Lynn Castle, the lady barber and song writer, had her first album, Rose Coloured Corner, released in 2017 when she was 78 years old. The recordings were made some 50 years ago. She dated Phil Spector on and off for three years and her hair dressing clients included Del Shannon, the Byrds, Vincent Price, Johnny Mathis, Neil Young and Sonny and Cher, in whose Good Times movie she made a brief cameo. Although at one stage she nearly recorded with Bob Dylan (one of her "almost" stories) she ended up returning to hair dressing. Interesting lady with a fabulous husky voice.
And still alive.
Thank you for sharing, Andrew!
I was thinking she must have an interesting story and she does! Do you know which song she wrote for The Monkees?
wow, what an interesting story. i would’ve never known. thank you for sharing.
Thank you
“Have you ever performed with Frank Sinatra?“ Gotta love her sly reaction
What a riot Frank was. First time I've seen he & Mia together.
Look at Frank and Mia together and imagine how their son would have looked. My answer: Ronan Farrow.
He really does look like their son but he's not. ;(
@@cynthiareynolds3432 come on yes he is...he's not Woody's

It seems obvious that Bennett and Arlene had guessed early on that the mystery guest was Mia Farrow, and were just waiting for Frank Sinatra to figure it out.
What a great show this is. To be on for 17 years with regulars like Arlene,Dorothy and Bennett and host John , but also so many guest panelists. I've been watching episodes on UA-cam for several weeks now and there doesn't seem to be many famous people that haven't appeared. Imagine how much money they'd have to pay the stars to appear today,it just wouldn't happen. Different times then , fantastic to have great shows like from the early days of television for us to enjoy today , absolutely love this show
I think the show was rigged, and/or that the guests could see through the masks. They always "guessed" the celebrity with only very vague clues. Very sus...
I mean to say that this episode holds a layer of irony. For Frank Sinatra to appear on the show with the level of involvement after the death of Dorothy Kilgallen speaks volumes of the feud between the two.
My father worked at Random House for a while and worked on that unabridged dictionary--and like the other employees who worked on it, he got a complimentary copy. I remember we had that massive hardcover dictionary around the house for years! Great resource.
OMG it weighs like 40 pounds! We can find it all with the computer but I CAN'T let that dictionary go!
Thank you for uploading. I started watching this show in the 70's when I was a child. Today is New Year's Day, my family and ex-husband are deceased and I am very comforted watching it right now.
This show literally helped to pull me out of a huge depression several years ago. I had insomnia and was so thrilled to find it one late night on UA-cam. I find it oddly COMFORTING and FAMILIAR! 😀
Hello, Laura. If you see this I hope you are doing better as time has passed. Bless you.
Hope you're ok, Laura.
I'm watching this with my partner of 21years, no kids and stuck indoors with covid restrictions. I find it reassuring and entertaining even tho i never saw it originally (Im 48).
We're in it together even tho I'm in UK👍😁
@@electraglide9357 - Your comment struck a cord … I watched this show regularly** and watching it now IS comforting; probably because it reminds me of my youth and years as a newly-wed and young mother. That’s wonderful Laura
Two years later, Nancy Sinatra's collaborator, Lee Hazlewood, produced a single record by Lynn Castle. Lynn wrote both songs. The A-side was titled... The Lady Barber!
The song she wrote for the Monkees was called "Kicking Stones" or "Teeny Tiny Gnome." I don't think they released it. It's on a rarities album called "Missing Links."
WOW
Ignatz Mouse Was it called “Steppin Stone”?
@@katesleuth1156 No, totally different song. "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" was written by Boyce and Hart.
Ignatz Mouse Thanks for clarifying that.
Several years later, People magazine began. Mia Farrow was the first person to appear on its cover.
I love this!! I love that Frank was on and then Mia!
Oh, Mia was so precious. You can see why Frank fell for her.
She was beautiful so was the barber.
I think you're both insane. a spindly, gawky tom boyish girl with a butch haircut and the most eligible bachelor on the planet chooses her? one of the most bizarre marriages ever
Yea, but what the hell did she see in him?
