"Buy the quietest type of aftermarket exhaust to make your loud exhaust sound good" Nah. 4-cyl exhaust "secrets" are keeping at least one cat, having the largest (length) glass pack you can find in the middle, don't go crazy on the tubing diameter unless you're making big N/A power (2.25" max for pretty much any stock or bolt-on+tune i4), then for anything on the tail section, you want at least 1ft of bare pipe after any additional mufflers and before any tips, and you want your tips under 4 inches and at least a foot long. Rolled edge, double wall, or "resonated" tips work best. You can go bigger diameter on the glass pack to get a bit of that muscle truck howl, but only if you have an additional axle-back, case-style straight-through muffler. Chambered mufflers are ass in general, particularly for flow. Hybrid mufflers (like a Cherry Bomb Vortex) should be okay, but watch your I/O diameter to be sure.
@@Drunken_Hamster What You can do if you have 4-2-1 headers??? I have a 2011 Versa and i want to eliminate that raspy, ricey note. And yes, i know i shouldn't modify a Versa, but it is what we have around Here (it's called Tiida)
It’s nice to see someone putting resonators on their Honda, I’ve been saying that for years. I personally stand by vibrant, their resonators are very high quality, you can run their ultra quiet up front and their small bottle resonator towards the rear, and a reputable muffler, the eBay mufflers are horrible and actually add rasp vs no muffler.
@3kzack do you have any sound vid of that particular setup? I used to run ultra quiet up front with nothing toward the rear combine with stock oem muffler. It sounds very good low end but when I gas it, it sounded like shit😂
@@yekki5h I don’t unfortunately I sold my accord that had the exhaust right after I did it, the thing with Hondas oem mufflers is I assume they are mostly blown out, and when you replace the resonator section with something aftermarket and delete the cat, you get that Honda buzzy sound up top. Their oem resonators seem to hold up well, if you look at videos of people with stock exhausts and just an axle back, it usually sounds pretty good. I only added that extra bottle resonator to clean up the tiny bit of Honda rasp/buzzy that was still there, usually the ultra quiet will be enough on most cars but honda engines just have that buzzy sound naturally
Im the same exact way I always love the look of fart cans and put one on my honda but I switched it for a twin loop after getting a res delete but imo the car is somehow quieter than when I had my res on so now I bought back the original fart can I had and im going to put it on soon
Yep, most beginners don’t realize that de-cats/cat deletes and resonator deletes, can make your exhaust sound like absolute garbage. Really cheap “eBay brand”/Chinese made complete catback systems, have those fake “resonators”, which are just a chamber/shell to mock the LOOK of a resonator. 😂🤣😆 It’s basically kind of a scam, but… you get watcha pay for, I guess. I always bought these systems and then added my own resonators, glasspacks, and rear mufflers. Straight-through mufflers, like N1 (“fart canons”) mufflers, really don’t quiet down a lot.. They need to be packed with a TON of fiberglass; and even then, they can only do so much. It’s more of an off-road/track thing, in my opinion; but some people run them just fine, since they really dig the sound.
If you want it louder with a deep tone, I'd suggest an Aero/Jones turbine 2540i as a replacement of the muffler at the end of the system. They sound very deep on a 4cyl.
@StevenMiller2 in case you are curious there is a video of the muffler I suggested on my cobalt ss Turbo on my channel. The exhaust system has no cats or resonators. I imagine with resonators it would be much quieter, but it has a deep deep tone.
Definitely! I knew I was replacing it when I bought the system. It's just easier to buy a complete system and modify it rather than build from scratch. Especially for $140!
I custom made my wife's Dakota exhaust because nobody made what I wanted for less than $600. I bought a full 3" universal kit and made it myself. It took an afternoon but trucks are so much simpler. It looks like factory and even exits the tail section like factory. Honda and sport bike exhausts are so much cheaper than truck exhaust systems
through my experience the exhaust sound isn’t the only factor what really effects the sound is also the manifold and the air intake as well and all that adds up with the exhaust and changes the sound of the vehicle. when i had just the exhaust on my car before it sounded like crap but changing other stuff changed the sound and it sounds much better
I have a gutted intake with all the side mufflers removed. If I wasn't going to turbo it, I'd get an intake that goes down into the wheel well but with it the way it is, the intake is very distinct. I'm getting an unequal length turbo manifold and replacing the cat with a 3 resonator plus replacing this canister with a reputable one. No idea how it'll sound. Also external gate
It will always sound like an underpowered Rice Burner! No matter what You do to it! Keep up the good work my friend. Wishing You and Your Family all the best in the New Year!⚡︎👍
There's a guy on here making 390whp and 382 torque on this motor. Stock top and bottom end just has head studs. The f22b1 engine can handle pretty decent power 😅
I got rid of the raspy exhaust sound by installing a turbo kit on my Civic 😆 This makes me wonder what it would have sounded like with just installing one of the resonators but it sounds kinda unique and I like that.
