He testifies with a lot of confidence for a guy who knows the tapes, if released (which was still an open question at this point), could either corroborate or contradict his testimony.

That’s because he was a POS with no conscience

Yes, Erlichman was an extremely brazen individual. His lying on his feet about the attempt to bribe Judge Burns regarding the Ellsberg case is incredible; he continually modifies and shapes his story to fit hints given through leading questions by the questioner. Hard to award a medal for who is the best liar of the bunch but he is certainly a contender, along with Haldeman and Nixon himself, who was no slouch at lying himself.

The Watergate hearings were riveting political theater. Such gravity and sense of history. Imagine MTG , Boebert, and Ted.Cruz asking questions!

My political science class in junior high school was garbage compared to THIS reality.

To be honest, I feel sorry for everyone that worked for Nixon. He was the reason it all happened. Before Nixon resigned, Haldeman & Ehrlichman asked him for a pardon and Nixon refused. They went to prison protecting him.

Seems to me that Nixon was a brilliant man but full of anger and hate. He had so many loyal supporters that he cared nothing about. The whole thing is rather pathetic

Here, Erlichman lies about that entire matter. Nixon did not testify at their trials nor on their behalf at the time of sentencing. Evidently the old adage holds:
“There is no honor among thieves.”

The discussions between Congressmen are incredibly telling, particularly the “security concerns” stretched beyond all recognition to rationalize the government breaking and entering whenever they please. Here, it is explained as being necessary to break into his therapist’s office in order to steal the notes he had written on his patient, Daniel Ellsberg, to obtain “adequate data” in order for the CIA to improve upon the psychiatric profile they had written on Ellsberg, in the manner that they write one up on international political leaders. When all else fails, the insinuation is made that the targeted individual, Ellsberg, is a national threat, possibly a “Commie;” and that his “associates” better be investigated too. Even now these terms are highly effective.

while I understand that many might have a problem with Ehrlichman, I believe that what he actually testified to is true. He does dance around answers but the things he did testify to have shown to be true. He's not lying. He's dancing around to protect the president. The tapes do not show that he lied. he just didn't tell everything. At least the parts of the tapes that I have listened to. This is so tame considering what has gone on since the 1990s. So tame.

Well, he repeatedly refuted what Dean said. The tapes vindicated Dean entirely.

The fact that Erlichman thought Hunt and the CIA could decide who was a “cook” is laughable considering Hunt was the biggest loser, lose cannon, fantasist in this whole business. The fact that he convinced this bunch of sheltered dilletants of his spy novel fantasies is both pathetic and hilarious.
