    Why boil it? It would remove the good stuff that gets you high. They must also add lime to the water otherwise it wouldn't turn red like that.

    When I worked in Vietnam I remember many people in the country side used to have teeth stained that color from chewing betelnut because it somehow gives you a mild high, kinda like chewing cocoa leaves in the high altitudes of South America. Interesting process though, that stone over looks like it has to be hundreds of years old. It looks carved from one piece too which would’ve taken a great stonework expert.

      You must know many people are addicted to chewing tobacco, coca leaves, smoking, drinking coffee etc.
      Similarly, many people are addicted to chewing betel nut. It is further cut or crushed into smaller pieces, some companies also add various flavours to it which people like to chew. It is also used for various cultural ceremony however, it is bad for health and can cause mouth cancer.

      @@Me-rq1qd it is one of the main reasons for Oral Cancers in India/Indonesia/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka/ Papa New Guinea. Way back in 2003 itself a WHO sponsored CANCER RESEARCH listed it as extremely carcinogenic whether it is chewed along with Tobacco or not. There you go mate. Some facts for you. It's a psychoactive drug

    I think this is the secret ingredient of cocoa cola just adding sweetener and carbonating it.
    This is just my theory because when I tasted coco cola after carbon had gone it reminded me of sweet bettle nut.

      Use for natural dyeing clothes and tanning leather. It also can be used as an adhesive in ply board manufacture . It use of n is as a safe food coloring agent.
      But in Bangladesh people also eat with Betel Leaf .

      aishwarya gowdat it has the pigment in it. Like if you put it in your mouth and chew it’ll become all red the colour becomes more visible when dissolved as in the nut it looks dark red

    In the northeastern part of India we do this process but also eat it raw, fermented, dried. Raw ones give the most high especially in hilly areas, so they prefer raw ones. Fermented ones are stinky and loved by old people with weak teeth.

      No animal blood goes grey brown after cooking...it's the betel nut colour during processing.

      Mix it with lime powder when chewing the nut raw, makes a chemical reaction that gets you more high and turns red.
      They must add lime to the water when boiling. I don't know why they boil it this way it must strip it of the good stuff that gets you high

    What are these liquid coloring material? I want to produce areca nut like yours. I'm from indonesia. Is the process like this?
    Areca nut is peeled, after peeling it, it doesn't need to be dried in the sun. Then, the peeled betel nut, boiled with a mixture of red liquid, then dried in the sun. Is this the correct way processing the areca nut? Or, after peeling the betel nuts, drying it half dry, then boiling it? Please help with the explanation, thank you. For how long it shoul be boiled?

      It is directly boiled and sun dried up to 5 to 9 days depending upon sunlight
      No added colours
