      @jayhoovy How do you prevent a big indirect competitor like Shopify from creating a product that does what you do? Sort of like how FB will copy the hottest trend (tiktok) and implement features in IG to mirror it? Or how Amazon makes it own version of popular products on Amazon marketplace?

    That’s so true,, finding a problem that you truly care about matters most.. the ideal type of startup is its founder is actually solving his own problems that he’s been painful for months or even years, so he basically knows the baseline of the problem, and how much efforts and time being spent on without expected result. He himself is the ICP.

    • @pengyang4296
      @pengyang4296 4 місяці тому

      Some of founders I knew never solve their own problems, which’s fine.. but they also don’t have intuitive thoughts on those problems he’s about to solve, which’s bad then.. so most of them everyday think hard to figure out the solution that solves problem he imagined but doesn’t actually exist within customers.

    John you make outstanding videos. I love your channel so much. I am a psychologist and I really want to say that a lot of what you talk about can transfer to so many areas of people and their lives/careers!! You rock!! I can see you are a person of huge integrity and that means so much in a human being. In fact it's everything. I recently watched a video with your talking to Graham and wow it was outstanding! Have a fabulous day!! Cheers!! 🙂

      Hey Christine - truly thank you so much for your kind words - I feel very seen by your comment. I try my best every day to live up to the integrity and values my mom instilled in me from a young age -- it's a difficult journey as things scale and more and more people throw things my way -- but it's the one I want to stay anchored to.
      And by the way, I wholeheartedly agree with your thought that the "entrepreneur's journey" is so applicable to so many other kinds of lives -- I think it's really just a medium to explore 1) who we are as people and 2) how we want to express ourselves and show up for others.
      Thanks again for tuning in!

    [1:30] 💡 Ideation: Starting with a problem you deeply care about leads to more successful startup ideas, avoiding the pitfalls of passionless ventures like Google Glass.
    [5:15] 🎯 How To Land Your First Customers: Use the Dual Track method to validate your startup idea by engaging potential customers directly, turning their feedback into your business concept.
    [7:55] 💼 How To Get Your Business Off The Ground: Start with little to no money by serviceifying your idea, prototyping it, or just building it scrappily as exemplified by DoorDash and Airbnb.
    [12:41] 🚀 Building Your MVP: Focus on launching your Minimum Viable Product (MVP) quickly, refining based on early user feedback to avoid over-engineering your initial product.

    As a creator/creative now diving into the world of tech startups, this video has been invaluable as I'm creating my first venture. Thank you John for mapping this out! I actually applied to work at STAN last year, and even though I got rejected, it was a great process being able to learn from that... almost believe it was meant to be. Learning a lot from your content, keep it up!
    I'd love to hear more about becoming the best CEO (people manager) and finding the balance between pushing for goals quickly while also not being perceived as highly ignorant to letting people live their lives. Thanks John!

    Hey Love, After 40 years of experience of online shopping and talking to customer service as the entry point of each brand to see hpw they handle refunds I can't stress enough how important an impeccable customer support and service team is to make the client feel like they're right even if they aren't and to agree to refund first and ask questions later. I'm always angry when someone asks me why I needed to cancel if I had to and see it as too personal.a question that's intrusive however I'm very happy to tell them the same answer after the money is back in my bank account in less than 2 days. ❤ You're welcome. Hope you don't have to ever issue a refund and I'm.sure you don't. Thank you for your work. Looking forward to Stan in India that would convert automatically to INR.

      @@jayhoovy It would be great to hear you talk more about the angel investing phase since that is what many of us are facing first and how you think about cap table management in that context, ie what number of smaller investors to bring on, their terms etc. Also, how did you think about valuation and check size at this stage.
      Hearing more about growth hacks such as affiliate rev sharing would also be valuable.
      But no stress, talk about it when you feel keen to. Make sure to get enough down time, and make sure to take the time to enjoy the ride.

    Thanks for the great vid! Been following for quite a while and love your journey with Stan!
    Hope you can provide some insights on my current situation:
    This might sound counter intuitive, but I really want to start my own company, but I am unsure why I can't come up with a problem to solve?
    I currently work at a seed stage B2B SaaS company backed by prominent VCs and I get really cool insights on how to run a start-up and inspires me to start my own. However, I just simply can't think of a problem to solve? People tell me they have tons of things to solve but no time to do so. I try and think about my pain points at work, our customer's, but nothing has ignited me to start yet. Is it simply to "just wait" until it comes? Rather than try to find it?

    • @jayhoovy
      @jayhoovy  10 місяців тому +1

      It's a dual process of just wait (don't force it) - but also just keep iterating. You need to trust the creative process (it takes time). What are you passionate about? Follow that trail.
