Yeah, it's like he is saying ( hey guys check out this shit I just made. Check it out. Then at the end it's like, (. See, see, pretty fuckin cool huh.)
I think he also makes a weird clicking sound with his mouth. That means he is pleased with his performance. Sometimes he gives a half ok hand gesture if he messed up a little.
I really really like this one! I'll be honest with you man, with all the "Lars Ulrich versions" "Nicko Mcbrain Versions", "Mike Portnoy" versions etc, i love em all, but i would actually like to see some "Josh Steffen" versions and see what twists you could put on some songs like this one! Just a thought, once again though awesome job man!
+emperoring112 I'm glad to see so many people wanting more of these "kind of" drum covers! I have more drumless metallica songs and considered speeding some up, specifically from the first 2 albums, and freestylin over them.
+Josh Steffen Awe man, you could totally do it! I think it's a great idea! I think it's clear you're already a phenomenal drummer, I like these cause we get to see more of your creative side as a dummer which I think is totally badass! I think you should do it!
I'm very impressed with this cover, and I can't stop listening to it. I appreciated the original, but the way your drums enhance the song is incredible. you have definitly got a gift. you keep pounding on those drums, and ill gladly keep listening. I'm seriously amazed.
Josh is gonna keep effing around here and end up being like Robert Trujillo. Who better to better to become part of a band than a big fan of the band. That ending (plus the entire song as well) had stage presence all over it....with the nice acknowledgement of the crowd enjoying the ass-kickery they just watched. Lol...I'm half serious here....Josh you effing rock brotha!!!
This has to be my favorite video of yours. This is my favorite Metallica song and you managed to make it even better. Thank you for doing what you do, Josh.
I have to admit that you are the only person who does these "drum covers" that I actually enjoy. You are really good and have a very enjoyable style. Keep up the good work!!!
This was really awesome. I forgot what the song sounded like live with out a china ride lol. Also I bet if James heard this he would say "so thats what it sounds like in time" ha.
Man, I really like watching you playing this song. I loved other Disposable covers of yours but this one is something different. I hit the like button after that killing part starts at 0:39. Such a great redo that I couldn't ever guess. Please continue this ''kind of drum cover'' stuff ;)
OK! I get it now! The fill just after "Back To The Front" seems so simple now...now that I slowed the playing speed down to 0.50. He's playing a mix of tom and double-kick to complete the fill. GOT IT!
@@joshsteffen OK. Thank you so much for replying. That fill has always stumped me no end, even more so than those on "Dyers' Eve", where it's both speed AND fills.
Man... I absolutely love your style and enthusiasm. If I can ever get another set of drums, I really hope one day I could have just 1/4 of your talent. You just make shit look too easy. Awesome job bro!
This is what Lars could sound like if he practised enough, I'm not slating Lars' drumming, I actually enjoy it and it fits Metallica's sound but I don't even understand how James, Kirk and Rob manage to play in time live w/ Lars.
james and kirk played with lars for more than 30 years. and rob played with them for more than 13 years. what you can expect. hahaha they are good musicians tho
Lars was great in his time he was and is a key member when it comes to making A song and business money making average drummer that every loves to hate has talent in different areas which makea him a damn good drummer. That should retire soon
I love playing this song on either bass or rhythm guitar, but by 6-7 minutes I am dead. I wanted to see how someone would do it on drums, you made it look easy. Nice.
dig the cover man, only change I would've suggested would be to hold off on the double bass synchronization with the guitar for a measure/bar in the beginning. Where it's snare and hi hat but no bass drum. Regardless of my opinion, this is bloody brilliant!
Inspiring! One take, owning it to the end. After the middle section you become the hulk, uncontainable, looking for ways to smash and destroy. Badass! Thank you
That was pretty kick ass! I especially liked the way you changed up the intro. Very cool! Been watching a lot of your other drum covers. There is some good stuff on your channel. From one drummer to another, keep rockin!
It would be nice if some artists would come and comment on great content like this. This guy is hands down one of the best drummers I’ve seen on UA-cam! It would be nice if they could show some appreciation!
Mr. Steffen!! If I didn't SEE that with my own three eyes I would not have believed it possible. That's WORK! Brother, seriously --sincerely ---thoroughly impressed...un-effing--real. I think that the Puppets era Lars had a little Columbian edge that makes your clean accomplishment all the more insanely kick- assay office gold. It was an honor to have witnessed...no bull-shitim wood about it.
0:15 i know it's the same riff, but it sound completelly different just by changing the drums
Leandrometfan this riff starts to sound like bodies by drowning pool😂
usually i think Lars' drumming serves the song better than this type of stuff but this makes this song soooooooo fucking good
Try adding some naruto flute sound
Leandrometfan it gets a very groovy vibe instead of pure thrash
I will never listen to the intro the same way I used to damn
Let's be honest, the 'fist and nod' gesture that Josh does in all the videos before playing is absolutely badass!
Yeah, it's like he is saying ( hey guys check out this shit I just made. Check it out.
Then at the end it's like, (. See, see, pretty fuckin cool huh.)
I think he also makes a weird clicking sound with his mouth. That means he is pleased with his performance. Sometimes he gives a half ok hand gesture if he messed up a little.
i take the fist as "i think i nailed it", and in some videos, he wiggles his hand to say "i think i could've done a bit better"
+MrErikwade most true comment i've seen
About to comment same thing. Then found your comment
0:40 this double bass pattern fits so perfect into the riff. I love it!
ikr? i mean DAMN!!! 🤟🏽😝
kills the riff!!!!!!!
@@jd0879 Can't say you're wrong but doesn't invalidate my statement. lol
Dude I watch them in slow motion....
the double bass following the guitar at the start is SO fucking sick dude.
Yeah it's a straight middlefinger to Lars claiming he follows James' guitar.
@@TheArnienator he doesn’t really need to tbh
Jesus always roasting Lars...

