to those who are talking about this song being very "pop".. The lyrics are very spiritual and positive. So then, should it matter if it sounds pop? Our youth really needs to hear this type of "pop" then. The lyrics have a positive idea. Anyone who can't see that and is stuck on the sound, isnt focused on the MESSAGE. Understand that music is a weapon with a message. Soja has choosen to create a song with positive lyrics. I think that speaks very highly of them and I wouldn't consider that as "selling out". So instead of calling them sell outs or asking what happened to the reggae "sound" they used to have, just take in the music and the message. Also, NO, Soja isnt going to start being pop. They are just collaborating Michael Franti. When different artists collaborate the sound always differs from it's original sound. This is exactly what happens when you mix two colors; you get a new color. The saddest part is that the ones who are judging this song so harshly are the youths. Yet, they are the ones who NEED to hear this message the most. They are bombarded by negative messages on tv, radio, at home, and at school, ect. Girls are taught that a size zero is the only size is attractive. Boys are taught to objectify women, and that MONEY makes you attractive. In a society where our youth is taught to give value to money and looks alone, a message like this needs to be heard and proclaimed. If you are a young person, just think about how only giving value to looks and money will affect you when you are older. I know you think your never going to grow old or sick but you will. We all do. A society that only values looks means once you are 30 or 35 and older you are no longer needed and no one really gives a sh*t about you. Is THAT the type of world you want? This song is telling people (youths and anyone else who's willing to change their way of thinking) to follow their hearts and also be moral about it. No stepping on the little guy to get to the top because "Everything is everything". If u screw over someone now "It will all come back to you" in the near future (karma) .. and "Everything that you say, becomes the things that you do" means be a positive person and speak positively. Dont curse, dont put people down because what u speak affects the life around you. And the life around you, gives you life. If u kill whats around you, then u are doing the same to urself. "Remember what you put out there is building you".. do good things and it will build ur character. The song is asking youths to be the OPPOSITE of the things they are told to be on the television, and do the opposite of what those other negative songs tell them to do. Asking our youths to live rightiously. It's a beautiful message.
