This has made me realize, Zelda probably doomed the adult timeline by sending Link back. Hyrule was flooded and eventually forgoten because there was no hero to rise and stop the return of Ganondorf, but why would that be? Remember, it was not by the magic of the master sword, which efectively conected the two timelines, but rather she sent Link to a time before the master sword was removed so he could warn her young self of Ganondorf. Before this, the two timelines were conected and continous, but after Zelda sent Link back, she broke the conection by creating a paradox for her own timeline. So, the Adult timeline's hero basically vanished, and maybe that's why even though the one in wind waker is chosen by the triforce of courage, he still is not recognized as spiritually related to the hero of time, as stated by all the mayor spirits of wind waker. The link or the child era is an adult hero in a childs body, and even though he went looking for adventure, hyrule never really needed him because peace lasted until the twilight era, thanks to the sacred realm being protected by the master sword.
This. Actually explains a bit, particularly about the third 'Link Dies', timeline. If Zelda sent him to a time Before he got the master sword, perhaps before he even got the other two spiritual stones, then that would leave the original time empty. As the link for it would have seemingly vanished after leaving the forest.

Well, I think The Hero of Time is the cursed swordman because, in the child timeline, Ganondorf was exposed by Zelda which started a war between Hyrule and the Gerudo. Link was the captain and the first Hyrule Knight. So he brought a lot of death to the world. In the adoult time line, the "only one" who died was Ganondorf.
Cursed swordman to the people of the past at least. Ganondorf definitely killed many more people in the future. Heck, he obliterated the entire zora race.

The reason Link doesn't speak in Zelda games is because Nintendo wants the player to feel like they really are Link. You have choices in Zelda. That let's you, the player, decide who you want Link to be. He doesn't talk because Nintendo wants Link to have your personality. You can give Link any personality you want: Mean, Nice, Smart... Whatever you choose!

The Hero's Shade can be a residual haunting. A ghostly recording of an event that happened in a place triggered at a certain time or for a certain event. Like ghostly sounds or visions that only happen at a given time, all the time or ghost ghosts who "re- play " their death. The soul is not needed as it is only a recording. This Hero's Shade can be a spirit recording made by Time Link to a future successor, knowing full well that he would not be there himself to teach it; as he is in fact the next Hero. The recording is triggered by the howling at each howling stone. Zelda must have had a vision about a new hero who could walk in twilight as a blue eyed beast and Time Link prepared this to help himself for the task, because he will not remember from past lives. Also maybe Time Link is remembered in an unconscious level; since you hear people talking about the Legendary Hero chosen by the gods. Maybe people know he existed; but not who he was.
How fitting that the one who regrets not being able to properly inspire people teaches the very hero who would become an inspiration across both Hyrule and the Twilight Realm. The Hero of Twilight inspires courage and heroism in everyone he meets, which would give the ghost of Hero of Time the pride and fulfillment to finally move on, knowing he has a successor that would be the embodiment of courage to all of Hyrule, **without** it being overwritten by time travel.
Well, ta me, Ocarina of Time Link could still be Twilight Princess Link's dad at 93 years old with his son bein' born at that time. Then he'd be 110 years old while his son--Twilight Princess Link--was 17 years old at the time of The legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. An' that's 100 years after The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

I want the Hero of Time to have at least some happiness in his end before death. My own perspective is that Link never finds Navi in Majora's Mask. He then goes back to the lost woods after child birth, telling Malon, his wife, that he has to do this. He would say something like, "If I don't make it back soon, if I ever come back, take care of the kids. You, my family, is what I love most. And I consider Saria, Ruto, Zelda, all of them... a part of my family. And that includes my old fairy. And I hope one day, one day, one day, one of our kids or their descendants, can be as brave an heroic as we were. Make sure they have the best life they can. I'll see you later, in this life or another *kiss*," and takes off. He one day, after years of searching, finds Navi. But he can never make it back home. Navi eventually finds a way back, and tells Malon. With Link stuck in this afterlife, he wishes to pass on his teachings to someone, preferably his own. And he does. Interesting story, huh?

