it took my bus about an hour to get to school and I was one of the first stops, so I had to wake up even earlier than most, and then costs got cut and my bus stop was further away and had to wake up even earlier to allow me time to walk to the bus not run. @der Jakob this grandma works 12 hour night shifts at a hospital.. in the winter I go to work at 600pm until.630 am. I sleep from 9 am until 5 pm. So in winter I go to work at dusk and it is dark when I get home. I use black out window coverings for sleep. I am old enough to remember when we did not change the clocks. It was wonderful and natural. I would love to have early morning light in the summer to garden before sleep and sit on the deck in the evening light. You young people do not know any better or differently.
how much the clock matches your so-called "natural" rhythm is highly subjective and generally dependent on where you are within your timezone and your proximity to a coastline. everyone's daylight schedule is different regardless of which option we choose. Nature wont be changing at all. if you need to locally adjust your work and school schedules to fit your natural clock then thats an issue that needs to be tackled at the local level anyway. personally I dont see how 4am to 7pm daylight hours during the summer would be considered more natural. either way, I think the most important thing is to stop shifting the clocks. I definitely prefer DST but either way, if we stop shifting the clocks we can then settle on a schedule that works for everyone locally, and if our local community needs to push for schedule changes because they decided on standard-time year round, then I guess we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

Bo-hoo. I guess you've never travelled. You adjust in a few days- seriously, it's call being an adult. And anyone who's med timetable is so tight that an hour makes that much of a difference, maybe you should discuss this with your doctor rather whining on the internet.
There is no law that says that a business can't open earlier or later if they want to. Same with schools. It's not like we are all automatons wired to the clock mechanisms. Picking a single time that doesn't change is enough. Arguing over which one is just silly. If anything, we should pick a single world time.
LMFAO Then we should just stay with standard time if it makes no difference. Is there or is there not medical evidence that changing sleep habits put stress not only on the mind but also on the body?
@@paultrombetta5168 That is the point. This is a debate about preference and Team standard time revolting. I prefer to have it lighter in the evening so I can go outside after my work. But that only works for me since I work 1st shift. I no doubt 3rd shifters would like more light in the morning. Ultimately it doesn’t matter.
Clocks are an abstraction and there is no reason why we can't change the start times for work and school. Regardless if Standard or Daylight Time, we can declare a different start and stop times. If using Daylight Time requires students to arrive at school at 7am and it's dark out, change their arrival time to 8am! The same with the start of work!
Right, but then why bother changing the clock to begin with? It would make more sense to leave the clocks where they are and let people adjust their schedules if they choose.
Well work won't change. If people can work 8-12 hours overnight, there is NO reason a person needs to wake up later. That just describes the personality of the person. And the outcome doesn't sound to good. Boss-"Oh,you can't make it because it's 6am? Tommy over here is on 9 hours and got 3 hours of work left until he gets off at 9am but you can't even wake up at 6am?" That's the shut down argument right there
@Mercy: It is already set that way with standard time. 8:00am start time for school during standard time means it is daylight out. If they make DST permanent that means school would have to start at 9:00am, which would mean parents would lose an hour of work every day, which would mean their income would go down which would mean they couldn't afford the needs of their family when they already struggle to meet those needs, which could result in families losing their homes or being evicted from the rental home. Businesses are not going to move the work day to a start time of 9:00am, neither are they going to keep the doors open an extra hour so employees can make up the hour they lost getting their kids to school at 9:00am when the sun is finally up.
Gotta say it was weird getting ready for school and it was still dark out back in the day. Walking to the bus stop was scary till I got there with the other kids
Americans always take a lot of time to change anything which is outdated. The US still can't adopt the metric system eventhough the world have a long time ago.
If we're going to get rid of the time change, how about getting rid of the unpleasant spring ahead time change instead of the good one where you get to sleep in an hour?
Everything she said just reinforced the reasons why DST is the time to stick to. Right now, winter sundowns before 5PM keep people from having any daylight hours apart from work times. If you can only see one hour of daylight per day, would you rather it be during your morning commute, or after you get home to enjoy it? Instead, just when DST could be helpful, we end it. Hello, vitamin D deficiencies, seasonal affective disorder, unkempt lawns and unfit bodies due to lack of outside exercise, all to drive home at the end of the day tired in the dark. The obvious answer to the early school times is, as she mentioned, shortening the length of the school days. Start later. If we know the modern lifestyle of sending children to school early in the AM is not best for them, why do we keep doing it? Sacrificing the health of the children for the convenience of adults is not a good enough excuse.
That is good news for business and politicians and bad news for people health as is well know and back up by research... just wondering if there was $ paid to senators or lobbying to pass such absurd bill.

