Rt.Hon. Sir Geoffrey Cox QC MP: Conservative MP for Torridge and West Devon, who served as Attorney General until 2020. Under May, he was tasked with negotiating the Northern Ireland Backstop, and later advised Johnson on the prorogation of Parliament in 2019.
Boris Johnson’s Conservative Government hit the ground running with a promise to ‘level-up’, following a landslide election which turned the Red Wall blue. In the two years since, the country has been faced with lockdowns, Brexit shockwaves, and the mass evacuation of British Citizens and allies, as Afghanistan fell after two decades of conflict. With the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, the U-turn on National Insurance, and new trading and defence partnerships causing fractures across the international community, we ask in our traditional opening debate of the year: should we have confidence in Her Majesty’s Government?
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
He would make an excellent Prime Minister. I've just watched again his "Dead Parliament Speech" in the Commons; incredible.
His voice is pure gold
How much is he getting paid😂😂
And labour politicians are not paid handsomely too? and have a long history of also doing corrupt actions as well? I don't understand your point. Your incessant focus on "corruption" rather than policies will keep the Tory's in power for another 20 years, probably a far right party will get a lot of votes too. Good job....
@@imShlievenhien like the policy’s of cutting the north from hs2 , that’s levelling up, sorry I thought the Tories are a far right party at the moment, they would say, no corruption here, but look at the the foreigners in this country , to distract them from seeing the real picture!
It's not in his constituency office at least.
Know your mindset by your uestion.
I always wondered if they get paid for these establishment pat-on-the-backs, now we know!
An interest in Geoffrey Cox shoes brought me here.
“Oopsy!”
elegant and mesmerizing
what a speaker
You should have seen his speech about Miller No 2, almost Shakespearean but quite eloquent.
Superb, I could listen to him for hours.
What a loaf of drivel
Agreed
Your comment reflects your understanding of the subject.
I'm surprised he's not making his argument by video link from the Caribbean
‘This House would proffer legal advice to offshore tax havens’
Why is it that all your comments I read on UA-cam articles are full of envious snide?? It says something about your character & mentality that requires attention.
@@michaelmorgan9289 or an insight into how Conservative politicians use their privileged positions to line their pockets.
@@szahmad2416 And you won't line your if an opportunity comes????
The faces when he opens his mouth.
Wish I could earn £54000 for one month's work...
Honestly, Jeffery Cox is like a character from the league of gentlemen.
nothing honourable about this corrupt person. How many jobs does he have? How much has he skimmed off the trough in expenses?
This is why I can never vote for a left wing party again. Everyone knows politicians are corrupt but you rarely focus on the substantive policies, just ad hominems. No wonder the working classes think you are all crazy.
Meanwhile the taxpayer continues to pay over the odds...
Thanks a lot for the advocacy.
He is paid very handsomely for persuading judges to believe him in loud posh baritone.
Too many fall for the act.
Brian Blessed
I haven't seen him in court, but I suspect his theatrics are toned down somewhat and the equally posh judges are persuaded by his legal arguments. Some of the most effective barristers, such as Sumption and Pannick, are not the smoothest speakers. Has little to do with anything.
@@Law9652 Sometimes the best lawyers know very little indeed about the law.
@@namelessnobody7611 It seems an extraordinary claim to make. Do you have any evidence for that, or is that your intuition?
Summary: The Conservatives are progressive and Labour are conservative.
What does the heckler say at 4:36?
A labour government
Paid to waffle
You're right
I na ca o th ra o ra ba SIR geoffrey cox
Interesting that, at Oxford, none of the people on the rostrum are British...
