Nightcrawler is my absolute favorite. In my opinion he represents Xavier's dream. His appearance scares people and makes him hated, but he still fights to defend those that hate and fears him.
Nightcrawler has always been my favorite X-man. I love his power set, his look, and his light hearted nature while still being kinda depressed. Just a great character that i feel doesn't get much attention.
I'm not a big fan of religion, but I've always really liked that aspect of Nightcrawler's character. It sets him apart, and kind of grounds him in our reality a little bit. He's not religious in some crazy, over-the-top way like some of the Stryker and the Purifiers..Kurt's just deeply religious in the way that some people are. It's not usually a plot point, it's just an aspect of his personality. It's important to him, but it isn't like his sole motivation in life. He doesn't mention it every other sentence, just like most real people wouldn't. Also, Catholicism is a religion that very distinctly exists in our current world. It's not just some vague non-denominational thing, or a dead pantheist religion that nobody really believes anymore. Catholic is just a thing that some people are. I don't know...on the one hand, it kind of grates on me, because I don't like religion at all. But on the other, Kurt is a perfect example of how solidly the X-Men are rooted in our real world. It's funny, though...how a fictional character believing in another fictional character can make him seem all the more real. There's some meta commentary in that, I think.
I'm the same way. I'm a pretty strong atheist but Nightcrawler is definitely my favorite and I do like how his faith ( and the optimism it imbues him with) set him apart from his Best friend, Logan.
I really respect what you saying and imma atheist From the A all the way to The T!! but he's a humanist too and that gives him validity and weight as a character. His honesty in moral issues isn't disconnected from the human. maybe that is his beginning after all as a comic book character. He should return as a adult for a mature audience already with the both tales under control....
Thank you!!! Nightcrawler is my all time favorite character! He is the embodiment of what the XMen represent, devoted Christian (even tho i am Agnostic) and just a great character!!! He is my favorite super hero of all time...second is Silver Serfer
Nightcrawler has been my favorite since I was a kid. I'd say Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine are my favorite X-Men characters. And I'd say Joker and Magneto are my top villains of all time. My favorite superheroes have to be Spider-Man and Batman.
Hahaha, I guess so. The biblical version got kicked out for a kind of mutiny, and the comic version came back to plunder the jerks who kicked him out lol
I grew up on the TV comics and then caught Evolution and Nightcrawler has always been my favorite. Mysterious character, deep and rich personality, original ability, hints of religion without becoming a fanatic but always serving as a centering place when things seem chaotic, and a moral grounding unique from any other superhero I know. He was the superhero people who liked both comics and faith needed, and even if faith wasn't the issue, he was unique in his moral compass - could have been the Captain America of Marvel if he hadn't been more the loner and occasional friend type like Logan.
Always had a soft spot for Nightcrawler growing up for him being different from all the other mutants in physical appearance. Very relatable character, and some great story lines u broke down that I never knew
I too love the character, always felt some connection to him, even before he started exhibiting elements of my own faith. His power creates some of the coolest pictures in comics, like the one of him teleporting so fast that he hits several people at once!
Gotta say bro. I'm intensely into explanatory comic book videos and I enjoy yours the most by far. You've got a perfect voice for narration and a deep understanding of the content. Nightcrawler is my favorite X-men. I think you nailed it when you spoke about him holding the readers viewpoint! Plus I've always related to agile characters and I dig Kurt's optimism and faith.
I just saw this video and I have to say you did a very comprehensive look into his story. There are many more comics I will need to check out now. I just have to say Nightcrawler has always been one of my favorite superheros. Not only because his power to teleport awesome but his charter is so interesting. He has the ability to be a great comedic character while simultaneously carrying the potential to be a truly moving and emotional character as well. One of my favorite aspects about him is his faith. While I am not catholic I am Christian, and growing up superheros didn't identify with faith so when I found nightcrawler I felt a true connection. Here is a character that is shuned for his demonic appearance and in the midst of his pain he turns to faith with a true dedication. I love when writers add this to his diolouge because he isn't a stereotype but is an approachable and relatable representation of grace in action and a how faith guides his life even if it isn't always mentioned. While his death in xfactor was shocking and seemingly wrong I give them credit that their handling of the funeral was good. The other members on the team don't share his same faith (if any of them do my appologies) but they came with an open heart to honor his memory and all of them spoke to the light he had, how he was a true friend and the best line, "His was the only chaple I ever set foot in." His pirate story in the afterlife while odd at times was great because not only did we get kurt back and have fun with it but it tied in his stuggle of the effect it had on his soul in connection with his unfinished business on earth. Xmen 2 and the original xmen cartoon also did a good job of addressing his faith. His friendship with Logan is a perfect example of how two polar opposite personalities and views on faith can grow to have meaningful connections. I was sad this aspect was missing from nightcrawler when he was reintroduced in the new xmen movies and his willingness to kill in dark phoenix bothered me...(I know he did that in xmen 2 as well but not by choice). I do apologize for the lengthy comment but I just wanted to share because I think it's important. I think it is amazing how comic heros can be larger than life but also be able to represent the very human realities of our world. I think it is great when any reader can find a character that can empower them and give a voice to shared life experiences, beliefs, culture, etc. For me that was nightcrawler and I truly appreciate this overview of his character.