At the end of ocarina of time zelda sends him back, and equip with the knowledge he warns zelda od ganondorfs intentions and ganondorf is stopped. link ventures to termina and the events of majoras mask happen at that time, while hes gone a gerudo hylian war went on and as he returned he must have joined some hyrulean army.

According to Skyward Sword legend (further explained in the manga), every Link is reincarnation of the original hero that fought Demise (former Ganon, former Ganondorf) for the sake of Hyrule, under the blessing of godess Hylia (former Zelda). Then the Events of TP occurs and the Spirit possesses the new Link . and so on and so on.

The reason the hero of Shade call the Link of twilight princess his son, is because he is his new spiritual incarnation (the spirtual incarnation of the Link of majoras mask, has his spirit is incarnated in a new body with another life background,so that is what make him his son in a sense),and the hero of shade is a manifestation of the Link of majora mask regret of not passing his fighting techniques to his predecessor (but true he had regret for not being remembered has a hero).So you can consider the hero of Shade has a leftover Link copy with his dark emotion and the past memory of the precedent Link (the one of majoras mask) .

LINK....CAN....TALK...... countless characters throughout the games acknowledging him talking. Nintendo literally said the only reason we don't see Link's dialogue is because they want us, the players, to use our imagination on what Link's personality is like. He still talks in Ocarina and Majora.

There's a Kokiri named Fado in Ocarina of Time who tells you that "anybody who comes into the forest will be lost. Everybody will become a Stalfos. Everybody, Stalfos"...so it makes me wonder if maybe the Hero's shade is the result of Link wandering into the Lost Woods and becoming cursed, doomed to become a Stalfos
Be cool if we got a game based on Link(post-Majora's Mask) where we only play as adult Link, he gets to be the hero once more albeit not as epic, gets wounded and laments his life. Just a really sad ending.

Wait, there cannot be a gap of 100 years between Majoras Mask and Twilight Princess. Link was a kid in majoras mask so the link from Twilight Princess HAVE to be his grandson if that was the case. I would give it like 600+ years.

I love this theory. But I always thought that Link was eventually corrupted by the one mask he had left. The Deity Mask. That power is just as if not more evil than Majora. And Link had it at the end of MM. Maybe, he wasnt remembered as a hero because he was litterally cursed by the Oni Mask

I still say it's because he kept getting lost in that magical forest that once took him to Termina because in Ocarina of time it was mentioned that those who get lost in their become either skull kids or stalfoes, which are skeletal warriors.

Here's an idea: maybe the sword that the Hero of Time gets that he eventually uses as The Hero's Shade is the royal broadsword from BoTW? I know that if this is true, it's not like it will be important to the series or anything like that, just a cool little thought. Plus, the in-game description of the sword said that it was rewarded to knights who had accomplished extraordinary..... well, accomplishments. so, if the Hero of Time had, in fact, become a knight, it's not unlikely that they would give it to him.
The tree he mentioned us actually also mentioned by some lady in botw and it's a side mission to get her to meet him. And she remembers him by the sword that seals darkness aka the master sword. I guess there are some people who still remember him other that that he is forgoten as well as the eight heroin statue
i love how the hero of time is different from the other links because he Has the most character and backstory and unlike most links his story doesn't have a happy ending and even though its just a game its a bit sad.

Why do so many people think Link was essentially mute up until Skyward Sword? Any time somebody asked you a question in any prior Zelda game, you were able to give them an answer. It's not that Link NEVER spoke, just that he RARELY spoke.
"How did he lose his eye? Well, obviously, in battle..." Or it could have rotted out. 'cause, you know, a hundred years....As for why his other eye's still in tact if that's the case: A person's eyes are not directly connected to each other in any way. Just because one's massively infected with something that's rotting it away doesn't mean the other will automatically catch the same infection.
I'd like to point out: In ocarina of time link has TWO lines of dialogue: "You're right, i don't have a sword or sheild..." and "Sheesh!". both lines are said when talking to whats his face guarding the deku tree before obtaining the kokiri blade/ the kokiri shield. (i might have misquoted the first line).

