I love your reviews of these guitars because they don't sound too over processed. Many reviewers on UA-cam use so much post processing, and effects that everything they do sounds exactly the same. I appreciate the better representation of the actual guitar, thank you.
I really like the new Studios, but I think that they’re not really meant to be a pricey off-the-shelf guitars that they’re now, but rather a pawn shop find that plays just as good as any 2000-20000$ Les Paul, yet only costs small part of their price. TBF I am biased on this, since I’ve never bought a brand new guitar, but when you’re looking for a new guitar and compare a 800-1000$ 2010 Studio in Wine Red, and new 1700$+tax Studio in Wine Red, the only difference you’ll find is that old one has few dings/scratches and a proper set-up.
Here's a thought ... while you've got all those LP bursts hanging next to eachother on the wall, do a quick flyby camera shot and mention the name of each burst. We're all pretty used to seeing isolated photos of individual guitars, but it's not that often they're all lined up in one shot through the same camera and lighting for side by side comparison.
Perfect video. Thank you for the comparison notes. Great playing as always. Some of these finishes look better without binding. Smokehouse Burst is my favorite and I think it looks a little off with binding. I wish they did a Tribute in Smokehouse. I like the satin finish.
I’ve never owned a Gibson. Now’s the time but Epi is not an option. I’ve tracked down a mint used 2010 Studio in wine red with original case. It’s a great price too! Excited about it!
Just got a 1990 Gibson Les Paul studio with ebony fretboard, love it. And with current Epiphone LP prices, it wasn’t that much more than what a new Epiphone LP costs. I do love the Epi 59 outfit LPs though.
Good for you! The 90s studio's with ebony fretboards are pretty rare and are becoming somewhat collectible these days. Also, no print circuit board, coil splitting, ultra modern weight relief or other shenanigans on these older ones. I also prefer the old style Gibson Deluxe tuners on these over the kidney shaped chrome ones on the recent models. I own a 1994 Studio Gold in ebony finish, which I bought brand new at the time. Mine has a rosewood fretboard but that rosewood is of a beautiful quality. I also like the gold hardware on mine, combined with the ebony finish it makes the guitar look really classy. i remember taking it home from the shop and it was immaculate, the finish, set up, just a beautiful instrument, almost three decades later it has a little wear here and there, but it still looks the part and I'm still somewhat in love with it. At the time I really wanted the Standard but I couldn't afford one, nowadays it wouldn't hit a dent in my budget, but even though the Standard is a gorgeous looking and sounding instrument, I frankly don't feel the need anymore.
@@renek243 Thanks! Glad to hear you’re also happy with your 90s studio. Sounds like an awesome Les Paul. I fully agree. The early studios with the traditional specs seemed to be right on par with the standards and other pricier models in terms of quality and feature. I don’t much care for the more modern features on the recent studios.
I will choose a Gibson over an Epiphone any day but....I just wish the Gibson's were available with the same cool custom colors the Epiphone's are available standard.
Always quite liked the studio aesthetic with the plainer tops and lack of binding. Shame they’re just so high in price these days. That’s Ibanez prestige money!
Finally - someone reviewed one of these fine instruments without 17 different effects including 3 overdrives! You really demonstrated the inherent variety of tones that Gibson put in the LP Studio at the factory. I just bought one but with cream-color pickguard and reflector knobs. Also has those Kluson-style Gibson Deluxe tuners with the green keys. Again, most of the LP Studio guitars I've seen have Grover tuners with chrome kidney keys.I've yet to see another one so equipped anywhere so I'm thinking it was either modded by the previous owner or a special order of some kind. Anyone know anything about that? Again, great review!
I've got a Gibson Studio, more of a tobacco finish. Really good guitar. I got it used, almost new condition. There are a lot of nice Epi's, used to have one, but this is still better. Good video, wasn't aware of the coil tap vs split.
Another difference between coil tapping and splitting is the tap style remains a humbucker, which is a thing worth considering. Pros and cons but it should be an informed decision. I have a wine red Studio, this sunburst finish model looks great! I like red guitars but if this was available when I bought mine I might've gone for it. One inobvious advantage of the non-bound LP body is that the subtle roundover edge makes these more comfortable against your body and forearm. Makes a surprising difference.
Right on, I've got one Les Paul that sounds like a Strat or a Tele, gold foil pickups did the trick. So, I've found that Splitting or tapping on a LP sounds like a thinner Les Paul to me.
