Not many kpop idols got the qualities like IU nowadays. No wonder JYP is quite mad when he heard that someone from his company reject IU during an interview. Theory: IU is leaving her twenties, and when she reaches the train station there is a board saying "where are you going". The list is about the first and last song she wrote in her twenties, from the spring of twenty to LILAC. On her card it says "departure: HYLAC , destination: BYLAC." This technically means that she is departing from HYLAC (hello twenties) and travelling to BYLAC. (Bye twenties, hi thirties) when she gets on the train she experienced many stuff including friendship, sadness, love and hate."i bear my tears" which means she's sad to say goodbye to her twenties. She then meets friendship wearing a purple suit, the train is full of happiness. After that, there's a scene showing IU fighting strangers which MAY be haters and the food or whatever it was is a music award. She encounters many experiences until she reaches her destination, BYLAC. In BYLAC, we can see she looks scared and lonely, looking around since it's a new environment for her. But she still smiles thinking "it's alright" .

Edit: we can see at the beginning, before joining the train IU is wearing a cute vintage outfit but after reaching her destiny she's looking tired, her outfit looks messed up as well as her hair which tells it was an amazing but exhausting and also interesting journey.
Edit 2: we can see when the train is filled with petals, or its raining petals, we notice the women and other few people are unhappy about the petals. This means "many people hate your success". IU is saying that she was getting more and more successful and many people were happy for her, but like the women were annoyed (they're pictured as haters) haters would still hate. But IU is still happy and smiling which gives another meaning "never give up" or "don't let People who hate your success enjoy your happiness"

then next she looks more into the colors of industry ,she is partying , enjoying , with a mask on ,like she sometimes need to fake things infront of camera like all artist have to , light was bright on her face resembling camera lights on her face and also the limelight, some people are near her and some are far now at party train scene
Then next she looks like a fighter , scars of fight on her face , because she has struggled , learnt , fought for the position she is now , and sitting lil tired but still needs to fight and the waiter arrives with food , this is her awards or all sort of rewards she need to win but in the way she have to fight for them, and she gets there at food at the end , and
Then next scene where she is on station lil sad and hopeless , because she is at end of her 20s , fearing that whether she would be still running in the industry , whether people will still love her, whether her songs will still have the magic on her fans and Audience
And then at end you can see another train arriving which put strong light on her face and also she looked happy with hope , resembling as 30s are arriving , she should welcome that fearlessly and be happy , since it's just another phase of life
Life of k-pop artist or idol struggles at their 30s because most of their industry limelight stays during their 20s and after that they struggles
So this MV was resembling her own journey