@Corno di Bassetto She went to India beginning of 1968 after Sinatra had served her with the divorce papers on the "Rosemary's Baby's" set (November 1967). The divorce was finalised in August 1968 by which time she had fallen briefly for John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas. Her marriage to Frank had lasted little more than one year because she wanted to pursue an independent career. But she also wanted a family and liked older men, because soon after (1969)she met 4 time-Oscar winning music composer & conductor André Previn, who was 40. She got pregnant and in 1970 they got married .
@Corno di Bassetto Do you know what? I find that everybody is so judgemental when it comes to other people's choices! I, who DO have backed out & given up on no mean love interests out of respect for women, am not so judgemental. One can only expect sacrifices from him/herself, I believe. Emotional self-denials are very costly, even on the long term.
O, how I wish my mother were still alive. It would have been fun to watch these old What's My Line? shows with her.
❤
Great to see Mia Farrow from the same period that she was playing Rosemary. Arlene's questioning of her (especially one) is hilarious.
I understand lots fans of the show admire Dorothy's talent at solving occupations and miss her dearly, although for pure entertainment and every aspect of the playing the game, good will and all the rest of it Arlene was hands down the best of any person involved with WML!!!
Mia Farrow was just perfect!! With her outfit.
I like how Frank Sinatra acknowledged the audience. So few celebrities did on that show.
Frank and Mia. You can tell they really loved each other and they remained friends after their divorce until his death (to the point where he offered to kill Woody after the fallout of his affair).
Arlene to Mia Farrow: " Have you ever performed with Frank Sinatra?" Talk about double entendres!. ;-)
Leave it to Arlene. Her quick wit was hard to beat and really something.

Mia started young on ABC's 20th Century Fox Television production of "Peyton Place". Based on the novel and 20th Century Fox film of the same name, the show ran for 514 episodes, and 5 years, from 1964 to 1969. The program was a trailblazer for Primetime Soaps.
Mia played Allison MacKenzie in episodes 001-263.
The entire series is on UA-cam.
Popular show in it's time.
My older sister used to watch that .
I remember as a little kid when neighbors , relatives , and family would gossip about something going on they would say it was a real Peyton Place .
Mia was so beautiful and sweet. You can see why Frank fell for head over heels for her.
After seeing this its hard to imagine Mia Farrow could be so good in the Woody Allen films. She was great in Broadway Danny Rose.
Classic. 'You got the same name as mine'
I met Mia's sister, Prudence Bruns. I believe John Lennon wrote a song about her, "Dear Prudence" after they met in India at the Transcendental Retreat with Maharishi. Prudence had so many celeb contacts with her mum and dad in Hollywood that meeting the Beatles didn't really appeal to her.
Wow I got a little history lesson just by reading the comments, thank you
Yes same here that's why i always liked reading comments because you never know what you'll find
This is so lovely to watch
What a fun episode! Watching them all in order and this is so far my favorite of the post-Kilgallen era. (Of course, it probably helps that I am a huge Sinatra fan!)
I was pretty young when I first heard Mia was dating Frank. I could not comprehend that a girl that young would be with someone so old.
are u from another dimension ?
sfd Me too I couldn't bear to be young with so old man, unless powerful and generous
Loved seeing Frank Sinatra. He fit in real well on the panel even if he was reluctant to. Clever of Mark Goodson to do what he did. I was beginning to think he was dense😅.
Me too!! An absolutely unique episode. Great fun.
Frank Sinatra was very comfortable with saying, “Get out!”
Phyllis Newman Outfit rocks ! Love it 😍😍💞💞💞 I think she is so special and cute!
Phyllis Newman is a beauty!
You could never fully take away the crude Jersey Joe from Frank.
Frank in full form here: "Baby you can cut my hair anytime" and the way he gives Miss Castle the eye when they shake hands.
I love love love this episode! They put one over on Frank! So much fun!
The beautiful lady barber in this show, Lynn Castle, was the favorite barber and stylist for many diverse celebrities. In addition to Steve Allen (as host John Daly mentions), she cut and styled the hair of musician Del Shannon, the Byrds, Sonny and Cher, Vincent Price, Neil Young, Johnny Mathis, author Ray Bradbury, singer Jim Morrison, songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, and more.
That would explain it. Big hair was also very big in the 60s.
This is my absolute favorite "What's My Line?" of all time.