I’ve played a Korean Epi LP since ‘94. My kids gave it to me for Father’s Day. It’s been all over the US and a couple other countries. But, the frets are done, and not going to be cheap to refret and it has too much sentimental value. So she’s going to my son. Love that guitar…… Ordered a new bourbon burst studio today.
What about the top 5 reasons to buy a studio over a standard? 1 its cheaper 2 it looks better in its simpler vibe 3 the backs and headstocks are painted matching (with satin necks) 4 490R/498T pickups sound so much better than burstbuckers 5 Coil tapping.
GREAT price for USA MADE and I'm digging the color too!, Is Gibson Going to try and start making more Explorers with similar set ups and close to same sort of but?? TY, John and Zack, Nice Chops too
I have 2 lp studio's and i love them both. A 2012 smokehouse and a 2020 ebony with gold appointments it is gorgeous. Buy American i say. You get what you pay for. I love the tangerine burst you demonstrated. A beauty for sure , thank you.
That’s very light, even for the weight relieved models. Where individual weights are listed, such as Sweetwater, the average was about 8.5 pounds, with quite a few being 9. Mine is a ‘22 model, and it’s 8.5. Great guitar, and I got lucky with a top that has better flame than many of the high-end models I’ve seen. But mine is cherry burst. It’s rather striking, because the center of the burst isn’t yellow-ish the way most are, but natural maple. I’ll probably keep it forever.
A solid maple top with a veneer for cosmetics offers the same tone quality as a solid maple top without the veneer. It’s just a lot easier to source the maple and apply a thin veneer without discarding because the grain doesn’t look nice enough.
Gibson might call this a coil "tap", but it's not. The pickups are split, but on the circuit board there's a capacitor that the shunted coil drains through which allows the low frequencies to short to ground, but blocks the higher frequencies. The result is a little less bass when split, but that's about it. You can easily bypass this by soldering a piece of wire in parallel with the caps, which I did on my 2012 Studio, which gives you a true coil split, just like you're getting on the Epi.
@@maraviyoso8473 because all it's doing is splitting the coil in the bass frequencies and retaining both coils at higher frequencies. Once I bypassed the cap for a true coil split, the volume most certainly drops.
@@BudgetRC_Channel wouldn't that be still a tap on one of the coils? I'm just a guitar player, not a technician; but, it seems what you're describing is actually both a split and a tap.
@@maraviyoso8473 no. A tap is when a certain part if the winding is brought out like you see in the output transformer of a tube amp. One winding with "taps" off of it. In a coil split, it's just where the two individual coils in a humbucker join.
Yes I love the Gibson Studio, The Lazarus you'll have to buy 2nd hand and I believe the prices have been pushed up to about the same as the Studio or more. Thanks for watching
An Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro around $800.00 or a new Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy (has Fishman active pick ups in it)....The new Epiphones are made excellent. Shoot you can buy either one of these with a practice amp for less than a Gibson Les Paul Studio.
@@petedetraglia4776 there is no push pull in the tone knobs on the 2022 Epiphone Les Paul custom. Mine is only two months old right out of the box and I have checked that trust me.
Interesting. I just got a new LP Studio recently, almost a pound heavier than yours, more in line with your Epi. Mine also had a surprisingly good fretboard. I have a range of paulies and the Studios, despite being the most affordable, are my favorite. Might have to add an Epi version to the collection. Subbed.
Id pick an epiphone custom over that POS any day . Even the epi goldtop has ten times more to offer on craftsmanship. Even the sound of them buckers would make Les Paul turn in his grave. 🤣
Its crazy how expensive chinese made guitars are becoming to where cheapest usa guitars are only few hundreds more. PRS literally makes a 1600 dollar chinese made guitar now. Absolutely ridiculous.
Paul Reed Smith S-2 guitars are built at their Maryland USA factory. They cost around $1600 and are great playing guitars. I still prefer my Gibson, Les Paul Studio over my PRS S-2 Custom.
I've owned (2) Gibson Les Paul studios in the 90's. One I put an EMG 81 and 89 (splitable pick up used as the neck pick up) in and the second I left stock...Good guitars but a bitch to keep in tune without lockers on the tuning pegs. I bought a new Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro in KOA 6 months ago and its absolutely amazing for just about half the price. The Epi has 7 layer binding on the body and 5 layer binding on the head stock. The EPI has split coils and phase inverter. The Epi has block in lays from the first fret on down the neck...After a professional set up the Epi consistly stays in tune without locking tuners. The Gibson studios cost $1,300 to $1,500 dollars where I live now and I bought the Epi Les Paul Custom Pro for around 800.00 with a gig bag, pack of new strings, strap, and picks. The Epi Les Paul Custom Pro with the Probuckers 2 and 3, better neck shape, and better sound is clearly the winner for me for just about 1/2 the price out the door...Shoot the new Epi's Prophecy with cut away body and the Fishman pick-ups are better than the Gibson Les Paul Studio and are still cheaper than it...