Wells it’s about friggin time, I literally do not even wanna to go through another year of this till 2023. How is standard time better when you’re losing an hour or sunlight?
I don't understand the problem. I get up on Saturday morning and change all my clocks forward an hour. So at bedtime I've already adjusted to the new time and it doesn't affect me at all. Why are people not being told to do this?
@berserker406 correct That’s why you should change your clocks the day before you go to bed Go to bed according to the new time on the clock That’s what I do and it helps a lot especially when the clocks set 1 hour forward from 2am to 3am
Above all else. Having it get significantly darker during the colder seasons makes winter time kinda depressing. I’m willing to sacrifice one hour if it means we never have to do it again.
🙏😡It doesn’t matter! Just pick one and stop the changes and people will adjust. All the crap happens because of the fall back and spring forward….just pick one! 🙏😡💝
I'm very ready for this. DST was started in 1919 (with only 6 months and was extended to 8 months) as a way for us save energy, but Americans don't live on the same schedule as they did in 1919. We are a society that runs 24/7. People stay up longer and they're out more late at night, especially in larger cities. For those of us with seasonal depression, more daylight in the evening would be very beneficial.
@@thatpengman , if you have natural light in the evening, you don't need to burn as much electricity. Of course, this assumes that you get up around 7 a.m. If you have a long commute, or have to get up early for some other reason, you will just burn the energy on those dark mornings.

Be glad you don’t live in Alaska. In the summer the sun doesn’t set some nights and in the winter the sun doesn’t rise some mornings. Now THAT is really depressing!
Permanent daylight saving time means the sunsets are later in the day right? If so, that gets my vote - get to enjoy more of the day after work and no more commuting home in the dark.
It would be cumulative. Later sunrise and later sunset. So we will be dark at 8 am and fully bright at 10pm. Go back to being on standard time. Standard time is natural time.
I live in a state that is on a time zone boarder. And 1 hour literally makes no difference for the school children. I don’t see any statistics that my state has a higher death rate for school aged children because they get up an hour earlier than the next. And news flash, it’s still dark in the neighboring states when the bus comes. This is just people being contrary to personal preference. You want to bring an “expert” on your news station to influence our preferences than at least have the decency of showing your viewers the data that supports your case. It shouldn’t be too hard. Some states even support two time zones. Let’s not forget the students of Alaska. Should the one hour of sunlight they have be shifted so it lines up with the commute to school or commute home???!
So we lock our doors and windows when it’s dark out to keep safe, but then we push little Juan and Suzy out in the dark to walk to the bus stop and tell them it’s safe out there?? 🤔🤥🤭
If they do this it won't last long, because people will be mad about kids going to school in the pitch black for so long- it's the same thing that happened last time. Daylight savings time for part of the year works better than the alternative.
Permanent daylight savings time is INSANITY. It was tried one before, in the seventies. After people complained about their kids walking to school in the pitch black, it quickly went back to switching the clock. There are three options 1. Get rid if DST, which stinks, because we get early dark summer evenings 2. Keep DST year round, which stinks because we get late, dark winter mornings 3. Change the clock every 6 months, like we do now. I vote for three..losing one hour sleep is a VERY SMALL PRICE TO PAY for daylight summer evenings and no late dark winter mornings
@@vicepresidentmikepence889 or we could, you know, have a consistent time keeping practice and request that employers and schools adjust their schedules as needed in order to offer sane hours? the illusion that we are somehow changing time is the insanity. nature doesnt change, so why change the clocks?

Where I live, during standard time come Dec/Jan returning home in the dark is a regular experience for work, school, and other activities. The sun and your natural rhythm will be the same after a nominal adjustment for the last time. Nothing "healthier" about dark at 4p at all, EVER!!
Standard time isn’t better for me. It’s dark by the time I get home from my day program meetings for adults with Autism and medical appointments.
how much the clock matches your so-called "natural" rhythm is highly subjective and generally dependent on where you are within your timezone and your proximity to a coastline. everyone's daylight schedule is different regardless of which option we choose.

"People" don't get to choose, businesses and school boards choose.
Well work won't change. If people can work 8-12 hours overnight, there is NO reason a person needs to wake up later. That just describes the personality of the person. And the outcome doesn't sound to good.

@Mercy:
It is already set that way with standard time.
