Wow! Good to know! I had given up using my Designer 1 for embroidery when the original software I got with the machine became unsupported and unusable. I, too, have a box of unused little floppies, and didn't know how to get them formatted correctly. Hopefully this will work for me, too! Thanks!
Thanks very much for this very helpful video. I have just bought a Designer 1 yesterday and the lady who sold it to me said I would need a much more expensive machine to be able to use designs bought on the internet. But I have bought one small design online to try your method and it works so far, though I don't have a diskette player yet (have ordered one) so I can't test it on the machine yet. But I have been able to export the file to the right format for my machine, so that's already one good step.

Hello Randy! Thank you for your video. I own a designer1 and i'me struggling to use all my patterns. I can't find the free software on the husqvarna site. Can you share the correct page with me? All the best from The Netherlands, Hanneke

This video was SO helpful; my aunt had never had 4D software, and I did but recently swapped out the computer for a newer one that would not run 4D. This was just a fix and I sure want to thank you for your insight and sharing.

Thanks for the run through. When you export to the floppy are you changing to .SHV or keeping the original HUS format? Did you have yo make “menu” folders like the original disks that came with the machine, or straight to the floppy drive?

How did you get the activation code to open the Premier 2 Software free version? I installed it and it says I need an activation code. I bought my D1 machine used recently so not sure if a dealer will help me.
I just used the free features, so no need for activation code. I import already made embroidery files that I only need to make minor adjustments, size, etc. before exporting to a floppy 💾 to transfer to the machine.
@@randygorr Thanks. 😀 I had tried it again after I commented and realized it didn't need a code for the FREE features. It still pops up reminders to get a code, but the free features still work. ...Dawne
I thought about getting this, so i can make a band logo for me and my friends leather jackets on the back. I’m not sure if the needle is thick enough to make the design on thick leather
I will try to work on this soon. By the way, I am migrating my sewing projects to a new channel. Please visit there and subscribe: www.youtube.com/@madebyrandy
Randy, I have a Designer 1 that I bought in 2005 or 06. I use it a lot but lately the "break thread" light comes on about every 200 stitches! No thread is breaking. I live too far to take to dealer. Do you think that I could continue embroidering with it even though the light comes on.
That happens to me occasionally even when I'm sewing. I simply hit OK and continue. The machine probably misinterprets an occasional brief snag as a broken thread. That's my guess.
So are you able to just download/purchase designs then simply load it into the Complimentary program ? Where do you tend to get your patterns and are most patterns you purchase online the correct format for this machine?
Sorry for the late reply. I tend to buy ready made embroidery files on Etsy, very economically priced. I open them in the complimentary Premier2 software to tweak them as needed and then EXPORT them to my purchased A Drive, insert the floppy into the sewing machine.
Hi Randy. Any ideas how to get a jpg into the right format? That's my current issue. I've just picked up a designer one and was very excited to find your walk through. :) It helped alot. I've had a lot of fun so far, but branching out to my own images is my next exciting step hopefully.
You cannot use a JPG for an embroidery file. There are various tutorials on UA-cam that teach how to convert JPG files for embroidery. You will usually need additional editing software for that. OR those tools may be available in the PAID software package PREMIER2. I have not gone to that extent in my projects yet. But my guess is that the paid version opens up lots of design tools! To avoid that time and effort, I prefer to go to ETSY and just find an actual embroidery file of an image. They have loads to choose from, all very economical.
By the way, you might also visit a webstore like Etsy and see if there is already an embroidery file that is close to the image you want. It saves a lot of extra work and they are priced very inexpensively. Just search for "embroidery files" there for your image such as ROSE EMBROIDERY FILE for example.

Not sure if you can help, I brought my Designer out of my spare room after not using it for 2 years. Now it tells me I have the wrong hoop. Any idea how to make it work again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TY
On your hoop are the measurements, 100 x 100 for example. Make sure that the setting on your control screen shows that particular hoop. You may have to click through the commands to find the hoop size. I hope that is helpful. Right now my machine is in for repairs, so can't refer to it to confirm.
@@randygorr I am sure I have the right hoop, and the right screen size hoop. I even used a disk that came with the machine. I am quite sure something is wrong with the arm. The machine sews just fine. TY

It's been awhile since I've used my embroidery machine. However, don't try a SAVE AS. SAVE AS is for saving the file to your computer only. Instead EXPORT it to your A Drive floppy. If your computer doesn't have an A drive, you may have to order one from Amazon. I ordered one with a USB connection. When you EXPORT, choose the HUS format in the top drop down window. For destination, SELECT your A Drive.
I found that I could only add 1 file to the disk. I had to use a separate disk for another design. I'm not sure why that is the case, but that's how I handled it. The sewing machine will only use 1 design at a time in any case.

It's a dream machine. The only feature I don't like is the buttonhole maker. I'm preferring to do those on my brother heavy duty machine which performs the task mechanically. The Designer 1 does it by its computer program and sometimes the needle will get stuck in one spot, stitching in place.

I export directly to the floppy drive. It's been awhile since I've done this, but I think I've been exporting them as HUS files.
I just picked up a Designer 1. I can’t seem to find the software download on the Husqvarna website. Could you share a link to the download?

I'd try a test on some random leather first. Also, I'd use a heavy duty needle.

What file does it use?
I think .SHV
I haven't done embroidery for awhile.