Yeah this is probably my favorite one also
Sinatra was the epitome of cool. Mia Farrow was the epitome of sweetness.
Ava Gardner on Sinatra's marriage to Mia Farrow: "I always knew he would marry a boy"! Ha! That was then!!

Color me shocked to see Sinatra on this show. Because...ok, this show only recently started appearing in my recommended...and, I’ve been drawn in to watch a few. One being (according to video description and comments) from the actual day before Dorothy Kilgallen was found, dead. And the comments compelled me to look up the circumstances surrounding her death. And, from doing so, I learned about the hostility b/w Dorothy and Sinatra...and how he would make fun of her appearance during his live shows. And that he was callous about her death, as well. Not that he had anything to do with it, of course. But still...I just find his being on the show afterwards, in which she starred for 15 years, a bit weird. And everyone was friendly, naturally. But did they not know how badly he was insulting Dorothy while she was alive?
Frank shooting his shot with Lynn Castle while his newly young wife Mia Farrow is also on the show lol priceless 😂 always a ladies man. What a fun show!
Mia Farrow went from a stunner like Frank Sinatra to Woody Allen. I wonder what happened there.
THE BEST EPISODE I've watched so far ! 👍😂 Didn't Mr.Sinatra was SO FUNNY !?!? "The 🐀 pack ??? " All ABOUT bars & Partying !?!?!?
IVAN HORVAT. trying to sustain his ego image..
Im surprised Sinatra agreed to be on this show. Cool!
He appeared after Dorothy's passing. They didn't like each other. That might be the reason why he agreed to be on the show.
Wow this show was on 16 years wow. I recently watched one with lucy ,& desi. Ronan farrows dad is so handsome . Love old blue eyes. So cute she wrote mia sinatra.
What a show an all time great.. all on the show were super stars
As Mia Farrow departed, I thought... Frank should've asked her to take his place on the panel for the next guest (so she could partake in the fun) - now that would have been 'class'
That was so enjoyable to see. I was a young teen at the time and barely watched this show. My dad was the one that turned the channel, not us kids.
Mia Farrow was not the only one on "Peyton Place" with a Roman Polanski connection. Barbara Parkins who starred as Betty Anderson for the whole run, starred with Sharon Tate in "Valley of the Dolls". Tate played her signature role of Jennifer North in that film.
And Parkins attended the wedding of Roman & Sharon in January 1968.
I miss Frank, he was a charming man, loyal to his friends, and truly a Star - both Stage/Singer, and Film.
Great memories -
Rosemary's baby marked my life. Such a masterpiece.
"Hail Satan!!" = That scene just cracks me up!! LoL
They seemed in love. She said he was the love of her life. At least they had Ronan.
No ,no , no ... Ronan is Not her son and even Nancy Sinatra says he's not , even though the Sinatra family adore Mia and are close to her.
Please try to find photos of Mia farrow's Dad when he was young and you will see that Ronan looks A LOT like his grandfather .
@@gardensofthegods he looks more like his dad- Frank Sinatra.
@@carolinecorman1716 no you believe that because you want to believe it and Frank Sinatra is not his father
Woody is definitely NOT the father.
Frank wasn't about to admit he did have a bald head.
I imagine the caterer Frank was looking for had already been fitted with a pair of cement shoes.
I was watching this, and just to the side, I see a ‘New Yorker’ interviewee,
and of course, it’s Ronan Farrow!
To which I can now only respond, ‘ Heavens to Betsy! ‘
Bennett and Arlene knew in 2 seconds. The others were lost and Sinatra didn't even disguise his voice.
The end of Mia Farrow on "Peyton Place" also meant the beginning of her film career.
In March 1967, Ira Levin's Horror novel, "Rosemary's Baby" was published, and it became an instant classic. Soon, Paramount bought the motion picture rights, and hired Roman Polanski to direct it (his first American picture). Polanski came upon Mia Farrow, and knew that she would be perfect for the Female lead of Rosemary Woodhouse, in the film that would make her a movie star.
So she got the part, struck up a friendship with Polanski and his wife-to-be, actress Sharon Tate, the movie became an instant classic, just like the novel, and the rest was history.
Was she married to Framk for a long time ?
