I have a warm spot for Ms. Fabares. (Long story long lol) In the mid 80's my sister was working at Abercrombie and Fitch when Shelley came in and my sister told her that she was a fan and wanted her autograph but the employees weren't allowed to ask celebs for autographes, ect. So Shelley graciously told my sister to give her her address, and she would send her one. So a few days later an envelope arrived with an 8 by 10 signed glossy from Shelley, which my sister displayed proudly till the day she died, I am so glad I watched this interview, You are hands down the best interviewer on any format I've seen in years, RIP Laurie

Such a top notch, superb interviewer. Love all his work. This show's cast was great, including Betz who grew-up about 12 miles from my area. Knowing Shelly was leaving, the Stones adopted a grade-school aged daughter played by Paul Peterson's real sister. Kinda odd cause she looked so much like Paul and was adopted. Shelly was great playing Ann Romano's egocentric partner on "One Day at a Time". Her aunt was also a regular playing Ann's mom. Johnny Angel is a great song.
I have always loved Shelley. I remember Nannette from many things but especially the Broadway musical, Mr. President. "The secret service makes me nervous". ❤
Though the Donna Reed Show started before my time, I vaguely remember seeing some later in the mid 60s. I remember seeing her "brother" more. Of course she was a fantastic actress in all she did. I loved her on Coach. Thank you John for another fantastic interview. I'm looking forward to seeing Paul's interview as well. Karl remembers these shows more than I did, as he is 9 years older. He remembers having a crush on her. lol. Her loved her in the movie with Elvis Presley I think it was Clambake.
I recently met you at the Hollywood Show. You told me you were hoping to get Shelley for your show and now here we are. Great interview. I love the backstory regarding "Johnny Angel". She mentioned the background singers on the song. I believe it was Darlene Love and the Blossoms. As Shelley mentioned they were studio singers who worked with Phil Spector, among others. The Blossoms were also part of the music TV show "Shindig!"
Hey, so glad you wrote in and followed up. I am as thrilled as you are it all worked out with having Shelley on my show! Also, cool to know those were the studio singers. I was wondering especially that tie in to Phil Spector. Johnny Angel is still a great song!!

What a great interview. Thanks. I vaguely remember Ed Sullivan once introduced the Supremes as "here they are,.. the girls"...LOL Johnny Angel is one of my all time favorite tunes. An absolute CLASSIC! In doing my old radio podcasts I featured her great song 'Lost Summer Love' and her excellent version of Sealed With A Kiss. Big fan Shelley. Those were the best times. :- )
I think that intro by Ed Sullivan was because the Supremes by that time had appeared on his show multiple times, and I’m sure he felt pride over their huge success which his show had assisted with along with probably an actual friendship with them - plus their immense popularity meant that millions of viewers already knew them too - led to him just introducing them as “the girls”.
She is such a adorable person my first crush when I was a kid never seen anything she was in and didn't give a quality performance not only a professional actress but a genuine wonderful human being ❤️

@@ThatsClassicTV She has kept that hair for a whopping 25 years since her liver transplant. That is impressive. A tall, 6 foot exotic-looking woman of Asian, African, and European descent with spiky pink hair, was reportedly the inspiration for that look that has since become a trademark of Shelley's.
I have always loved her since i was a very little girl from Donna Reed show and loved her in Elvis movies i know that she had a very serious illness glad she is doing well wonder why she likes those different types of colors in her hair love you Shelley from Sally in Wichita Falls Texas
Shelley is a wonderful person no doubt. Her is that color because after she had her illness and liver transplant she saw a woman in a hair salon with pink hair and decided she would do it too for herself. Her whole life someone else had decided how her hair should be.
Wonderful interview!! 💗 Love Shelley, and I can certainly relate to having a crush on James Darren. He’s been one of my favorites for forever! I can only imagine what it must have been like to sing and act with him. I would have fainted dead away, I’m sure. ☺️🥹
I knew no friends mother like DONNA REED... shelly a little too beautiful and graceful for a big sister Paul spot on and tortured as the kid brother , CARL BETTS quite the protype of a 1950s suburban dad ( my uncle was similar I'm 72 ) tall mannered white collar . remember this was golden age of b&w tv series. And this popular show stood above all other family sitcoms. DONNA REED seemed a goddess to an impressionable young man. oh IF She could only have been my real mom. God seemed cruel to have given her to shelly&Paul Peterson and not be my mom and dad.