He didn't erased Ganon in both the future and the past, just in the former one. It is beleaved that the final scene in OoT, when he returns as a child to visit Zelda in the garden, is the moment in which he advise them about the evil Ganondorf and thus they imprisioned him as it is seen in the cutscene of Twilight Princess :)

I hope with zelda wii u they make a third hero of time game that takes place after majoras mask. They already said that there would be no ganondorf in the game and since he's locked away he wouldn't be the main bad guy. This would be a great seller becouse almost every one knows who the hero of time is and this would rap up his story with him possibly dieing at the end with a tragic end to a cursed hero.
actually according to Hyrule Historia Link warned Zelda and the royal family of Ganondorf's betrayal. this caused a civil war not so long after the last one (because it was still going on when Link was a baby) what i think happened is that Link simply couldn't go back to get the master sword because that would have gave Ganondorf access to the sacred realm so he had to rely on his own sword. Link fought Fought in the second civil war he didn't defeat Ganondorf because he lacked the master sword although hyrule won the civil war, Link was not killed, but he was mortally wounded in a battle with Ganondorf but Ganondorf was sealed away thanks to divine intervention. as for what happened to Link he was found by either Talon or Malon from the Lon Lon Ranch where he was tended to and eventually married Malon which is why Link in TP grew up in Ordon as a farmer. OOT Link at his old age suddenly remembered who he was and set out to search for Zelda, he was recognized by only a few soldiers and Zelda herself but by the time he got to Hyrule he was already wearing a bit thin and collapsed, died of old age.
So basically, Link finishes Ocarina Of Time as is turned into a kid again. Meets Malon again and they get together, maybe have a child when they are now adults. Link leaves her to search for Navi, he goes into the woods and gets lost. He goes on another journey in Majora's Mask then once done, he leaves again. He finds a way out, then gets lost on his way back out of the forest. He gets turned into a creature, or one of the creatures that roam in those woods. He finds his way out, the forest now had taken over the Kokiri town. Link is still a creature, but makes his way out and finds that the castle is different. Malon had moved to a different place to settle and the rest of the Kokiri citizens live there, except they've evolved into normal humans. And so Twilight Princess time is now there. _______________ I noticed while writing, there are -a couple- many of plot holes;;; But I will try to answer many questions you may ask about the theory...
hm good points. but allow me. remember skyward sword? well demise cursed link and Zelda to fight evil for all eternity. and the hero's shade aka the hero of time, is his bloodline, along with every other "hero". so young link aka hero's shade, was as you said not remembered for his actions, thus he never was recognized as the hero, well only by some he was, bound by regret and strife his soul was trapped on earth. oh and that is a funny majoras mask reference to darimani. well hope this helps.
I like this theory, it is well thought out! But... I could have sworn that the 'curse' mentioned on the gravestone was the curse placed on Link, Zelda, Ganondorf/Demise and even Impa... The curse that means that they will all keep on reincarnating in their specific roles, which is why all characters keep on returning in games. Remember, cursee doesn't necessarily mean a literal curse, but it can also mean his name and his story is forbiddon. The Gorons still act like the hero of time was the bestest guy ever so its not like he didn't do anything notable afterwards. What if Link did something disgraceful that dishonored him?

The Hero's Shade can be a residual haunting. A ghostly recording of an event that happened in a place triggered at a certain time or for a certain event. Like ghostly sounds or visions that only happen at a given time, all the time or ghost ghosts who "re- play " their death. The soul is not needed as it is only a recording. This Hero's Shade can be a spirit recording made by Time Link to a future successor, knowing full well that he would not be there himself to teach it; as he is in fact the next Hero. The recording is triggered by the howling at each howling stone. Zelda must have had a vision about a new hero who could walk in twilight as a blue eyed beast and Time Link prepared this to help himself for the task, because he will not remember from past lives. Also maybe Time Link is remembered in an unconscious level; since you hear people talking about the Legendary Hero chosen by the gods. Maybe people know he existed; but not who he was.
Or the whole reincarnation thing wasn't thought out yet in TP and so at that time all links were separate people.