Barry G 1966 to 1968.
***** And wasn't it "Rosemary's Baby" that was the catalyst for their divorce? As I recall, Sinatra demanded she abandon the movie mid filming and return to him, and she refused.
What's My Line? Yeah, it was. Like I said, she lost her job on "The Detective" because of it.
What's My Line?
Well, it certainly doesn't seem like it was ever a marriage that was meant to be. I really didn't know anything about it before, but just from seeing Frank's interactions with Mia on this episode and from reading the comments here, it seems that Frank thought of Mia as some sort of little doll that he could control and command at will, and became furious when she did not obey his commands, but instead asserted her own individuality and independence. I don't know if soulierinvestments is correct in his assessments of Frank's and Mia's motives for getting married or not, but the whole relationship kind of gives me the creeps from both sides.
Phyllis always seemed like such an upbeat, happy kind of gal
great and excêllent show, wonderfull!
Something just occurred to me: most people don't approve of marriages where there's a huge age difference, like Frank and Mia, as well as other celebrities (and that's understandable), but how come no one ever seemed to have a problem with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall?
No nameplates on the panel, because of the lineup being changed after the first segment.
And how about this. For the first time in WML history, the Mystery Guest in Game 1 joins the panel for the rest of the game.
Didn't that also happen when someone from the British version of WML was the first challenger?
Yeah it was great I wish they had done something like that a little more often ... I think even more people would have watched the show if they had done that
@@loissimmons6558 In the January 10, 1954 episode, Ghislaine Alexander, a panelist on the British version of What's My Line, was the first mystery guest and then joined the panel for game 2 only.
Frank Sinatra was such a fantastic, extremely talented huge star in a galaxy of stars. I really don't think that there'll ever be anyone to come close to Sinatra. I am honored to have grown up in the latter half of his life. He was a real man's man who could really walk the walk.
He was a larger-than-life legend yes extremely talented but far from perfect

Mia Farrow is beautiful. Now and then.

Arlene Francis is 59 here. She was born in 1907. 59!!!
Arlene Francis took a dig at Frank a bit when Mia Farrow came over to greet them all on her way out and Arlene said "You look 4 years old"...... She took a shot at Sinatra for dating & marrying someone who was 30 years his junior. He was 51 and she was 21 but he had seen her since she was 16 or something along those lines (can't remember exactly). But it was a HUGE gap and Arlene was going to have none of it. She was very rooted in her beliefs even if it was Frank Sinatra.
Dorothy Kilgallen took an inside scoop of him. Didn't even show up until after her death.
"You sing, you've got hair and you're not on television...
...why?"
Good question honestly.
One of the main reasons Frank sinatra never appeared on the show in it's 16 years was due to his bitter rivalry and dislike of Miss Kilgallen, she sadly passed away just over a year before this.
I remember when Mia got that Vidal Sassoon short haircut. It was a scandal.
Good to see Mark Goodson - Very classy guy.
Another one with a huge ego. I far prefer Todman.
I remember the Frank-Mia marriage as if it were yesterday. Even my hometown newspaper - which covered showbiz only when it was absolutely necessary - covered their . . . merger. Frank was only one example of Mia’s career modus operandi. Mia was only one example of Frank’s libido operandi. Someone said of Astaire-Rogers that Fred gave Ginger class and Ginger gave Fred sexiness. In the case of Frank and Mia, Mia made Frank cute and Frank made Mia rich. For a while.
Interesting. I have never thought of their marriage in that way.
Reportedly, Ava Gardner upon hearing that Frank Sinatra had married Mia Farrow said "I always knew that Frank would end up in bed with a boy."
Fortunately, the boy was not Jodi Michaels.
Her father was director John Farrow and her mother was Maureen O'Sullivan. She was born into show business royalty. She was born rich. When Frank divorced her, she took no money from him.
Hannah Kirchner and she was the star of the very popular TV serial Peyton Place for which she was very well paid and of course interviews, photos shoot, etc..
So beautiful then and now

Frank Sinatra agreed to take Mark Goodson's place on the panel.. But not (apparently) to play the game ("Do ya drink, kid?")