I hope you have a part 2 where Shelley talks about her friendship with Annette and her movies with Elvis, do you know why she has different colors in her hair? It's a very interesting story
I don’t know why she has different colors in her hair, let me know. Also, I decided not to talk about Elvis as she has talked about him many times in other interviews and we had so much to cover. Not that I wouldn’t have love to have heard about her and Elvis😀
@@ThatsClassicTV When she was sick prior to her liver transplant, Fabares decided to try out a colorful new hairstyle. In her conversation with InnerVIEWS, she explained that she saw a woman leaving her salon with spiky hair dyed in multiple colors. She asked her hairstylist how it was done, and after he explained it, he asked if she wanted to try it out herself. Faberes thought, "This is the first time in my life since I was three years old-because that's when I started working-that no one can say to me, 'Oh, you can't do that' … It was almost hard to take in how liberating that was." She continued, "No one can tell me I can't do it and I'm dying, so if not now, when?" Fabares loved the style and has kept it to this day.
For those curious, the women Ms. Fabares mentioned whom Darlene Love sang backup with on "Johnny Angel" were her group, The Blossoms. Famous drummer Hal Blaine played on the track, as did the great bassist Carol Kaye and the wonderful Glen Campbell (who later became quite famous as a solo artist) on guitar. (They all played backup on numerous hit recordings, and as musicians were part of what later came to be known as the top backup talent, The Wrecking Crew.) The song was written by Lyn Duddy and Lee Pockriss.
She talked about a lot and some unfortunately don’t always come up. Just in case you missed it, there a second episode for this interview on my channel, enjoy!
James Darrin was on two episodes of The Donna Reed show, one being a singer who got the measles and had to stay with the Stones and the other is a later season playing a singer but Mary didn't know and they had a car accident and she goes out on a date with him unbeknownst to Mary
I have Seasons 1-5 of The Donna Reed Show, which are the only seasons available, but it ran for 8 seasons. Are there any plans to make Seasons 6-8 available anytime in the future?
In comparing the four 1950s family sitcom moms from YT interviews and reading I came up the ranking of the most like their TV roles to their real life off screen . Ranked from most like to least like : 1 Donna Reed 2 Barbara Billingsley 3 Jane Wyatt 4 Harriet Nelson .
I watched the interview with Billy Gray of FKB before this one with Miss Fabray . It stuck how me how she relates the off camera family like closeness of the four principles with Mr. Gray relationship off camera with his five main characters . It seems to that they were close and respectful as actors but not " family " close .
Tony Owen: "Intense kind of guy" - A guy who likes to go camping....and should...somewhere in the jungle... I hope Shelly and Paul see this and laughs...Re: Johnny Angel, a then unknown Glen Campbell played guitar on the recording. He had already been singing backup vocals with 2 other guys on several Rocky Nelson records.
Well Charlene, you are correct about no Elvis in the interview however watch the second episode of this interview and you will hear some amazing moments with Shelly and Annette and how she met Mike, enjoy. We talked a lot and time didn't permit for Elvis. Hope to maybe have her back.
What these movie stars don’t understand maybe they do is that the fans out here at Myers them just like she admires other famous movie stars and we’re just all struck at them and think that they’re just the most perfect people in the world and have no feelings like that at all

Wonderful interview!! 💗 Love Shelley, and I can certainly relate to having a crush on James Darren. He’s been one of my favorites for forever! I can only imagine what it must have been like to sing and act with him. I would have fainted dead away, I’m sure. ☺️🥹
I can believe it! James Darren definitely had it, so cool and women loved him😀
James Darren..Rest
Softly Sweet Soul ❤
@@Cynthia00007 it kills me I didn’t get the opportunity to interview him, class act all the way!
We love Shelley so much!! In 3 of the Elvis movies too!! ❤⭐🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Deborah, would love to have her back on to talk about Elvis😀
@@ThatsClassicTV Awesome!! I know she has lots of stories and info! ❤👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
@deborahmckay8451 Hopefully she will be back...
the donna reed show was one of the best casting. the children looked liked they could be their actual kids.
What is wild is that Shelley and Paul are still close😀
@@markr.devereux3385 Thanks for the insight Mark, a lot of fun to look at😀
I love your interviews!!! Very informative!!!
Diane, I really appreciate that, thank you! More to come...
i love shelley
She is a class act Joseph:)
@@terracelady Thanks a bunch, such an interesting and awesome quote!
very cool thank you thats classic
My pleasure Tony😀
A lot of young boys and men were in love with her…🇺🇸
Not a doubt about it😀
For those curious, the women Ms.
Wow, that’s some great information to know, thank you for sharing:)
Shelley was in a show in the 70's called the Brian Keith Show. I'm a collector and have most of the episodes of that series donated to me.
