I used to be able to play that song. Haven't played it in years, I'm gonna test it out and see If it's pretty easy to relearn something that was all but forgotten.
Thank you so much man, you broke it down in a simple yet complex and easy to understand way that made sense! Best breakdown of technique I've found yet!
ive been learning midnight and didnt really know how to apply it somewhere i hadn't figured out what was going on so thank you very much!!! im going to play my guitar now.
I guess I'm the exception, my dominant hand is on the fretboard, for no reason other than holding the guitar like that feels natural(I'm lefty but I play right handed guitar in a right handed way)
I HAVE 2 TELL U...U ARE A AWESOME GUITAR PLAYER .I ENJOY WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL...I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THEORY.I DONT EVEN KNOW THE NAMES OF CHORDS...I JUST TRY TO PLAY WHAT I FEEL..SO I ENJOY WATCHING SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY R TALKING ABOUT....U ROCK....THX 4 SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE...MAYBE I'LL LEARN SOMETHING ..
Thanks for remembering that tapping is not only for eruption style triplets or string skipping arpeggios but also to create some keyboard inspired music. This technique allows fine rythmic twists
thank you so much tyler!! your lessons are improving my playing a lot! really considering on getting your guitar supersystem course, im sure it will be really helpful, cheers!
I download tablature. Often times there is a T above the staff. and a number, for example, 36. No guitar has 36 frets, so I am wondering what the 36 means. Help?
I really like some of the sounds you're getting at slower speeds. Sounds better to my ears. But not everyone is right handed. I'm left handed, so that's my dominant hand. I also have to wonder where the pick would go while you're doing this.
I'm sure this is a demonstration issue, but I feel like your wrist angle is impeding your pinky-tapping velocity. Great video, the Amaj7 (9) as you called it was beautiful. Good choice!
are thicker strings better for this kind of tapping? i mean, is easier to get a louder sound with thicker strings? my tapping at 4th, 5th and 6th strings is fine but with 1st, 2nd and 3rd it almost doesn't sound
I am trying to tap the fret, but everytime I do so I can hear the pitches from both sides of the strings. So I can hear the desired pitch but I can alse hear the pitch from the side of the string that leads to the nut of the guitar
Turn on the amp volume . If u hav to practice unplugged (avoid if u can ) mute strings with An hair band. But again if unplugged u cant pratiche proper muting technique IMO
for those who dont aboit him check out Stanley Jordan...he almost exclusively two handed tapping in rock and jazz...and hes been doing it a long time and I havent really seen anyone else take it to his level
Sorry for the ignorance, but how do you set your guitar and amp/pedals to be able to tap? Bridge or neck? High gain or just high volume? Compressor/overdrive/reverb? Thanks! Dave
Jennifer S I think most of those options are really a matter of taste and preference...but some compression would make tapping a little more forgiving as it will even out the notes even if you're not tapping with a consistent attack...slight gain would also sound good as long as it's not too much that it sounds sloppy...add some reverb and delay to taste and have fun :)
4 note per string and 3 note per string 7 positions with the basic 7 chords and arpeggios at the start of every mode then learn extended chords/arpeggios. If you know how to play natural minor, harmonic minor and melodic minor you know how to play 21 scales/modes you just need to start at a different position at a lower Of higher pitch depending on the key you want. Since I use drop tuning I keep the lowest string as the tonic. Once you know those 3 scales you can Practice the minor scales and all the positions in one key then play the next mode in the same key and all its positions and so on till you've learned all the modes in the same key 3 note per string and 4 note per string. Play all the scales in 3rds and 5ths to get familiar with the intervals and how to play them you can also try playing different modes of a key with left and right hand tapping e.g. B locrian with left hand (7th position of C Ionian) and D Dorian with right hand (2nd position if C Ionian) the are a third apart. After wards you can start mixing up arpeggios with both hands and adding extra notes in the key or extensions to make it sound less like a exercise and a little bit less boring more musical.
You really wanna learn some two handed tapping, just watch any videos from Scale The Summit. Chris Letchford and Travis LeVrier definitely got their technique down. Don't get me wrong though, this guy is good.
I've been watching your videos for a while now, really good stuff! That neck looks kinda fat, it makes me uncomfortable just thinking about playing on a guitar like that xD
I had to listen to that twice.. Sometimes we ALL misspeak. Are you sure that you meant to say "Joe Satriani is a PRETTY GOOD guitarist." ? I'm curious about who you might think is one of the best or is YOUR favorite guitarist? I was hoping you'd be able to expertly pull off "The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing" tapping section. Maybe a moment of Van Halen type blazing or tapping of arpeggios. Just thoughts. When it comes to tapping, have you heard of this young gal named Sarah Longfield? ua-cam.com/video/2hs2keoBAu8/v-deo.html
now i can play math rock. thank you

Midnight by Joe Satriani

The beginning of your solo was amazing. Please, develope it and load the video.
man dude ur awesome.. if only u can do an tutorial on the song with the solo on

Reminds me of Josh Martin, the best at this technique
Another great lesson! Good stuff.
I am trying to tap the fret, but everytime I do so I can hear the pitches from both sides of the strings. So I can hear the desired pitch but I can alse hear the pitch from the side of the string that leads to the nut of the guitar
Oak Drive let me guess, youre playing unplugged

0:53
Since i'm not into Satriani's work, it sounded to me like a fragment of "Atlas Novus" by Chris Letchford (Scale the Summit) haha :P
You are so good at guitar man 😂😂

Do I hear; Midnight by Joe Satriani?
Got to 1:21 and put my foot in my mouth.
what a lovely track.
This sounds almost like something you'd play on a piano. Nice.
What are your amp tpne settings for this?
Somehow my guitar doesn't respond to my taps I use D'ddario Chromes and I feel like its bcuz of the strings?
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SHIRT?
Sorry for the ignorance, but how do you set your guitar and amp/pedals to be able to tap? Bridge or neck? High gain or just high volume? Compressor/overdrive/reverb?
Thanks! Dave
Jennifer S any

Do you have anything that pertains to simply mode scale shapes? Aeolian, phrygian, etc... Or do I just need to buy Super System? -_-
Tracy McGrady yess i need to know these too

You really wanna learn some two handed tapping, just watch any videos from Scale The Summit. Chris Letchford and Travis LeVrier definitely got their technique down. Don't get me wrong though, this guy is good.
"Joe Satriani - pretty good at guitar " YUPP
I've been watching your videos for a while now, really good stuff! That neck looks kinda fat, it makes me uncomfortable just thinking about playing on a guitar like that xD
0:17 Plays better without even looking and not even trying than I do when I'm focused 100% (sorry for bad english)
Let's keep it at zero dislikes

Your tuners werw all facing the same direction
So I guess someday I gotta get an amp.... ;-)
Did eddie van halen invent that?
My guitar is so badly setup that tapping 12 fret has like 6000 overtones to it.
Although it is close 😂😂
I had to listen to that twice..
Sometimes we ALL misspeak.