Wish you would have included the Tribute as I think it's a better choice than the Studio. The Tribute in my opinion has some nicer features, the exposed maple that mimics binding and a maple neck at a lower price.
And not only for the g string. I have 8 guitars including 2 different gibsons. A guitar always has that slightly out of tune situation when you press a fret due to it's natural way of being. And yea g string generally gets out of tune more easily on gibsons. I don't see it on my Jackson.
Thanks for the 2 vids - Epi & Gibson. Honestly the coil taps just sound like a mistake, whereas the Epi coil splits have a musicality that's way more useful (for me, at least). And then there's the circuit board just to make potential pick-up changes difficult! And all this for another grand. What a missed opportunity.
Great choice! In stock and ready to ship, I hope you'll use our link: www.zzounds.com/a--3979398/item--GIBLPST00 Thanks for watching and enjoy your guitar, let me know what you think!
The one thing that kills me with the studios is the golden silt screen Gibson logo. In my opinion it looks really cheap and really just turns me away from the studio altogether. I would have bought a studio years ago if it weren't for that.
See my pic? Tats a 2013 LPJ tricked out to a full blown Studio with faux binding / 50s wiring / CTS Pots n Mojotone Caps / Creme plastics / vintage green kluson tuners / vintage amber switch tip / blank truss rod cover / SH-55 Seth Lovers humbuckers / gold jack plate / rolled fretboard. Its a one of a kind custom tailored for me 😘
Thanking of doing a Studio to Standard conversion for my 2005 Studio Faded someday. Frankly, it sounds great as it is thanks to its stock Burstbucker Pros.
The nitro marketing lie! If having a 'breathable finish' on a guitar made it 'potentially more resonant', then guitar players would demand guitars with no finish, not a guitar that 'potentially gets more resonant as it gets older'. I do wish people wouldn't perpetuate this marketing lie because it makes them look dumb. The only thing that nitro does is provide Gibson with a marketing angle for people who still wish it was the '50s. Gibson make their nitro smell of vanilla - in order to get you to buy the guitar (I know as I have one). When you buy it, it already has more scratches on it than a poly finish - because it's a softer material. After that, it scratches, cracks, checks, fades/discolours, absorbs bad smells and comes off completely. If this makes you feel like you're in the 50s/60s/70s, then cool - just don't pretend to yourself that it affects tone or makes your guitar more special. It's just marketing history.
The way the Epiphones are going up in price, for me it’s Gibson every time now. Save up for something new, or wait and hunt for a used one, you won’t regret it over the Epi.
Yea, I’ve played an Epi since ‘94, love it. Ordered a new 60’s custom in white. When I got it, there were so many file marks on the neck binding it was embarrassing. Sent it back, they sent me another. Same thing. I ordered a Gibson studio. Haven’t got it yet, so we’ll see. My ‘94 has none of that. It’s Korean, not Chinese. I also have an old Epi dot delux, it’s gorgeous too. I think Epi made a mistake going Chinese. I’d rather spend the extra money for an American.
Since ppl like to knock Epiphone which is a good guitar. Here's how to save money. Buy the Epiphone LP studio, buy the 490 p/ups that aren't coil split. Swap em out and voila, you got a lp studio that sounds as good as the Gibson w/o payiny the high price. If you're in it for investment purposes, buy the Gibson. After all, the sound is from the electronics depending how cheap or expensive they are. It has nothing to do with the wood quality.
I always found the tributes to look better. Although The studios models are above the tributes, the ugly finishes of the studios makes the tributes look better.
I've got a "worn white" 50's Tribute which is a satin distressed finish from the factory. I bought it off eBay several years ago for $580. The rosewood board looks almost black. Plays like a freaking dream but I'm a Strat guy & I love the custom one I put together about 15 years ago. It's a case queen but so is the Tribute
@@gearmeister yeah I used to have 2017 tribute goldtop. i now own a R8 and R9 but i still miss that tribute. the nice satin neck was nice and it played so smoothly
My Gibson LP Studio costed so much were i live. If i bought an Epiphone LP Studio i would be able to buy 3,5 Guitars for the same price. Sure it's great but not that much better...
