Yes but also it's one of the saddest. As fantastic a villain Shaw eventually becomes at 2:57 you see Chuck almost get through to Shaw as Shaw lowers his gun so slightly. I don't understand why he blames Sarah. She was just doing exactly what he and every other CIA agent had to do - their red test. Sarah had no way of knowing this person had (presumably) been set up by the ring and was assuming she was an enemy agent, the only reason she actually shot them anyway was because she thought they were about to pull a gun.

+evan stokely this is amazing character development for chuck he was pushed to the limit where he was forced to make the ultimate choice to kill shaw in order to save sarahs life something of which season 1 chuck wouldnt have been capable
Ok let's be honest here, Chuck shot Shaw at a LAST RESORT. Because, Chuck gave Shaw multiple chances and choices. He negotiating with him, he was telling him to surrender, even to the point that Shaw at first powered his gun. But th minute he started thinking about his wife again he looked at Chuck and said; "No Chuck I can. You can't." And then raised his gun up again and was about to shoot at chuck. This lead to Chuck reacting pointing his gun up so fast and shooting at shaw.
That piece right at the beginning, when Sarah cries believing she's about to die, then the music changes, she looks up, she sees Chuck, you see the look on her face, in her eyes, and the way she breathes, and then she starts to cry again, I believe that was the exact moment that Sarah knew honestly, completely that she loved Chuck. I know she said it before, and it was clear at the train station in Prague, but this moment cemented her love for him in stone, because that was the one moment that truly terrified her, knowing she was about to die, and then Chuck showed up... I can only imagine how happy she was in that moment, but I know that her reaction showed that she realised that Chuck would ALWAYS be there fore her, and that he would ALWAYS save her, and that, beyond all doubt, that she loved him.
I have a completely different read on it. She's resigned to her fate, until she sees Chuck. Then there's brief relief and elation because he's there to save her, until she realizes that he's going to have to kill Shaw to save her. Part of what she loves about Chuck is that he's not the type to kill someone, even when he probably should.
@@Q_res you both have reasons. Chuck had to kill Queen when he could, in five years he learned that every now and then the trigger has to be pulled. We can still consider Shaw not a good guy (hero) and not even a great villain. We understand everything about him in 3x04 in the final scene. He lived only to avenge his wife's death, it didn't matter if the ring or the cia killed her. I was saddened that he came back to life, they thwarted chuck's only kill in the series. it was a serious mistake. The authors failed to give her that role as a rea nemesis (chuck's only real nemesis was bryce, as similar or rather nerdy, but with completely different characteristics). Shaw could at most have been a chuck version if he lost Sarah. But we saw that even when he lost it, it didn't become like this.
Nah he'd won Sarah from the beginning. In the beginning of season 1 Sarah was just emotionally out of it from losing Larkin and after that her duty as Chuck's handler stopped her from dating chuck. After that Chuck and Sarah just fucked up communication so that when Chuck doesn't run with Sarah at the end of season 2 she doesn't understand why and feels hurt. Then she thinks Chuck has changed because he killed the mole so she rebounds to Shaw. If Sarah hadn't been Chuck's handler but just a team member she would have started dating him in season 1, since she started falling for him during the pilot. But yes, great scene. Chuck and Sarah compliment each other perfectly and are one of the greatest tv couples.
I was watching Riverdale 4x14 and at the end, this song played. Instantly I remember this scene from Chuck, with the same song, that I would never forget. Love Chuck
For some reason I sympathise with Shaw during this scene. Even though his actions were mostly selfish and irrational, he was driven by the deep sorrow he carried over his wife's death for over five years. During this time he's been trying to destroy the organization he thought to be responsible for the death of his wife. How would you react if you suddenly found out you'd been after the wrong target all along, and the right one is actually one of your colleagues. One of your lovers even. Shaw just wanted redemption for his wife's death, can you really blame him. I'm not saying his actions are justified, and of course I didn't want him to succeed in his plans, but I understand where his way of thinking comes from. Also notice how he doesn't want to hurt anyone else but the person who killed his wife: "Now just stay here, I don't want to hurt you. None of this is your fault. I haven't told them your secret." he says to Chuck. And even when he is about to push Sarah over the edge of the bridge, he tells her that she won't feel a thing. These lines always send chills down my spine. It shows how Shaw had not completely lost his humanity. In my opinion, Shaw's character is very well developed and one of the most interesting in the series.