How fitting that the one who regrets not being able to properly inspire people teaches the very hero who would become an inspiration across both Hyrule and the Twilight Realm. I want the Hero of Time to have at least some happiness in his end before death. My own perspective is that Link never finds Navi in Majora's Mask. He then goes back to the lost woods after child birth, telling Malon, his wife, that he has to do this. He would say something like, "If I don't make it back soon, if I ever come back, take care of the kids. You, my family, is what I love most. And I consider Saria, Ruto, Zelda, all of them... a part of my family. And that includes my old fairy. And I hope one day, one day, one day, one of our kids or their descendants, can be as brave an heroic as we were. Make sure they have the best life they can. I'll see you later, in this life or another *kiss*," and takes off. He one day, after years of searching, finds Navi. But he can never make it back home. Navi eventually finds a way back, and tells Malon. With Link stuck in this afterlife, he wishes to pass on his teachings to someone, preferably his own. And he does. Interesting story, huh?

the heros shade must have been majora link, obviously, and i think he was never reconginsed as a hero because he never had to face ganondorf in the first place. At the end of ocarina of time zelda sends him back, and equip with the knowledge he warns zelda od ganondorfs intentions and ganondorf is stopped. link ventures to termina and the events of majoras mask happen at that time, while hes gone a gerudo hylian war went on and as he returned he must have joined some hyrulean army.

When Link defeats Ganon and is returned to his Child timeline. the spirit leaves him. meaning that the events that happened in MM is just him. no Triforce, no Chosen Hero Spirit. Then the Events of TP occurs and the Spirit possesses the new Link . and so on and so on.

The reason the hero of Shade call the Link of twilight princess his son, is because he is his new spiritual incarnation (the spirtual incarnation of the Link of majoras mask, has his spirit is incarnated in a new body with another life background,so that is what make him his son in a sense),and the hero of shade is a manifestation of the Link of majora mask regret of not passing his fighting techniques to his predecessor (but true he had regret for not being remembered has a hero).So you can consider the hero of Shade has a leftover Link copy with his dark emotion and the past memory of the precedent Link (the one of majoras mask) .

LINK....CAN....TALK...... countless characters throughout the games acknowledging him talking. Nintendo literally said the only reason we don't see Link's dialogue is because they want us, the players, to use our imagination on what Link's personality is like. He still talks in Ocarina and Majora.

There's a Kokiri named Fado in Ocarina of Time who tells you that "anybody who comes into the forest will be lost. Everybody will become a Stalfos. Everybody, Stalfos"...so it makes me wonder if maybe the Hero's shade is the result of Link wandering into the Lost Woods and becoming cursed, doomed to become a Stalfos

I would kill for a game in the OOT style that explained the final adventure of the Hero of Time as he tried and failed to find a way to stop Ganondorf’s return and setting up contingency plans like asking Skull Kid to act as a guide for his next self.
I still say it's because he kept getting lost in that magical forest that once took him to Termina because in Ocarina of time it was mentioned that those who get lost in their become either skull kids or stalfoes, which are skeletal warriors.

That's when a god ( Zelda) shows her self to the first link and then he get cursed by Hyrule's gods to become the hero of Hyrule. So then all the heroes of Hyrule are the same soul. That's when Ganondorf is reincarnated so is Link, and Zelda. Because the tri forces of power is in use again the one of wisdom must be put in use same with courage. Here's an idea: maybe the sword that the Hero of Time gets that he eventually uses as The Hero's Shade is the royal broadsword from BoTW? I know that if this is true, it's not like it will be important to the series or anything like that, just a cool little thought. Plus, the in-game description of the sword said that it was rewarded to knights who had accomplished extraordinary..... well, accomplishments. so, if the Hero of Time had, in fact, become a knight, it's not unlikely that they would give it to him.

The tree he mentioned us actually also mentioned by some lady in botw and it's a side mission to get her to meet him. And she remembers him by the sword that seals darkness aka the master sword. I guess there are some people who still remember him other that that he is forgoten as well as the eight heroin statue
i love how the hero of time is different from the other links because he Has the most character and backstory and unlike most links his story doesn't have a happy ending and even though its just a game its a bit sad.