You shouldnt compare studio to studio, it would be a better comparison the epiphone 1959 which has gibson humbuckers and better electronics against the gibson lp studio
I've bought an Epi LP Custom in 2023. It was unplayable, fret buzz like crazy even after the luthier's job. So I've been refunded and chose the Gibson studio. The way it's feels and play is drastically better in my hands. My favorite sounding guitar is the Gibson standard 60s ( to me ) but it's overpriced so i stay in the middle of everything.. a cheap Gibson studio which satisfies me a lot.
I held my tongue on that Epiphone Studio video because I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. But I immediately hear the difference between the 2. It's not even close. That Epiphone Studio might be the blandest guitar I've seen on UA-cam! Wow. Totally boring. The Gibson has a noticable jump in tone. I really enjoy the Epiphone with the Carribean fade. I forget the name. So I don't hate Epiphone at all! Just that Studio which was bland and lame. This one 👍
Sorry, but all of those reasons to buy the Gibson just dont hold water anymore in 2022. Especially when you can buy a Harley Benton, Firefly, or Vintage, for a fraction of the price. These days, Gibson are trading soley on their legacy. Anyone who thinks American made guitars are inherantly better than Korean or Indonesian made guitars, JUST because they are made in "Murica" is deluded.
Not really that appealing to me for the price. That particular guitar fingerboard does have a cool looking piece of rosewood. I don't like the circuit board thing either. All in all, it's still not a guitar made for me.
You can upgrade your Epiphone to Gibson spec minus the nitro finish, fretboard, and you can literally overcome these "top 5 reasons" and still be within your budget. These sound like marketing reasons. Keep your guitar and play it forever.
Les Paul Studios were priced at $800 new just a few years ago. Now just like all Gibsons they are now grossly overpriced with a price double what they should be. Coil tap instead of coil split? Don’t bother. Coil tap is still a humbucker not a single coil. Beautiful guitar but not even close to worth the asking price. It’s unfortunate but I don’t even consider Gibson guitars anymore. I go for the knockoffs now. Wolf makes a fantastic Les Paul.
I agree on the price thing but I would like to have a Gibson someday. I'm a bassist I sprung for a RIC 4003 recently and I'm not sad that I bought it . I'm just wondering if its better to just take the plunge and buy a LP std or get a classic and save some cash.
@@michaelblaney4461 honestly dude get a Godin. It'll be a way better playing experience than a Les Paul studio. Don't get me wrong, I love my Gibson. But objectively speaking it doesn't get anywhere near my Godin in terms of playability. The godin just feels like a modern, well made instrument. And again, love my Gibson but Godin makes them as they're supposed to be at this point.
Tangerine. The clowniest of the clown bursts. The smoke house is truly stunning though. And really, stop using that makita on guitars. It terrible form and a lot of people are embarrassed for you. Wait until you drop it. It will happen.
Sweet, no nonsense Gibson Les Paul, plays great and i love the finish. I could do without the pickguard, I always hated those useless plastic things sticking out of the body.

is there any les paul below 8lb? or 4kg?
Its crazy how expensive chinese made guitars are becoming to where cheapest usa guitars are only few hundreds more. PRS literally makes a 1600 dollar chinese made guitar now. Absolutely ridiculous.
Paul Reed Smith S-2 guitars are built at their Maryland USA factory. They cost around $1600 and are great playing guitars.
I still prefer my Gibson, Les Paul Studio over my PRS S-2 Custom.
Well s2 is American, and SE is Indonesian, and they're both fantastic
Country of manufacturing doesnt matter anymore tbh... And I'm all for USA built but with technology, the other countries have gotten WAY better
All machine made . No human error. Welcome to the machines.. I prefer older tool mark Guitars 🎸
We live in the worst area of capitalism
Planning to buy les paul studio .
Has Gibson fixed the "staying in tune"...G string I believe it was?
That will never be fixed, and it’s not just Gibson
And not only for the g string. I have 8 guitars including 2 different gibsons. A guitar always has that slightly out of tune situation when you press a fret due to it's natural way of being. And yea g string generally gets out of tune more easily on gibsons. I don't see it on my Jackson.
Getting a used Gibson Studio vs a new Epiphone it’s a no brainer to go Gibson you can be patient and find a good deal
Fits like a glove
Thanks for the 2 vids - Epi & Gibson. Honestly the coil taps just sound like a mistake, whereas the Epi coil splits have a musicality that's way more useful (for me, at least). And then there's the circuit board just to make potential pick-up changes difficult! And all this for another grand. What a missed opportunity.
Thanks for the video, I‘ll buy a Gibson Studio Ebony :) anyone a good suggestion for a new amp for the studio?