Thoughtful comment, but didn't his wife put her own life on the line by becoming an ally of that organization? SHE was the one who betrayed Shaw, not Sarah.
@@lucynewlin9544 The CIA wasn't sure if she had turned or not. They just had her killed just to be sure. That's what made shaw turn because they killed her without really being sure.
Killing Sarah was by far the wrong reaction though, I get that it was devastating to find out the woman he was falling for killed his wife but like she was ordered to do it. She’d even mentioned before hand that her red test was the worst moment of her life and that it was something she almost didn’t go through with but in the end did it anyway due to a mix of fear and also orders. I wouldn’t blame him for being angry at the CIA but she didn’t really have a choice in the matter it was her mission and if she failed to do it then someone else would have just ended up killing her similar to how Sarah was supposed to kill the mole if Chuck didn’t do it. Joining a criminal organization and trying to murder your colleague was a complete over reaction, regardless of how much he loved his wife.
@DunklinDonuts559 - That song's called "Kettering" and it's by The Antlers, off of their album Hospice (which I recently ranked as the second greatest album of the decade - and one of the saddest) - I saw them play it live a few months ago when they opened up for The National. Absolutely breathtaking - and I was thrilled when they used it in Chuck. One of the best shows on right now.
Such a powerful and emotional scene.I still get chills every time i watch it.What an emotional roller coaster. Also they could not have picked a better song for this scene.Damn it sucks knowing that this fall there is no new season of Chuck.Im gonna go cry now.LONG LIVE CHUCK AND SARAH!!!!!VIVA BUYMORIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the music is so heartbreaking, I almost cried hearing this music chuck tried so hard and gave shaw every chance to come back from what he was doing. but after he killed his dad there was no going back. (not that trying to kill Sarah is ok, but he might have been able to come back as a person if he regretted it, but after chuck dad, there was no saving him)
It's a very good point you mention about Chuck's Dad. Most people see this scene and forget that Shaw had murdered Chuck's Dad in front of him just because he could. Kinda makes you a little less sympathetic with Shaw losing his wife and makes you respect Chuck even more for being willing to not shoot the guy who so cold-bloodedly killed his Dad.
@@Sharkman1963 I think the writers did Shaw wrong in this, Shaw was never a monster, before he founds out Sarah killed his wife he always just a decent leader of the team. make no sense that turn him into a scumbag, I think the show would even better if they put more effort to build this character as a complex villain with rage/humanity.
I agree so much with you. I've loved a lot of shows and movies, but moments of pure perfection are very few. This is one. The moment when Chuck is forced to leave his father during season 2 with Glasvegas as the music is another one.
No he was not. They showed his violent tendencies constantly and how Sarah reacted to them. Remember when he punched and knocked out that guy for no reason and Sarah was shook
This is indeed the best scene in the show.It was a huge shock to listen to "Kettering" in this scene.I knew the Antlers before the episode.Although it doesnt really suit the scene, because the girl in the song is not saved,it still makes the whole sequence much more dramatic. Many thanks to the uploader, and the guy who said "Hey,I know the song that should play when Chuck kills Shaw and saves the girl"
Am I the only one who gets teary eyed when Shaw gets shot? like yes he becomes a bad guy but I just see a character who has lost his wife, he finds the person responsible after years of covering up his pain, and it just happens to be Sarah. Revenge was his choice, but only because he never really did grieve for his wife's death. Pretty messed up is the simple way of putting it.
Revenge won't bring his wife back and Sarah is not entirely responsible for killing his wife. She was just doing her job, following the orders. He should have found the person who gave Sarah the order to kill his wife
and i will say this series was one of the best written shows imo it knew when and what emotions to trigger itw as funny af when needed and really dramatic when needed as well. Problably the best dramedy if thats a word ive ever seen.