If Mark had known how badly Frank would perform on the panel, I don't think he would have asked him to be a panelist at all! Regardless of his iconic stature in showbiz, Frank now gets my vote as worst guest panelist ever. Move over, Wally Cox!
As disruptive as Groucho and not nearly as funny.
At the time Sinatra had the reputation as being an overbearing social bore. I don't know if that's true, but this appearance seems to support that reputation.
His presence seems to indicate he could have phoned in.
Sinatra was a horse’s ass. Pompous, arrogant f**k!
Nearly 50 years ago... wau how time flies!
I guess it means we've all been having fun
That was Frankie deliberately dodging Miss Kilgallen: "Are you by any chance affiliated with the Kosher Nostra?" might have proven just a tad too embarrassing for prime time TV... :-D

Mia Farrow was a goddess. One of a kind. I think she is one of the few ladies I Actually loved with that short hair. (Personal choice, I love long hair). And a great actress.
I remember well when 'Allison' cut her hair. You would have thought the world had ended.
I remember my much older sister talking about that
They should of had Dean or Sammy as guest for Sinatra to try to fool him etc
WHEN THIS PROGRAM AIRED MIA FARROW HAD BEEN MARRIED TO FRANK SINATRA FOR ONLY FOUR MONTHS. She was 21 and he was 50 when they married. Marriage lasted only two years. And it certainly didn't seem like Sinatra had much respect for Mia judging by this video. Treated her with contempt, as if she were a child, even if he was joking, it's obvious something wasn't right.
Sinatra was being a jerk all evening. How embarrassing.
Have you seen the four-hour documentary All Or Nothing At All?? That covers everything about it you need to know.
The definition of an Elfin girl is Mia right here!
FRANK SINATRA IS THE REAL KING THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD... WHAT A SINGER
Wow, what a gig Phyllis had: Wednesday and Saturday afternoons on Broadway. Wonder how much a bway ticket was back then?
Two years after this appearance, Mia Farrow was cast in the lead role in Roman Polanski's film of Rosemary's Baby, the performance of her career. She was also committed to play a smaller, but pivotal role opposite her husband, Frank Sinatra, in his film of The Detective, which was scheduled to start production several months later. The Polanski film's production schedule ran longer than anticipated. Sinatra became incensed and called Robert Evans, head of production at Paramount, and Ali MacGraw's husband and demanded that Farrow be released from her commitment to Rosemary's Baby. Evans showed Farrow the rushes from Rosemary's Baby and promised her that she would be nominated for an Oscar if she continued with the Polanski film. Farrow felt that she couldn't leave the production; Sinatra had his attorney serve her with divorce papers on the set of the film in mid shoot. Jacqueline Bisset replaced Farrow in the Sinatra film. After all of this turmoil, Sinatra and Farrow remained good friends and there is speculation that farrow's son, who bears a striking resemblance to Sinatra, is their child, conceived after their divorce.
I believe you are right about the papers on Rosemary's Baby. He did not want her to do that film at all.
MrImiller07 I don't think Frank wanted Mia working period.
MrImiller07
Sinatra was male chauvinist. And you can see there was nothing but love there, he, liked her youth and she, wanted fame. Once she had fame, she didn´t need him any more. He was a mafia leader and could have the woman he wanted.
I disagree. She was talented, had enough fame from her previous work & fame wasn't important per se to her: she was surrounded by it as a child of famous parents. Sinatra was no "mafia leader". Despite what you may have heard or read, the mob controlled most clubs & Sinatra wasn't the first or last performer to have to deal with it. Fortunately for him, he seemed to truly like some of these men, but was never in any way a leader, but associated with members.
I wonder if, given the suspicion surrounding Frank Sinatra and Dorothy's death, if any of those panelists who were extremely close to Dorothy felt really strange having Sinatra sitting there. That would have made me very uncomfortable. If we're talking about it today, surely back then her friends must feel uncomfortable. I'd also think anyone who incurred his disdain would not rest comfortably, nor would their friends. I don't know any details about this, so this is my personal opinion only.
There was no connection between Frank Sinatra and Dorothy's death. He considered her to be an enemy. His upcoming show was a huge deal and everyone at WML would have been very excited to have him appear on the show for the first time after all these years.
Great questions about Sinatra being bald! In fact he wore a toupee for most of his career.
