Chairs that are used are better painted as varnish etc doesn’t wear well. I refuse to watch the videos that ruin antique or even just older furniture with paint. What you did was practical and really toned down the orange of the table as well. PS As a china collector I would have loved a close up of the it as it wasn’t a common pattern.
The results are fantastic! I'm not a maximalist, but my mother is, and I appreciate how you worked within your mother-in-law's style. I even like the (for lack of a better term) slouchy, casual arrangement of the green dishes on the table. It looks intentional. If this isn't too forward, I have a suggestion for the breakfront (that is what we call those; some people might say buffet - I think the key with a breakfront is that it has a back piece with a mirror). In terms of displaying the green dishes, I have a tweak as a suggestion. Try stacking the dishes not so much by type but as little sculptures. So for example, stack 6 dinner plates under 4 salad plates under 2 saucers, under 1 teacup. Then set several teacups nearby. Next to this create a thinner, shorter tower with just salad plates and saucers. Behind this, display a dish on its side just by leaning it between stacks and the mirror, or set it into a sturdy easel. Add additional interest with other pieces such as gravy boat or teapot. The point is, treat the set-up as sculptural. I actually think this is what you did in the china cabinet which looks lovely. -So enjoying your videos!

Why would you want all the dishes out they're going to get dirty and you're going to have to wash them before you use them it makes it look more cluttered youttered you could still keep them but put them away them away I know she's trying to show them because they're pretty dishes but does she need all that does she entertain As you get older you need to declutter

Oh, it's stunning. It's not only elegantly beautiful (elegant comes up a lot for me with this make-over) so it's only only beautiful it's also comfortable and welcoming - it invites you in to have family moments. I keep veering from thinking it has a 20's feel through to 40's - and I love it. I hope all the family come over and are able to enjoy the space. Little pup really goes very well with the new look - it could be designed for him.
Wow. What an astonishing difference! I personally love antiques/ quality thrifted finds and family heirlooms and can appreciate the sentimental aspect of how much sincere contentment she must feel having her things on display. And, that sideboard she scored on marketplace is a stunner.