He was being kind of selfish by attempting to kill Sarah, because it was not only Shaw who lost his wife, Sarah also lost Bryce. And another thing is killing Sarah won't bring his wife back.
Sarah didn't know what she was doing. Whether it was the ring or the CIA who orchestrated her assassination, Sarah presumably thought she was killing an enemy agent. As someone else said, I think Shaw should have hunted down the person who arranged his wife's death. Is it possible that his wife actually had changed sides?
I just love how the scene begins : from Sarah's POV, seeing Chuck get his gun out while in disguise, as a piano version of the main theme starts playing... definitly one of the best part of this show.
They should have left it so that chuck actually killed Shaw in this scene .... sort of kills the emotion of the moment when it is revealed that he is still alive
Indeed. And also this Scene reminds me everytime why Chuck was the Greatest TV Show ever made. I learned english just to watch Chuck early than it was avaible here in Germany. And i have to say it was worthit every damn Second and i would do it again.
Yeah, but he also showed the weakness of his attitude when he has trouble pulling the trigger when Shaw doesn't obey his order to stand up. One of the cardinal rules of firearms use is that you never point a gun at someone and give them an order unless you're prepared to pull the trigger if necessary. That almost cost Chuck and Sarah their lives.
I can’t believe he didn’t pull it earlier. It was a hopeless situation from the start, he should have shot Shaw as soon as Chuck got to the bridge, instead of giving Shaw the chance to aim his weapon at him.
One of Shaw’s first bits of advice to Chuck was “I hate guns too, but it pays to know when to use one. Chuck even nodded Funny that he’s also the only one to be shot by Chuck. Turns out he did know when to use one
Its now 2021 soon to be 2022 and I miss this show so much I just finished watching every season of chuck once again I can't stop watching it chuck is my favorite TV series I was only 8 years old when this show ended now I'm 17 almost 18 I wish there were more story to Sarah and chuck I really want another season or a couple movies made and I really want Sarah to get her memories back and I want to see Sarah and chuck buy there dream home together and have a family
This is perhaps the best moment in the series for me, it's great with the music and all. Shaw was a good antagonist, not an evil dude. His wife would have died anyway by someone else, it wasn't really Sarah's fault in that sense. But she pulled the trigger, and he needs to do this. And Chuck finally had to "kill" somebody, not killing anybody was what Sarah loved about him( well, a big part of it) but he obviously had to save her. That kind of kill doesn't really count though ofc, since he saved her. Like with self defence, it's not the same thing then. This is season 3, right? I have watched the series 4 times over, but that was a couple of years ago
You might find this scene even more powerful if you had idea what the song playing is about.. What a good musical choice, by the way it's Kettering by The Antlers from their album Hospice.
Shaw is really my favourite bad guy, he's not really evil at this point. He's just blinded by hatred and revenge and thinks his actions are justified because of the murder of his wife. Really good acting on his part, you can see that he's not really sure about what he's doing, like at the end when chuck says :"this isn't you, Shaw" you see he drops his gun a little but then his hate and feelings for revenge come back up, that's what takes him over the edge.
As much as ii sympathize with Shaw, I also think about the fact that Chuck gave up his position about guns and killing -the thing Sarah appreciated the most about his character- to keep her alive
The fact that Shaw came back after this is some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen in television. The writers of Chuck were never afraid to undermine their own storytelling
I have to say the roles that Brandon Routh has managed to get since his Superman days are pretty amazing. I forgot about him as Shaw on Chuck. Most recently he was the minority hater on The Rookie on ABC which was a very memorable character. I keep forgetting how many eye opening roles he has taken over time. This is one of the best scenes on Chuck.
i remember watching this and thinking Shaw was a bit of dork for holding onto something like this. on my second time through the show a few years later i realized i could really sympathize with the character. when its all layed out and you see it in entirety you can see the build and the little notions like when he said "i didnt tell them your secret" or that "the drug will make this painless" he really was a pretty good villain. that being said i think the reintroduction in s5 was a bit forced,
This was perhaps THE most powerful scene in the entire series. Chuck really stepped up to the plate here.
Absolutely, and his arrest of Volkoff

This is easily the best scene in the series IMO. Chuck finally mans up and wins Sarah over for good.
