    Great. I'm going to patch the silly amount of scupper holes on your Pike kayak. I've noticed the new version doesn't have them.

      When a whitewater company builds a flatwater boat is it really a surprise that we added drain holes? Glad the video was helpful.

    Seems so odd that a person would wait for the glue to "dry" before assembling the parts. Do you really mean DRY? Or do you mean more like "tacky", or "thick"? Something like that? Also wondering if heat can be applied to "flow" the glue, esp perhaps, next year when maybe the patch isn't holding as well and "re-flowing" the glue might fix it? Thanks...

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. You're correct that the glue will be tacky not dry in between coats and before the patch is applied. We often use the knuckle test here. You stick your knuckle (of a gloved hand) to the glue. If the glove sticks the glue is ready, if the glove slides around on wet glue you need to wait longer. If it doesn't stick you waited too long and need to apply another coat of glue. You can use heat to remove a patch but using it to re-stick a patch that has come loose probably wont work. In that case your best to remove the patch and reapply with fresh glue.

    thanks for the video it helped ..... would you recommend a second larger patch after the first patch has cured for spreading the stress over a longer run of pvc ?

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the question. A second patch is definitely an option. They're typically used on high wear areas like the bottom of a boat. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

    The hole in my pontoon is the size of a quarter. How do I apply glue so that it won't stick to the surface behind the hole. Do I apply the glue in a doughnut shape leaving the immediate hole area clean?

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  3 роки тому

      Hi Gary, You'll want to avoid getting glue on the inside of your tube if possible. One option is to use Tear-Aid on the inside of the tube to hold everything in place while you apply the adhesive. If that isn't possible you'll just have to be careful when brushing on the glue.

    1st issue is I'm restoring a Scadden Inflatable Kick Boat, all the components (Oarlocks, Oar Storage Clips & Footbar holders), I presume were added to the boat by Scadden after they received it from the boat manufacturer were loose and falling off! I used Acetone to clean those components and they still have a tackiness to the touch, which I presume to be residual adhesive, seem no amount of cleaning gets rid of that tackiness. Can I apply Clifton or Stabond adhesives to that tacky surface?
    2nd issue is the previous owner used an unknown adhesive to add Scotty Rod Holders, when they were removed a hard crackled appearing adhesive remained so far Acetone seems to barely affect it. I live in California where M.E.K. is outlawed & unavailable. Any suggestions?

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  Рік тому

      Yes, applying Clifton or Stabond to that tacky surface will work for you. Unfortunately, MEK substitutes do not often work well. The best suggestion besides MEK is going with a stronger acetone.

    Is Aquaseal good or Airhead Vinyl repair ?

    • @NRSWEB

      Hi Nicolas, Thanks for your question. Aquaseal and TearAide tape are both great options when you're on the river. I've never tried Airhead but it might also work. If the damage is significant enough the type of repair shown in the video maybe required. Its always a good idea to bring the supplies from the video, just in case.

    I haven’t found anything that says which side of the patch faces outward, the glossy textured side? Or the smooth dull side? Logic tells me glossy side out, correct?

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your question. Both sides of the fabric are the same material. The only difference is from the manufacturing process. So you'll have a succesfull patch no water what side you use. We tell people to match the texture with the rest of the boat.

      Hello Max, All of the adhesives from this video can be purchased from nrs.com. The one exception is Vynabond that is no longer made. HH66 is the replacment for Vynabond that is also avalible at nrs.com. Shipping adhesives can be difficult because they're flamable. That could be the reason amazon isn't selling them. • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  2 роки тому

      HH-66 works great for accessories such as dry bags and small outfitting projects. For permanent repairs we recommend a two part PVC adhesive with a cure accelerator for the best results. Clifton PVC Adhesive and Clifton ACC 4844 Accelerator work great!

      You can but you'll need to use Stabond adhesive. Its better to use the correct handles and d-rings for your boat but if that isn't an option this will work.

    I see that the raft is not full of air but somewhat flaccid. I thought it would want to be firm. I guess if it is tight because it is full of air, the surface could be stretched slightly whereas the patch is not. I will deflate slightly before applying patch. Thanks for the info.

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  3 роки тому

      Hi Meg. The repair in this video was done on a Urethane IK thwart. That material is very stiff and the fact the thwart so small it looks like there is some air in the chamber but its actually totally deflated. When doing repairs like this you don't want any air inside and you want the area being repair over a flat hard surface so that you can get adequate pressure when you roll the patch. let us know if you have any other questions.

    • @mckenziekeith7434
      @mckenziekeith7434 2 роки тому

      Depending on the size of the hole, it could be difficult to keep the pontoon inflated while patching it. You may have no choice but to do it flaccid. Also, maybe the air bubbling into the patch area will interfere with proper adhesion of the patch?

    Can this same process be used to patch the bladder?

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  2 роки тому

      It can be used for a bladder, provided that you have the correct patching material. Most people use Tear Aid to patch bladders. Tear Aid is fast and super easy, and because its protected by the outer shell its basically a permanent fix.

    Slow leak in one chamber. I could NEVER find the offensive location. No bubbles. No sound (even using a stethoscope). No fix. Just a slow deflation over a 3-hour period. So very frustrating. But the video was good!

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  3 роки тому +1

      If your Zodiac is PVC, then HH66 would work but it wouldn't be the first choice. One of the Clifton adhesives or Stabond would be a better option. PVC is a difficult material to glue so using a quality adhesive will be your best bet to insure you get a lasting repair.

    • @NRSWEB
      @NRSWEB  4 роки тому

      Hi Rebeca, They're different adhesives but there is some overlap between the two. Clifton is a stronger adhesive and is typically used on rafts and thicker material. HH66 is typically used on thinner vinyl material. If you have specific questions give us a call at 877-677-4327.
