When a young Benoit Heitz saw a friend's computer running Reason he had an epiphany: "His computer isn't better than my parent's computer. That means I could be making music." He started out not knowing the first thing about drums or music in general. Three years later he was touring the world as an international DJ. Surkin had us over to check out his wild yet danceable cut-up sample work.
I've been listening to surkin since his first two tracks. Man I remember when white knight just hit the blogs. Everyone was playing it in their mixes. Including I. Big fan of surkin. Wonderful video. It inspired me to want to really learn how to produce.
@IAmT8X Yes and cheerleaders aren't athletes... but Surkin is a music producer who DJs on tour; as are just about all successful electronic producers, I might add.
@bbsc34 the newest one. 2.2.1 with 64 bit and OS lion support.
reason is kind of like a girldfriend lol :D
@BeatsNRhyms We try to cater to the varied interests of our user community and the wider musical community. The schedule of videos has much more to do with artists availability than any grand plan to lean more electronic in the spring, and more hip hop in the summer schedule. We'll be doing more hip hop and soul stuff, for sure. Thanks for chiming in.
@BurgardRecords Actually not. I didn't do a full interview with Babu. Would have loved to but time didn't permit it.
@waynuuuuus I agree. I love his use of Neptune in this vid because it is extreme and it's using it with a device that's not just an audio track like you would do if you were just correcting vocals on an indie song or something. In my own use, I've run Neptune through all sorts of devices and I'm always amazed with the creative potential. Recently I've been making some Eventide Harmonizer style guitar combinators that are pretty cool.
@GIII777 That's called "I.N.Y.N" from Surkin's new album, USA.
@PropellerheadSW greatt!! i love the software propellerhead is making
@mightymuso I agree! We're working on scheduling one, actually. :)
This was great I've own reason for 2 years now and everyday I feel like there is so much more I need to learn.....great vid l love Neptune....lol

Surkin-"I hope you don't haff to poot soobtitles", (rewind). subtitles-"I hope you don't have to put subtitles." haha I love Surkin and Propellerhead
@PropellerheadSW awwww 3:
Reason is gonna make us better producers and engineers for some. My wife is jealous at Reason. I spend a lot of time with her. I met Reason before my wife. Lol! For real though, this program is the future!
@PropellerheadSW Let me guess the next artist in the series is DJ Babboo right?
What version of ReCycle is he using? Looks way nicer than the build I've got.
@PropellerheadSW oh yeh awesome, so what instruments does he play?
Great music!! Has any of surkins music been released on vinyl? Where can i find out more about him?
"Reason is kind of a girlfriend" NOTHING COULD BE MORE TRUE!
Really good video, Benoit seems like a really cool guy. Being new to music softwares, do u recommend Reason or Ableton, and secondly what are the key differences between the two? Cheers!
what is the name of the song where he work?
What was the first song in the background?
i love your videos buti would like to see more soul/hiphop/electronic hiphop artist interviews,i noticed latley its more about house and dance artist
Does anyone know what other french house/techno artists use reason (para one said he used to use reason in a recent interview re his new album) in fact i would love to see a list of edm producers who use reason ( i like to hear what talented people can do with software i love) does anyone know where i could find such information anywhere on line? i would be very grateful for any help : )
I have Reason 6 and I've been experimenting with Ableton Live 8. So the first think to know is that no DAW is better than any other DAW, they just have different work flows. Reason doesn't support VST plugins ie: Massive by NI or Ozone, but it runs faster on a weaker laptop and is more stable. In Reason 6.5 a new feature called Rack Extensions will allow many third parties to create instruments and effects for Reason, like VST plugins. Ableton supports VSTs and is a wonderful program.
brilliant video - i love surkins music!
would be great if you could get any more interviews with the french house guys who use reason (personally i think the internet is awash with people taking about hip hop production, ) the french house and electronica guys have had a HUGE influence on the scene, yet we rarely see production/ interviews with them. So yeah - please please if you are aware of any of the french edm guys who use reason - more please : ) ! (doesnt most of marble use reason?)
lol you actually PUT SUBtitles.
wooah
"i was 17 or 18 and just discovered house music"