Small note: The village is pronounced vintseldorf, translating to "tiny village" (basically marking this place as fictional or at the very least generic while sounding like a place in southern germany or austria). Usually, I wouldn't mind, but in this case your pronounciation changes the meaning to "whimpering village", which is just weird. This village name displays an impressive level of understanding German for a non-native, especially compared to whatever madman decided Darkhölme could pass for an Austrian family name, especially when combined with Raven of all things.
furyberserk With that being said, i'm gonna go ahead and i'm gonna bring my youtube to a close and begin working on them...and i'll catch you guys later......peace!
Nightcrawler is so badass. I wish people would actually realize how awesome teleportation is as a superpower. You can literally go wherever you want in the world in seconds. Assassins would be able to sneak behind their targets and stab them in a matter of seconds. Bullets would be no problem at all. People would fear you but at the same time see you as a god. You would literally be a force of unstoppable fear. Or if you want to be normal with it you could just teleport to school or work and be boring and basic.
Nightcrawler was one of my favorite X-men when I was little, my dad had this X-men PC game... (Which was impossibly hard) And Nightcrawler was one of the characters you could use. I always thought teleporting was a great power

Not so much because he was so different than the mainstream Nightcrawler, but because Remender's Uncanny X-Force is probably one of the heaviest storylines ever written, with the whole nurture vs nature beginning, and Deadpool's "I've never killed a kid" line that had me crying like a little b... antwan1357 A good religious leader trying to keep his role in the x-men and stop his church from becoming corrupted. That could be interesting especially considering most religious leaders are seen as bad. The thing is for that to work he’d have to kind of be like Wolverine, meaning he’d need to be either a part-time guy who gives up his full time spot or a full-time guy who just likes to be “away” like Logan does, instead of going solo he can go on church retreats. I will say I'm extremely interested to see what happens in Extraordinary X-men with his character development, especially after the introduction to the new Four Horsemen(Colossus, Deadpool, Moon Knight, & Venom)!
Night crawler may not be one of my personal favorites (bar him being my favorite to play as in the x-men arcade game); this was a very well done and informative video and I enjoyed watching it and am glad you made it. Of course that is exactly what I've come to expect from these and I look forward to the next one. Thank you for your hard work and as others have mentioned, the old intro making a return is very cool. God yes, old intro, my man Nightcrawler, AND I didn't get called into work today.
Unsubbed just to sub again fam.
one of my favourite characters portrayed very differently and wanted to know more about him. your videos are excellent and professional, so thank you a lot for these gems!

dude this channel is so high quality
Before watching, I predicted the first sentence of this video perfectly, even down to the inflection in Rob's voice.
I love that you brought back that music and opening.
This has to be one of my favorite videos you've made, absolutely fantastic! I've always had a huge soft spot for Nightcrawler and this video sums up exactly why. Thank you for your hard work and appreciation for the content you put out, you're awesome Rob! I will say I'm extremely interested to see what happens in Extraordinary X-men with his character development, especially after the introduction to the new Four Horsemen(Colossus, Deadpool, Moon Knight, & Venom)!
Bro your new intros are hot fire I dig it
Thanks for your continuous hard work making these videos.
I may be a recent subscriber but I've gone back and watched pretty much your entire catalogue and I prefer this intro.
Thank you for bringing the intro back. ✊🏾
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE INTRO ROB
Wow so Nightcrawler was almost a DC character, fun fact. Wonder who would win between him and number 5 from umbrella academy
I like the way you have done this video, the music in the background and the opening it was all good
Nightcrawler has always been in my top 10. His look, his humble attitude, his whole style!
Nightcrawler is one of the few Marvel comics characters I have always been fascinated with ever since I got into comics (started reading in the late 80's after moving to the US.
Anyhow thank for the amazing video