Hi, watch the second episode of this interview on my channel, Shelley talks about her time on the Brian Keith Show, enjoy!
@@ThatsClassicTV Ok, didn't know about it
My husband and Shelley are 10th cousins on her mother's side
Who would’ve ever dreamed she was shy you just never know what another person is going through
I know especially when she shines on the screen.
Paul Peterson repeated verbatim some of the same comments and so they must be genuine. I enjoyed this a lot.
Love hearing that, glad you enjoyed both interviews😀
I wish Shelley would have explained why she left One Day At A Time as her character brought a new dynamic to the show.
She talked about a lot and some unfortunately don’t always come up. Just in case you missed it, there a second episode for this interview on my channel, enjoy!
Shelly was on several episodes of Mork and Mindy too
Thanks Larry, I didn’t know that😀Be sure to check out the second episode of this interview as well!
James Darrin was on two episodes of The Donna Reed show, one being a singer who got the measles and had to stay with the Stones and the other is a later season playing a singer but Mary didn't know and they had a car accident and she goes out on a date with him unbeknownst to Mary
I love the breakdown of the two episodes with James Darren😀
I have Seasons 1-5 of The Donna Reed Show, which are the only seasons available, but it ran for 8 seasons. Are there any plans to make Seasons 6-8 available anytime in the future?
I wish I knew but who knows it could anything even music copyrights can stop a release of certain seasons.
It's so sad that only seasons 1-5 are available online, seasons 6-8 are owned by Sony so not available for streaming
Welcome to the business side of show business😩
In comparing the four 1950s family sitcom moms from YT interviews and reading I came up the ranking of the most like their TV roles to their real life off screen . Ranked from most like to least like : 1 Donna Reed 2 Barbara Billingsley 3 Jane Wyatt 4 Harriet Nelson .
That is pretty wild but also kinda fun to see.
❤
Glad you enjoyed it Mary Lee!
I watched the interview with Billy Gray of FKB before this one with Miss Fabray . It stuck how me how she relates the off camera family like closeness of the four principles with Mr. Gray relationship off camera with his five main characters . It seems to that they were close and respectful as actors but not " family " close .
I definitely agree😀
I found out a young Glen Campbell was the guitarist on Shelly's "Johnny Angel!"record.
Is that true? I have never heard that but I know Glenn was a studio musician on a lot of great records.
@@ThatsClassicTVyes it is.
I assume the three backup singers was the group The Blossoms with Darlene Love.
Thanks for sharing👍
She was funny in the show “One Day at a Time”
I think Shelley had a blast doing that role!
You should check out the second episode of the interview, I think you will enjoy it
@@ThatsClassicTV- will do. Thanks!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Enjoy both episodes Jill, Shelley is so interesting with her stories😀
Tony Owen: "Intense kind of guy" - A guy who likes to go camping....and should...somewhere in the jungle... I hope Shelly and Paul see this and laughs...Re: Johnny Angel, a then unknown Glen Campbell played guitar on the recording. He had already been singing backup vocals with 2 other guys on several Rocky Nelson records.
Love it, really interesting about Glenn Campbell😀
they had it easy compared to Patty Duke when Patty was doing the Patty Duke Show in Chelsea, NYC.
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
how to age gracefully ?? shelly fabres
Shelly is a class act😀
Nothing about working with Elvis? Friendship with Annette Funicello? TV career? Mike Farrell?
Well Charlene, you are correct about no Elvis in the interview however watch the second episode of this interview and you will hear some amazing moments with Shelly and Annette and how she met Mike, enjoy. We talked a lot and time didn't permit for Elvis. Hope to maybe have her back.
What these movie stars don’t understand maybe they do is that the fans out here at Myers them just like she admires other famous movie stars and we’re just all struck at them and think that they’re just the most perfect people in the world and have no feelings like that at all
I think they understand but for some stars it hard to realize they will never be just a normal person to most people.
Her voice was dubbed over 2 or 3 times bc her voice was weak, that's what they did in those days, even to her vest friend Annette
Thanks for the info, very interesting😀
She was a singer thanks to auto tuning.
Shelley talked about her singing and was quite humble in the interview:)
She seems like a wonderful person.. I really did not like the character on Donna reed and when she said nothing like her .. hey it is acting!
Shelley is wonderful and a great actress😀
Shelley is a lovely person, open and friendly, a real lady. Her episode of The Twilight Zone with the bikers, and the great Denver Pyle is a classic.
@@jeffsilverman6104 Awesome, love thinking about those episodes😀
