About time. More houses to buy. Cheaper prices.

Not really. The houses that have gone from rent to private hands is so small it just wont make a difference.

Good! The housing market is one of those CLEAR barometers of that increasing wealth gap between rich and poor!!

It is irrelevant if a wealth gap increases.
The harder people work the more a wealth gap increases from the feckless.

“Professional landlord” Isn’t a profession. It is just a way of making money out of other people without doing anything for the community.

Person A: wakes up five days a week and develops designs for new products in a niche market.
Person B: checks their bank balance once a month and yells if something's not there.
'Professional Landlords': these are the same picture.

Only a person who knows nothing about business, and the responsibilities related to ownership would come up with such a nonsense statement like that. People who only rent will never understand that in order for them to stay where they are, there is a lot of investment that goes behind it, to make sure that nothing falls apart. Landlords do not just stand there and do nothing. I would not call it a profession, but the idea that is "parasitism" as the way you imply in your remark, just shows me that you do not own a property for rent... Plus most landlords are not only landlords. They are workers too. Soo that comment is just silly.

@ well I for one am glad that landlords are selling up and moving out of London. The amount of money I have spent on Landlords and got nothing in return is shining. When the landlords get out of London, rents will come down and house prices will come down and ordinary people will be able to afford to live again. Buy to let landlords are like a sickness that is sucking the life out of London.

@ I guess we will be Able to see how right you are… Let’s hope you are right. Or London will be most unfortunate to meddle with free business, like many have done and suffered as a result. So I do hope you are right…

Anyone who cannot afford the property's mortgage without the associated rental is over-leveraged and contributing to artificial demand. Real commercial enterprises with diverse revenue streams are best suited to not only weather the storm, but also contribute minimally to runaway price increases during tougher economic conditions as they're looking at margins over many years, not month-to-month. People who buy rentals on non-BTL mortgages *have* to increase prices reactively, because the bank and the renter are the ones taking on the entirity of the risk (as we saw during COVID) - it's the only widely tolerated form of fraud in the country, a welfare system built exclusively for the middle class. Landlords who actually add value to the economy do exist, but for the most part it's just crypto for boomers.

Just a thought...Why doesn't the government ask landlords to pay rent? Afterall, it is our country too.

Accommodation services are under attack from Labour making provision not financially worthwhile.
Time to sell up and see how things go from the sidelines.
In particular the problem with EPC's
2.9 million letting properties aren't currently EPC C compliant.
Pointless investing in sub-EPC C properties.
Wait until properties are upgraded and then consider buying.
There will be NO uplift in property prices if thousands have been spent on C status.
