My thoughts on the Meraki Espresso Machine! This thing packs tons of great features for the price and I can't wait for more people to experience it. What are your thoughts on it?
Sold! Ordering mine tomorrow on the indigogo campaign. I was torn between this and the Breville Oracle Jet. It seems like this one has a little bit better manual control, (I don’t mind a bit of automation. I think it’s a good mix.) and a much better steam wand. Looks like the full production units are shipping in January. Can’t wait! 😊
Hi fellow Coffee Nerd😉 Thanks for this no nonsense review! I also like that you mixed in the importance of using specialty coffee and to get that if possible at a local roaster. I couldn’t agree more. Oh and what an amazing machine.
All the features included in this machine are great. The RFID tech that allows your machine to set the preferred settings for brewing that specific espresso bean would be very valuable for someone wanting to up their espresso game. My only concern is the longevity of this machine. The touchscreen, the grinder, the included weighing scales for example. One of those breaks, there goes your workflow. I will still be watching out this machine. My sister enjoys her coffee, but as a busy mom for three boys she won’t have time to faff around to dial in a proper shot and I think she would be one of those potential users who could benefit from this machine.
@@Kbo513 thanks for the comment! I agree the longevity is yet to be determined, they are a new company and it’s got a lot of features which makes the possibility of a failure increase. I will say they seem to be very on top of improvements and listening to the coffee community. I don’t know what the warranty is but I can’t imagine there won’t be one. But to your point in a few years if something breaks where does that leave you…?
Their platform says 2 year warranty - if they are as responsive on that as they are to the social media (even non-influencers - I asked their instagram accounts and they responded in less than 2 hours!) it feels it should be a good experience.
@@robertebob they did mention it was something they were working on but there’s no timeline. I think that would be a great option since a lot of us have great grinders we’d rather use. I use this machine everyday if not multiple times a day and I’ve been using the Timemore 078S instead and getting some insanely good shots!
That's interesting, as the grinder (well the conical burrs) are a deal breaker for me. I like super high clarity and consider the DF64 Gen 2 + SSP Multipurpose burrs to be pretty end game for my personal tastes.
@ yeah I think it’s a mixed bag on how people feel about the grinder. It does great for more traditional stuff, but if your hunting extreme clarity and acidity there not going to provide that for you. I do know they are working on a grinder less version so that will be nice!
Great review which thoroughly covered all aspects of its use and capability. Does it come with an app? A large screen like the kafamasino and Decent and iPad app would be great.
@@asmith2886 thank you! Yes I agree a larger screen would be nice, but honestly while using the machine the thought never really crossed my mind. I think the UI is laid out pretty well and not cluttered, so even with a small screen it’s pretty easy to read and use, but I can definitely see the benefits of a bigger one. As far as an app goes at the moment there isn’t one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that came along at some point.
Nice review 😊 Did you miss an actual physical start and stop button on the grinder ? And if they change the insert in the drip tray to bars going in the opposite direction than the top one - then maybe leftover milk would pass through and not get stuck ? Would it have been better if the water tank was located and accessible from the front like it is on the MARO model 1? Or at least detachable? I like that they changed the handles and the station to wood - nice touch. Again thanks for the review 🙂
Hi Aaron, question. I just watched your review of the DF64 Gen 2. Would you prefer this over a X54 at the same price point? I would say im a tiny bit more filter oriented. Plan to buy some 3D printed bellows for the X54 for the retention.
I don't know what You mean by saying e61 style grouphead as it's completely different and has nothing in common with it. Meraki uses it's own design and electrically heated grouphead. The only thing that will work from e61will be the 58mm coffe filter baskets in Meraki portafilter.
@@Artur19760512 what I mean is that their group head uses locking tabs on the portafilter in the same position as the e61 group heads, so the style is similar but I didn’t say it was the same. I specifically mentioned that e61 portafilters won’t fit and I did talk about the group head heater.

The built-in and connected scales are genius. I really hope these catch on onto other espresso machines and grinders!

If you're making only lattes, would you notice a difference using something like the DF64 instead of this inbuilt grinder?
@@garrettkarow5924 probably not a huge difference since your cutting it with milk.
Will the Porta filter it comes with hold 20 g to do a 20 g in and 40 g out shot?
@@skalimit12 yes, it fits all the standard style 58mm portafilter baskets I’ve tried, and I have several that are 20g.

How do I know I might get a slot to get this machine
@@jacobamachee4634 you can go to their IndieGoGo link in the description and back it if you want.
I don't doubt that's solid, but I'd never buy a unit with the grinder built in.
@@icowrich I can totally understand that! Good news is I believe they might be doing a version without the grinder at some point.
I'd definitely be interested in one without a grinder....
If that little screen ever breaks or fails for some reason, no more coffee for you!