You really should man, this is so epic and I really wanna hear your original drumming on these songs!
No 1 thing I like about josh Steffen is there are no random camera angle changes
hahaha nice Lars vid d00d, you really showed him!

I concur
5 years later, I'm still pretty convinced this is one of the best drum interpretations on youtube. freaking nailed it
"I play pokemon Go every day" dave lombardo style
Omg haha
Oh yes
A Hanneman solo would be hilarious too
best idea ever
YEs
This man woke up and chose to be a god. This will forever be my favorite video
Josh ''i'm only good at short bursts of double bass'' Steffen
God i love this man's ambition and dedication.
You took a masterpiece of a song and made it better through your drumming. Wow!
Every once in a while I come back to this, and every single time I'm blown away, great job, Josh!
i cannot find anything better as far as metallica drum covers on youtube you are the man
Considering you can play as well as all the "best" drummers ever....you sir ARE the best drummer ever!
Awesome remake! Great job
It was about doing a cover...not about humillating lars

Great job. Killer footwork.

haha fail
like that time he heard another band playing creeping death and he said that that was so funny
Bass drum in the beginning was gnarly
Impeccable timing on a very intensive piece of music, and on a drumless track it sounds fucking amazing. Those tom fills are so good.

New name to the video: Disposable Josh (Disposable heroes Josh Steffen style)

love them double bass pedals
I'd love to see the front view of your kit.
How about a walkthrough video????
This is what I was hoping for. you doing your own version of the song. Especially stuff from ride the lightning and master of puppets.

Matthew Perry Desention-! Fuck yes
I'd love to see a Lars'd version of Scavenger of Human Sorrow.
Great job!
How are the socks after such drumming session? Is it very bad?
seriously man, such creativity! such outstanding, majestic playing!
The slow double bass part in the beginning from 00:16 to 00:30 was an awesome idea. Fit like a glove

A collab that I would pay to see is Killrbuckeye and Josh Steffen! And Killr is back baby!
I fucking love your energetic playing style it makes the song so much more thrasher.
no metal band in history has ever put out a song like this before or after. such an amazing fucking song. James had the pick of destiny.

They don’t follow Lars, they follow James’ vocals. That’s the only way they don’t train wreck.
Hell yeah, Josh :) Killed it! The flavour you put on the intro is just awesome.
This was great as always! I love watching you play man, you got me into metal! Could you do a medley of Metallica's self titled?
Cool, man! Someday
