I discovered Carman in the 1980's though a friend who was a fan of him and she turned me on to Carman and I'm glad that she did. I sew him once in concert at Cross Roads Church in Yuba City, California. It was great! RIP Carmen.

They would pay for these stadiums, charge no admission with general seating and trust God to fill the house, Lead people to Christ and provide for the needs to continue the ministry.... They would step out on nothing and find something there! Praise be to God! Carmen was far from perfect like all of us but he practiced what he preached.
This song has got it all! Amazing songwriting, tight performance, awesome mixing, Gretsch guitar. And Carman! Been listening to his music since early 90s. Still think each and every song is a masterpiece in its own right.
Can't say I'm a great fan of music as music is of emotion and moves emotion. I'm much more moved by logic. I will readily admit however that Carman's music has soothed the savage beast in me on many occasions and I am surely thankful to have a brother in Christ like Carman, who does all he can to put some logic into his lyrics. Hidden in one of Carman's early songs was the lyrics, "Send the Rain LORD" and then Carman whispered, "Send Understanding". Praise God for the day Carman said that because that prompted me on a search that led to glorious revelations from God's Word (the Bible) and I credit that gentle whisper as the very voice of God calling me through His servant. God bless ya Brother.

I love the lyrics of this song! "Taking a giant leap in the aaaaaair, stepping out on nothing and finding something there!" That's faith! My favorite hymn is Great is Thy Faithfulness. I often sing it as it reminds me that God asks me to trust Him and He always provides what is needed in my life! So many times I've stepped out on air always to find something there. This song is a great reminder too! With a catchy rythm! Carmen's music reached out to all genres. I love his deepor low his voice goes in this one! My children were raised in 80's & l90's. We watched Carmen on VHS tapes that friends passed our way. His message is so relevant today!
Whenever I hear the lines about "stepping out on nothing and finding something there" i think of the scene in the Indiana Jones movie where he's being chased by the bad guys. He comes to a deep wide chasm and must somehow cross or be killed. He tentatively puts a foot out over the chasm and suddenly a board appears under his foot. He steps onto it, puts the other foot out and a board appears under it. He suddenly takes off running across the chasm and the faster he runs the faster the boards appear under his feet until he is safely across. Such a vivid picture of what Carman is saying here about faith.
I think I've watched every Carman video now - it's like watching Elvis Presley, Clint Eastwood, M C Hammer, Julio Iglesias, George Clooney and James Bond all rolled up into one - except it's the Christian version - thank you so much Carmen & Praise the Lord for awesome worship music :)

IMO Carman was a mixture of Elvis, James Brown, Billy Graham, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ray Stevens, David Bowie. He was a true alchemist.
