BERNAL, QUERÉTARO - Hola amigos and welcome back to Mexico! Today we are leaving Querétaro for the day heading east to the small Pueblo Magico (Magic Town) of Bernal, well known for it's colourful, colonial architecture and Peña de Bernal (Rock of Bernal) which not only is one of the 13 Wonders of Mexico but also the TALLEST monolith in the world!
It's also Cinco de Mayo (May 5th), which, although more celebrated in the US, still sees some activity in terms of parades and celebrations.
So get ready to check out Bernal, climb the monolith, learn about the state of Querétaro and sample some food native to the area! Bernal has to be one of my favourite places in Mexico, a MUST if you a planning a Mexico vacation in 2019!
MUSIC - (all Epidemic Sound)
"Nothing is Lost" - Andreas Ericson (intro & final montage)
"Scintilla" - David Celeste (walking into Bernal and up the monolith)
"Bridges of Hope" - Rannar Sillard (climbing the monolith)

¡¡Qué lindo vídeo, David!! ❤️💙🧡
Gracias Paula!
Hola. Como siempre, haces un trabajo impresionante. Voy a extrañar cuando ya no hables de algún lugar de México. Te felicito y expreso mi admiración a tu profesionalismo.
Thats why that towns are called "Pueblos Magicos (magic towns) they are not just a gem 💎 they put us in a great mood! 💗🇲🇽
You conquered the monolith ! I was jolted watching this new discover. I never knew this dreamlike place existed. I wish there were more youtube like you Pal.
Thanks man! I didn't know about it either until a few weeks ago. Right up there with Real de Catorce!
David, i really respect your motivations and i admire them. you are those kind of people with facinating life because you look living each day in a different way. Thank you for your videos.
Thanks man!
Hello David, excellent video, thanks for visiting my country.
Hola David, I enjoyed the video. Thank you for posting!
Thanks David for this video, you have shown a very different side to Mexico and all the hard work you have done making this video. Best way to start a Sunday morning in NZ, Mex video with my coffee.
Awesome man, I want to come back to NZ, but it's too goddamn expensive these days! Hope you're good!
@@davidostrowski679 let me know if you are coming back to NZ in future, may have a plan .... mmmmmwwwwahahahahahaha
Bernal is one of my very favorite places in Mexico!
Brillant intro David! I had the best "gorditas" ever in Peñón de Bernal, I would go back just for that alone.
Hi there! Nice video. It felt very honest. It seems you needed that climb to get reenergized and change your perspective. I don't know what kind of dance that was. It felt like a very local version of 5 May festivities. It was strange. Uhm, you answered a question I had about you for long: why you travel the world alone, without a companion, without attaching to anything? In this video you finally answered that question. I respect your sincerity and braveness. It's not easy at all to keep honest to your ideals and live by your own in total freedom but also totally responsible for your life. That takes courage. I am 46 now. I always wanted to get to know the world like you, like a nomad. I am not old but I am not that youg either. I live a regular life with a job from 8 to 5 and many times I wondered how my life would be if I had the courage to be a nomad: well, I only need to watch your videos to get some flavour about how modern nomadic life is. I find your life inspirational to some degree. Warm congrats for that. Before you leave Queretaro state,I possible try to the town of Jalpan de Serra and the Franciscan Missions of the 18th Century built up there in the Queretaro Sierra. If you like colonial colorful architecture those missions will blow your mind. And they are World Heritage sites by UN, by the way. Good luck. Cheers
Congrats David, it looked to me like a real accomplishent onyour part, the Bernal rock is quite a monolith.
Love this video! Thank you for taking us to places less travelled. Bernal and Queretero are high on our list for our Mexico trip next winter.
Thanks also for the shout out to Western Canada. I googled largest monoliths - The Chief in Squamish, British Columbia (about 1 hour north of Vancouver) is on the list. The Chef is a great hike. There are 3 peaks, all with outstanding views of ocean and mountains.
Dang, this is a great video! Your comments, editing, music... I want to be as good as you. Love the scene of a couple seconds where you're bracing against the wind. I feel inspired. I feel proud. Tears in my eyes at times.
Haha thanks man! I think I was saying something like "I'm in the middle of a mini tornado!" during that shot lol
Wow, Bernal is beautiful. Thank you.
You're welcome man
"I don't know what this is. I thought it was a mini chicken maybe," says David as he flips over a patita de puerco!! I almost died laughing!!! Besides there being part of a ham hock on the plate there was also cactus. It was underneath the enchiladas. Fantastic video. As always, well done.
Yes i thought it was cactus! Patita de puerco! I learnt something new! Gracias! I didn't eat it jaja
Simply amazing! Thank you!
De nada Pam! My leg muscles are still hurting!
@@davidostrowski679 I bet you have muscles hurt that never have before! I was surprised how many people were dressed in jean, shirt and sweater.
@@pamdleve haha classic mexico. When I was Merida in 100F temperatures, men still wore jeans!
¡Excelente video!
Gracias!
Thanks for sharing this amazing places of Mexico God bless you friend
Hola como siempre bien interesantes tus vlogs 👍👍👍
like always, great video David.
Hello David another great video men!!!
Thanks for that. I could never make it up there.
awesome Video....you are amazing on describing what you see!
Your videos are fantastic,
Thanks man much appreciated!
Excelente video David, visita los viñedos la Redonda y cavas Freixenet, es maravilloso Bernal.
Loved your video David, thanks for sharing your awesome experience! Pena de Bernal will surely be part of my Mexico itinerary. BTW, I noticed the monolith has a very large resemblance to the Devil's Tower monolith in Wyoming USA.
You're welcome! I was also thinking of Devil's Tower in Wyoming but I couldn't remember the name of it!
Awesome video ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks man 😜
I was just in Mexico for Cinco and you definitely have to make your own celebration. There wasn't a single party or festival. it's like they didn't care. Apparently the day is glorified in the US and very Americanized
Hola saludos dede cancun
Hola Roberto!
Saludos DAVID!
Hola Jose!
Energy charging rock!
Hola amigo. Gracias por el video. 😉😊
De nada amigo
Bloody Hell, David - are you stuffing you face again!
Just kidding. I don't blame you 😉
Provecho, amigo.
That place, like so many other places in Mexico, is magnificent. And you're not completely out of shape. Muy bien.
Pena de Bernal is a 1300 ft monolith, one of the largest in the world according to wikipedia
David una pregunta, ya no estaras mas en mexico? Saludos.

Those feather crowns are their own invention. It wasn't like that before the Spanish arrived. In fact, most of those feathers are from Asia, from Chinese pheasant, that has absolutely nothing to do with the Americas and Mesoamerica. The same happens with the poor Apache. They never wore feather crowns. It was the Sioux, far far away from the Apache country.
Did you get to see Elijah Wood?
Why would I lol
The church thingy is actually a family chapel where people put their cremated dead and honor them on the Day of the Dead. I believe the tradition is protected by UNESCO.
