It's not exactly a "separate" immune system. Your eyes (and the seminary vesicles actually) are considered immune privileged. One thing I wish I didn't know was that general anaesthetic (propofol) wasn't invented until the 1970s. Before then, the best they could do was wipe your memory with ketanine etc. People were fully awake and screaming/writhing in pain for stuff (such as child birth) but be on massive doses of drugs so they wouldn't remember when they sobered up.... but would the trauma be there subconsciously?