Still sounds a little silly, but much better. I wonder if one of those vibrant resonators might help Also try opening the garage door while sound testing... I think it might help with acoustics since the mic still picks up a lot of engine noise (vs exhaustnoise) bouncing off the door
Far from done but it's crazy what two resonators will do given the fact that cannon is doing almost nothing. I have a reputable cannon, unequal length header, and a 3rd resonator that will be coming into play soon enough!
I personally like the look of an angled N1 muffler, but I get what you mean. My wife's truck has a 3" outlet and my diesel has a 5" outlet. On a car, it's a cool look. I just like the muffler
I can't stand that high-pitched sound. Usually the deeper sound will drone more but it dropped a few decibels in the cab. Ready for an unequal length manifold and the new, reputable muffler to come in!
can/could you do slip joints and exhast paste? cut slits in one end to allow some flex, then use beefy clamps to hold it in place. Exhaust past just fills in small gaps to keep the gasses in. why can't you weld stainless?
i have an old tanabe hyper medallion muffler on my 94 cd5. it sounds pretty good but beings the cat was gutted out by the previous owner it sounds like crap
I am! Unfortunately only one company makes them for the f22. I'm going to be cutting the flange and replacing it with a t3 flange and turboing it this year sometime
i will be trying a vibrant 1140 resonator with a vibrant muffler + cat on 2.5 inch piping, ur car def improved , it is a f23 i blv? if u turbo it or swap it with a dohc itll sound even better!
I put it that way on purpose. The other way, there's no holes on the other side so it would create an absolute shit load of back pressure(and not in a good way). The listing did say to put them this way as well and as is they made a pretty big difference.
It’s difficult to make Hondas sound decent, let alone good. Uel headers is cheating! My k20z3 had a smooth fart tone until getting replaced with skunk2 parts. Their exhaust just made the stock tone louder, and the header added a wicked rasp and raw sound (no tin can bs) I think it sounds batshit insane now, but in retrospect it still has the Honda fart sound to it 🤷♂️
Without replacing what they claim to be a muffler, it will never sound good. I have the same exhaust system on my Civic, J2 or whatever the trash is callled.
Pretty sure that they're all the same brand and just redone/sold on ebay and amazon. Reputable muffler is going to make even more of a difference. I can't believe they didn't put ANY packing in that canister 😂 Those 2 resonators are doing a good job, though given the circumstances!
At least they didn't use 2.5" piping like all the other kits. That's just way too much pipe for a 4 banger. This one is like 2 and 3/8" so a smidge smaller.
@@StevenMiller2 Definitely, it sounds much better. I spent more than if I would have just purchased a Yonaka kit. Oh well, live and learn every time. Cheap is never cheaper. I replaced my muffler and it sounds decent but I still have the chamber it came with.
In my older years, I would normally keep the cat BUT I really want launch control/2 step so it would not last long at all. I have that on my GSXR as well. It's not cat friendly 😂
Not even close. It's very deep in person. It's not a 1.6liter civic and it's so easy to get rid of the rasp and get a deep tone. That, and what rust? It's a rust free, perfect interior, clean car with one scratch on the one side. You won't find an accord with 150k miles for $500 in this economy. I can't find any this clean for less than $2k. Yeah, definitely can't drive up them but there's still the support where it rests. I occasionally use them to load trucks onto my trailer but maybe once or twice every other month
If you want the Honda rasp to go away look into a twin loop muffler. They look kinda funky but take away the ricer sound.
I had one but yeah, there's no rasp left now. A good reputable cannon over the eBay ones make a big difference 😁
Can always not do an exhaust at all considering the cars a pile of shit
And keep the catalytic converter on