Great choice! In stock and ready to ship, I hope you'll use our link:

Thanks for watching and enjoy your guitar, let me know what you think!
dammmmm... that guitar.... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Subscribed👍
Not available in my region😔
The one thing that kills me with the studios is the golden silt screen Gibson logo. In my opinion it looks really cheap and really just turns me away from the studio altogether. I would have bought a studio years ago if it weren't for that.
Love it!
I want that green🥰🥰😍
Great video and great job on the timber! Canadian by any chance?
Thanks for watching! We’re from the Chicago area
Ibanez artcore gutair is possible to be traded for one in the future
I really need to win that guitar.
Got for it! These LPs are the best to mod.
Spend the extra and get a Gibson standard
Studio's got a little bit of flame in its plain top.
True
I'm confused. I thought this was a comparison video between the gibson and epiphone?
Love this guitar. Can't stand the 490s though.
Didn’t say who you were giving it away to , did ya?
On the other hand, by getting an Epiphone you get more consistent quality control and a more complete-looking instrument
🤣
Yep and it is made with slave labor .
For the money, epi gives you more options!
Except resale value
So you think personal feelings about an instrument effects how it plays and sounds , not !
My Gibson LP Studio costed so much were i live. If i bought an Epiphone LP Studio i would be able to buy 3,5 Guitars for the same price. Sure it's great but not that much better...
499$ ? Where? Let me know
You shouldnt compare studio to studio, it would be a better comparison the epiphone 1959 which has gibson humbuckers and better electronics against the gibson lp studio
They aren’t meant to be the same sound, though.
The Epi is modeled after a 59 les Paul, the studio is a modern-spec les Paul.
Both great instruments.
Amigo !! Muy buenos tus videos. Solo creo que tendrías que hablar más pausado. Vas a decir lo mismo y se te va a entender más , felicitaciones
I love the current Sweetwater ads where the girl decides she want to start playing guitar and buys a $5000 guitar rig
You’d be surprised how many people can, and will, do that. So many fabulous guitars are owned by people who are basically tinkerers.
IMO my Gibson studio is so comfortable, but the sound is not even near to a vintage 70's I have. I wish I sell or trade the studio someday
the 2018s were better in the fact that it had a bound neck and 57 classics.
My Gibson Les Paul Studio plays and sounds better than an Epiphone Les Paul Cistom.
Compared the two together and it was no contest.
Eu moro no brazil e não posso participar do sorteio ... sacanagem
This one 👍
For the price difference, get a Tribute, same specs without coil split ... and I mean THE SAME, coil split is not worth 600$ CAD.
Different pups and mahogany neck and body. Real mahogany!
$1,699 and no case 🤦🏻♂️
Studios are way better than Epiphones. And I love Epiphones
Not to mention these are plekked too
For the price, the epi is better value
Sorry, but all of those reasons to buy the Gibson just dont hold water anymore in 2022.
Especially when you can buy a Harley Benton, Firefly, or Vintage, for a fraction of the price.
These days, Gibson are trading soley on their legacy.
Anyone who thinks American made guitars are inherantly better than Korean or Indonesian made guitars, JUST because they are made in "Murica" is deluded.
Play them side by side, and the Gibson Les Paul feels, well plays, and sounds better.
The copies might fool a novice, but they don’t cut it.
@@coreymineard yep
Because it's a Gibson.
Not really that appealing to me for the price. That particular guitar fingerboard does have a cool looking piece of rosewood. I don't like the circuit board thing either. All in all, it's still not a guitar made for me.
$1000 guitar.
You can upgrade your Epiphone to Gibson spec minus the nitro finish, fretboard, and you can literally overcome these "top 5 reasons" and still be within your budget. These sound like marketing reasons. Keep your guitar and play it forever.
Thanks, as mentioned when the Epiphone Studio video comes out, you’ll hear the five reasons to buy it over the Gibson. Thanks for watching!
Not really. The wood and built quality and the overall feel is just not the same and that can't be upgraded, unfortunately.
Yep...same. 👍
@@Sargoneees the same old "my guitar is better than yours." 😏
$2200 Cdn funds now. Ridiculous
Awesome😅
Tangerine. The clowniest of the clown bursts. The smoke house is truly stunning though. And really, stop using that makita on guitars. It terrible form and a lot of people are embarrassed for you. Wait until you drop it. It will happen.
Stop saying old school nitro, it's not even close, modern nitro gibson uses is a plastic finish
Gibson...shut up and take my money!
Sweet, no nonsense Gibson Les Paul, plays great and i love the finish. I could do without the pickguard, I always hated those useless plastic things sticking out of the body.
