Knots Landing at its best! I didn't truly understand Diana's character in the whole Chip Roberts storyline -- marrying and defending a man you KNOW is a murderer -- but it gave Michelle Lee and Julie Harris some some great material to showcase their characters.
***** It was truly fantastic for most of it's run. Lee & Van Ark were exceptional in the show as was most everyone. Best stories ever! If you ever get a chance to see it, the best years are probably around season 2 after Sid dies (when the show turned more into a soap -- after the success of DALLAS -- and up through the Jill storyline 1989. To this day it remains my favorite TV series ever!
TimsDale4ever Agreed. I always liked Knots over Dallas or Falcon Crest, the other shows I watched with my mom (she wasn't into Dynasty, so neither was I). The characters were just more down-to-earth on Knots than on the other shows. J.R. was a larger-than-life SOB, and all that oil business was just a bit much. Knots was a show about people who lived in middle-class homes, who drove middle-class cars and worked middle-class jobs (until, of course, Gary inherited his Ewing money and Greg Sumner came on board). Even when Abby moved up in the world, she was still a down-to-earth bitch -- she could be self-centered and conniving with others, but she would go through fire to protect her kids.
@@lmdmn1645 she did not . She saved her daughter in law from him . He was crazy he accidently fell . If she woudnt come in time he d kill not only himself but her too
Diana the smart ass daughter. A character l couldn’t stand. I liked her Cousin Olivia. She cleaned herself up. Didn’t Diana die off towards the series’s finale? OD? Really don’t remember. College and I couldn’t watch all the time. Wasn’t Lillimae mentally disturbed?
The detective at 1:06 is played by British actress Joanna Pettet. Back in the 1960s, she was a close friend of the actress Sharon Tate. Joanna had lunch and spent the afternoon of August 8th 1969 at Sharon’s home on Cielo Drive in LA, celebrating the coming birth of Sharon’s baby. Joanna said Sharon was over the moon in anticipation of her baby’s arrival. Mere hours later, followers of Charles Manson invaded the property and well, the rest is notorious history. The afternoon lunch on that fateful day is featured briefly in Quentin Tarantino’s film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, with Joanna played by Rumer Willis to Margot Robbie’s Sharon.
Joanna was really good in her role of the detective and a few other things i’ve seen of hers. And she was beautiful. She was in a weird haunted house movie with Lynne Moody, too. Lol.
I loved this show as a child. I was a weird kid, haha. It really is uncanny how great the casting is. You van really see a resemblance between Julie and Joan Van Ark ("Val").
Lilimae's gorgeous LTD is everything. And the looks she and Karen exchanged after she ran Chip over were priceless.... Like we knew what had to be done. Lilamae Clements, the original OG.
Diana was always screaming at someone with that permanent scowl on her face. She never was likable or even in a good mood. I never understood why that character was even created because she added nothing to the show.
At least Diana had great hair at the beginning of the series. Now with it hacked like that she has no redeemable qualities. Too bad Lilimae didn’t run over both her and Chip; they both had it coming.
Diana was an idiot for thinking Chip would treat her any differently than he treated Ciji, and completely unethical for helping him get away with the murder of another human being. I hated this character.
Yes,such an annoying character, if only Knots trades Diana for Annie Fairgate, her step sister, the first daughter of Sid Fairgate. Karen Allen (Pilot).
Does anyone else think the way this scene was shot and directed bares an eerie resemblance to Kubrick's The Shining? The slo-mo, the background music, just reminds me of the kissing the woman in the tub scene or the Danny drooling scene.
The warped sounding strings to build uncomfortable tension or danger were a pretty common trope back then…underscore like this was in lots of crime and hourlong drama shows in the late 70’s. What’s best about this scene is how we see Karen quietly staring at Lilimae, and then Lilimae’s reaction as Diana is freaking out. Pretty brilliant.
Everybody hated Diana. I don’t know if it was the actress or the character they hated more. I just always hated how she gave Karen such a hard time about.........EVERYTHING!
Julie Harris brought something extra special to "KL"! No Donna Mills or Nicolette Sheridan necessary as the multi talented Julie Harris with the help of the supporting series regulars carry these scenes brilliantly.
wow i didn't realize how lovely Laura is until watching this video, she was the perfect wife yet Richard took her for granted sleeping around with Abby from the minute she moved in.
I have misremembered this: I thought she ran over Joshua! It was Chip Roberts! Loved Lilimae!!! (: Julie Harris was amazing, which she had stayed on the show until the end!
Omg! These TV shows back then made all this look so fuckin real. The Haunting music! The Big Ford Ltd Hits This Guy Hard! Even BUSTED the Windshield with his Body! I've been in car crashes and hit my own Head into a Windshield. I gotta give it to the Stunt People. This definitely looks real!!! Just like when Bobby Ewing got Hit with the Big GM sedan ran him over! Car crashes are hard to walk away from!✝️
God why couldn't OG Lilimae have nailed Diana too with that big gorgeous LTD of hers? That car had more than enough room on that bumper and hood to take out both Chip AND that brat Diana.
That was mind blowing the acting was right to the point they rock it i forgot it was acting they were robbed from getting lots and lots of Emmys. 11:1811:18
Michael Sabatino played Chip. He played on daytime soaps Days Of Our Lives, Bold and the Beautiful, and Passions. Alec Baldwin played Val's half brother Joshua Rush. His character married Cathy (played by Lisa Hartman Black) and he later turned out to be a psycho.
I have all the seasons of Knots Landing. But, after Laura died, the show went down hill. Every once in while, I will watch the later episodes and I will think the later seasons can not bring Laura back, very sad.
I wished she was driving an Audi 5000. She could have blamed the faulty accelerator. However Ford had problems with the cruise control component causing the car to go,out of control.
The slow-mo and music really bring this scene to a rightful climax. Knots really knew how to be melodramatic!
WE NEED TV SHOWS LIKE THIS TODAY KNOTS LANDING WAS THE BEST SHOW ON TV CBS FIRST AND ONLY HIT SHOW

i never cared for diana either and hated the way she treated her mother
reGeNeRaTe X She was lucky she wasn't with Chip long enough for them to find her body somewhere.

Yes but she defended him to her family and refused to testify against him so he ended up walking away from murdering Ciji in cold blood.

The Karen of all Karen's