Why do so many people think Link was essentially mute up until Skyward Sword? Any time somebody asked you a question in any prior Zelda game, you were able to give them an answer. It's not that Link NEVER spoke, just that he RARELY spoke.
"How did he lose his eye? Well, obviously, in battle..." Or it could have rotted out. 'cause, you know, a hundred years....As for why his other eye's still in tact if that's the case: A person's eyes are not directly connected to each other in any way. Just because one's massively infected with something that's rotting it away doesn't mean the other will automatically catch the same infection.
In the spanish version of the game he doesn't call Link "my son", it could be the art of localization XD
I'd like to point out: In ocarina of time link has TWO lines of dialogue: "You're right, i don't have a sword or sheild..." and "Sheesh!". both lines are said when talking to whats his face guarding the deku tree before obtaining the kokiri blade/ the kokiri shield. (i might have misquoted the first line).

Hero shade is, I've heard a decendent ( Sorry for spelling ), of the hero of time.
He didn't erased Ganon in both the future and the past, just in the former one. It is beleaved that the final scene in OoT, when he returns as a child to visit Zelda in the garden, is the moment in which he advise them about the evil Ganondorf and thus they imprisioned him as it is seen in the cutscene of Twilight Princess :)

I hope with zelda wii u they make a third hero of time game that takes place after majoras mask. They already said that there would be no ganondorf in the game and since he's locked away he wouldn't be the main bad guy. This would be a great seller becouse almost every one knows who the hero of time is and this would rap up his story with him possibly dieing at the end with a tragic end to a cursed hero.

actually according to Hyrule Historia Link warned Zelda and the royal family of Ganondorf's betrayal. this caused a civil war not so long after the last one (because it was still going on when Link was a baby) what i think happened is that Link simply couldn't go back to get the master sword because that would have gave Ganondorf access to the sacred realm so he had to rely on his own sword. Link fought Fought in the second civil war he didn't defeat Ganondorf because he lacked the master sword although hyrule won the civil war, Link was not killed, but he was mortally wounded in a battle with Ganondorf but Ganondorf was sealed away thanks to divine intervention. as for what happened to Link he was found by either Talon or Malon from the Lon Lon Ranch where he was tended to and eventually married Malon which is why Link in TP grew up in Ordon as a farmer. OOT Link at his old age suddenly remembered who he was and set out to search for Zelda, he was recognized by only a few soldiers and Zelda herself but by the time he got to Hyrule he was already wearing a bit thin and collapsed, died of old age.
So basically, Link finishes Ocarina Of Time as is turned into a kid again. Meets Malon again and they get together, maybe have a child when they are now adults. Link leaves her to search for Navi, he goes into the woods and gets lost. He goes on another journey in Majora's Mask then once done, he leaves again. He finds a way out, then gets lost on his way back out of the forest. He gets turned into a creature, or one of the creatures that roam in those woods. He finds his way out, the forest now had taken over the Kokiri town. Link is still a creature, but makes his way out and finds that the castle is different. Malon had moved to a different place to settle and the rest of the Kokiri citizens live there, except they've evolved into normal humans. And so Twilight Princess time is now there.

hm good points. but allow me. remember skyward sword? well demise cursed link and Zelda to fight evil for all eternity. and the hero's shade aka the hero of time, is his bloodline, along with every other "hero". so young link aka hero's shade, was as you said not remembered for his actions, thus he never was recognized as the hero, well only by some he was, bound by regret and strife his soul was trapped on earth. oh and that is a funny majoras mask reference to darimani. well hope this helps.

I like this theory, it is well thought out! But... I could have sworn that the 'curse' mentioned on the gravestone was the curse placed on Link, Zelda, Ganondorf/Demise and even Impa... The curse that means that they will all keep on reincarnating in their specific roles, which is why all characters keep on returning in games. It's probably just a theory that I have mistaken for fact, but... Meh! Great theory!

Remember, cursee doesn't necessarily mean a literal curse, but it can also mean his name and his story is forbiddon. The Gorons still act like the hero of time was the bestest guy ever so its not like he didn't do anything notable afterwards.
