υοu haven't mentioned that Zero from the 2024 will keep the same models lineup but the Models S, SR, DS and DSR they going to be manyfactured under newer chassis and components. The S, and the SR will have the same chassis and components like the SR/F and the DS and DSR will have the same chassis and components with the DSR/X. They will be equipped with the 14.4+kWh batteries and the S and DS can be ridden in Europe with the smaller licence A1. That's why the S SR DS and DSR until 2023 are going to be sold cheaper until there are out of stock.
With this move Zero will better optimize the production and these models with the bigger batteries and motors will have better performances.
    2) The Japanese company you mentioned with the small motorcycles is Kawasaki, not Yamaha.

    • @ZeroFun

That's it, Kawasaki, I couldn't remember, and it wasn't quite frankly worth my time to look up. OEMs should be bringing the best tech to the table, leading the transition to EVs. But just like four wheeled EVs, they just drag their feet until they're forced to start the transition. 2024 and the best Kawasaki can do is a commuter bike?
I meant to mention HD. Same stolen 2016 tech in their flagship bike. (They bought an early Energica Ego and reverse engineered it, haven't changed the Livewire since, besides colors) Then the Del Mar, which has the specs of a Zero SR from ~2016, it was 18K USD? Reduced to 16.5 I think? OEMs aren't trying. :(

And Harley Davidson probably cut a deal with Alta so Harley could steal their IP, then pull the rug out from under Alta and force them to close doors, shutting down a competitor on purpose.

Storm Sondors ripped off thousands of people with the Metacycle. He should be procecuted for his financial crimes.

What a weird US-centric review. There is worldwide success of small electric scooters and motorcycles, being used in cities. It is now cheaper to work as a delivery rider on one of them than on a 125 cc petrol bike when you add up higher PCP and cheaper fuel. Taiwan is full of bikes with swappable batteries. Take a look at the Chinese home market, not the USA. Even at the Birmingham motorcycle show, we had lots of stands from electric motorbike manufacturers from Maeving (made in Coventry), Super Soco, Horwin, Niu to Silence (using the same battery for bikes and microcars).
You may use bikes for sport, but in most of the world they are a way to get from A to B. Just look at the bikes in Africa that Itchy Boots meets on her current tour.

    • @ZeroFun
      @ZeroFun  6 місяців тому +1

I’ve documented a few 2-3K mile rides I’ve done here in the USA. We need 100+ miles of range and 1-2 hour charge speed to be a “real” motorcycle here.
A city commuter is what most people need, which is why Metacycle was such a big deal. But my hopes were it would evolve into something the wider two wheeled audience here in America would ride. A more “complete motorcycle” replacement.
If you can’t charge over lunch, and ride a few hours in the mountains with gas bike friends, it’s a hard sell here.

"You may use bikes for sport, but in most of the world they are a way to get from A to B" I actually have been using a ss9+ from A to Bs since 2020....just does a "bit more" work then my previous supersoco. Those urgent deliveries/pickups hitting the limiter, those highways you can't ride with mopeds, that DCFC when I put +180km @work per day. Yep perfect work horse. Don't be so centric ;)
