- This week, FIFA World Champions Argentina are playing Australia in Beijing. Before that match took place, I got to go inside the brand new Beijing Workers' Stadium and explore!
This is possibly one of the best, newly built football stadiums in the world, and it only took 2 YEARS!
2 YEARS! Unbelievable. It's a stunning ground, and it's a vast improvement on the old stadium in terms of allowing spectators to get closer to the action.
ALSO, I had the amazing opportunity to leave Lionel Messi a message!
Let me know what you think about this stadium in the comments section below. I love it. Hopefully, it'll be full most home games. 68,000 is certainly a large capacity; much bigger than many Premier League sides.
Thanks for watching, stay safe and remember to look after one another.

Wow, that’s beyond world-class!! Fantastic China🎉
I'll look forward to visit it as I love football 😁
Great to hear it will be connected to the subway! Politicians need to understand that adding more lanes to a highway will NOT solve traffic but will simply make it worse. So building transit is the solution! The design of the new Workers' Stadium reminds me a lot of Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium or formerly known as the Central Lenin Stadium. It was the main venue of the 1980 Summer Olympics and just like the old Workers' Stadium, it was once all open with no roof. After the USSR was dissolved, it was privatized, and it got a renovation. But instead of demolishing the whole thing, they opted to keep the design and add a giant roof and decreased the capacity.
We have a pretty impressive stadium ourselves called the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium. It's famous for being the venue where our iconic Arirang Mass Games take place, which has the Guinness World Record for the largest gymnastic display! It opened back in 1989 and between then and 2020, it was the largest stadium in the world with a capacity of 114,000!
Great great great 👍👍👍 cool baby 😊
Definitely looks like a stadium you'd picture in Europe! So state of the art! Kudos to China for finally doing a big transformation to that place! The old Workers' Stadium played host to some 2008 Summer Olympics events too as it hosted the football quarterfinals and semi-finals, and the women's gold medal final. It was also gonna host the first ever NFL (American football) game in China called the China Bowl in August 2007 to kick off the one-year countdown to the Olympics, but the NFL decided to focus on the International Series which initially took place at Wembley Stadium instead (and have since expanded to include Mexico and Germany) and so they canceled the China Bowl in April of that year.
The old Workers' Stadium was also included as the main venue of the 2008 Summer Olympics in their bid back in 2001, but of course, they opted to build the majestic National Stadium/Bird's Nest instead for the main venue and I'm glad they did because she is a beaut! The Bird's Nest remains my favorite stadium because it's just so unique. Despite the name Bird's Nest, for those who don't know it's a combination of the crackle glazed pottery that is local to Beijing, and the heavily veined Chinese scholar stones. This inspiration shows just how passionate the Chinese are with their history and culture. And while not being a bird's nest, Li Xinggang said it's still a compliment as eating bird's nest is something for special occasions.
Apparently you can walk along the top of the Bird's Nest. I've never done it but I'd love to try. However, watching football at the Bird's Nest is also not great, same problem as the old Workers' Stadium. Fans are too far away from the match. This new Workers' Stadium is so perfect for football! Very big though, I hope they can fill it for most home matches.
Stu is handsome 😊
Thanks Stu for introducing this brand new football stadium.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching
classic style stadium with football design
Wow! In-and-out that place quite often when I was young, very young. haven't been there for a looooong time though, lately. Simply WOW!
Huge and beautiful !
Amazing
1983看过工体的新星音乐会,包括苏小明等,那会儿才十岁。后来去过几次看足球赛。如今的工人体育馆原地换了一栋新建筑,感慨自己老了
It's uncanny how you always seem to have access to the most amazing locations! Thanks for doing this!
Thank you for watching!
Fantastic Content! Stu!
Thanks Jenny! Did you see the young lad who ran onto the pitch and gave Messi a hug?
@@TravelinChina We in Australia have seen no vision of this game at all, very strange
This is a world class football stadium, iconic
👍👏👏👏👏👏
绿色蛮好看的
❤
1:50 2:10 2:34 For people who have acrophobia, I don't know how they are able to manage to sit there or walk up and down the aisle especially when the stadium is not fully packed.
This is pretty steep! Not as steep as the Ajax stadium in the Netherlands... That's the steepest I've ever been to. But you're right, if you have trouble with heights, probably best to sit in the lower level.
Wow, great video 👍
Thank you!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
:)
Could imagine your dad would love to be there right now watching the match.
We lost 2-0 and Messi kicked the 1st Goal
The stadium looks huge.
It is!
Nice stadium. It's amazing design
I fully agree. Stunning design inside and out.
👍👍👍❤❤❤
I watched a few matches at the Gong Ti in 2009 when they won it, and 2010.
After that I moved out of Beijing but the matches were always live on BTV.
Since I've been married I spend more time here in Changchun so I can't follow it so closely.
Great to see the new stadium. Hopefully they'll have a decent team to play in it.
我想去👏🥰👍
Loves to Situ
Thanks for letting more people know Beijing Guoan FC. :)
My pleasure!
Amazing stadium.
Hi Stu,
This is don't be Messy. Stop leaving rubbish behind. Take your rubbish home with you. Definitely not going to be a mate with one who's so messy.
Very crossed with your messy pass.
Signed - Don't be Messy.
After the tour, you don’t need to got to gym today
Part of the stadium is dark, spooky creepy, scary and haunted. Woo.......... 👻👻👻👻
Wouldn't it be absolutely smashing if Wolves would play a pre-season friendly here next season? I'd love to see Bob and Heather in the box with you
It absolutely would be, but unfortunately Wolves are going to South Korea instead.
Chinese athletes can be top or rather competetive in many sports, as long as we don't mention the men's football team, pffff.
Don't loose hope. 👍
Same design stadium rabat Morocco was Olympic stadium the Demolish now the building new one 🇲🇦
If every Brit were like you, UK would be growing economically by at least 3.5%. But it is declining by at least 2%.
Did you watch that football match ?
龟安
That stadium looks awesome! I wonder how cool the stadium food will be. If they sold something like Chinese donkey burgers, then I think that both local and international attendees would be really happy~
Unfortunately, no donkey burgers on sale. I saw signs for hotdogs :(
肉夹馍也行啊
In china they won't be doing any woke political stuff in any stadiums here,as u probably enjoy sodomy Bataan, keep your LGBT flag at home
Dankey huo shao only in hejian , hebeijing province , not something “whole Chinese “thing
The overall construction slowed down a bit due to the pandemic, it is therefore the main stadium completed while commercials attached are needed to catch up. This definitely is the home for all Guoan funs.
I am writing this piece while Argentina is taking on Australian Team.
Sometimes I find your actions is a bit more likely same as Mr.Bean 😅😅😅😊😊😊. Stadium 🏟️ is great 👍🎉.
Thanks! I think 😃
让我想起了,阿联酋世界杯,以后谁都不准说日本人热爱环保,看看日本核污水排海,我会用我的鞋底亲你的脸

国安国安,北京国安!
浪费公帑,耻辱的中国足球。
你算个什么东西
it's interesting that china has the top stadiums and the bottom national football team in the world at the same time.
Oof
😀🙏