What does IMO mean
ty
Chuck and Sarah compliment each other perfectly and are one of the greatest tv couples.
chuck won Sarah over in the pilot with the ballerina scene

I was watching Riverdale 4x14 and at the end, this song played. Instantly I remember this scene from Chuck, with the same song, that I would never forget. Love Chuck
what’s the name of it
For some reason I sympathise with Shaw during this scene.
Heijdelberger agreed
Thoughtful comment, but didn't his wife put her own life on the line by becoming an ally of that organization? SHE was the one who betrayed Shaw, not Sarah.
Some reason = he's handsome
God the writing in this show was so good.
I love the expression on Sarah face when she sees it's Chuck behind Shaw, like she knows she now has a shot not to die.. Chuck&Sarah =D
Fuck Chuck. I like Daniel better.
SONG: Antlers - Kettering
It is amazing how to TV series chose the best songs for each important moment.
i actually have to clue how many times i have rewatched this over and over again..
In the immortal words of Thanos, "Should have gone for the head."
I watched this show 3 times now in 2 months !!! This is the best show! And I love this scene
the music is so heartbreaking, I almost cried hearing this music chuck tried so hard and gave shaw every chance to come back from what he was doing. but after he killed his dad there was no going back.
@@Sharkman1963 yeah I always kinda felt bad for Shaw, even after this, until he killed Chuck’s dad. Then I hated him.
I watched the Chuck maybe fifteen times. Still, I could watch once more and I will certainly be ensure that my child is gonna watch also.
Ray NOOOOOO!!! XD
ahahahahahah arrow
I know this sounds very bad but i was so happy when this scene came... I ship Chuck and Sarah way to much
sameee
I've seen this scene numerous times, I can never get sick of it
Show how much he loved Sarah to willing to cross that line
I haven’t watched Chuck for years! So glad this video was on the recommendation section. Also, im here in 2019
2020!
Greatest scene ever. I get goosebumps as soon as he says "I dont wanna hurt you" and they dont go away until the end.
I agree so much with you. I've loved a lot of shows and movies, but moments of pure perfection are very few. This is one. The moment when Chuck is forced to leave his father during season 2 with Glasvegas as the music is another one.
Shaw WAS a good man. He had nothing against Sarah or Chuck or the US gov. He was just doing that for revenge. He's hateful though...cuz i love Sarah.
Aerielle Saguil. It started out that way but ended up differently
No he was not. They showed his violent tendencies constantly and how Sarah reacted to them. Remember when he punched and knocked out that guy for no reason and Sarah was shook
KR Yeah the guy was always an ass.
@@tatum2739 Rafe Gruber? iirc he smacked him cause he creeping on Sarah.
Great, great scene (the whole Paris part), very dramatic and well acted by all. One of the best in the whole series.
That time we got to see Shazam fight Superman.
I really liked Chuck. Wish it came back as a movie
This was just an amazing scene - emotional and haunting. Kettering fit the mood perfectly.
I dunno the real emotional impact i had is this was a major turning point for chuck it showed just how far he would go for sarah.
and i will say this series was one of the best written shows imo it knew when and what emotions to trigger itw as funny af when needed and really dramatic when needed as well.
Sarah can't move, but she can walk?!?! LMAO I love Chuck!
I just love how the scene begins : from Sarah's POV, seeing Chuck get his gun out while in disguise, as a piano version of the main theme starts playing... definitly one of the best part of this show.
Shazam/Captain Marvel kills Superman to save Batwoman.
I would have said Miranda.
When was she batwoman lol
@@darthekul1 in the game
She voiced her
honestly one of the best scenes of the whole show. Chills as I'm writing this.
They should have left it so that chuck actually killed Shaw in this scene .... sort of kills the emotion of the moment when it is revealed that he is still alive
A lot of fans agree with you.
Yeaaah I'm tired of this whole "come back to live" thing
Indeed.
And also this Scene reminds me everytime why Chuck was the Greatest TV Show ever made.
I learned english just to watch Chuck early than it was avaible here in Germany. And i have to say it was worthit every damn Second and i would do it again.
One of the best TV moments of recent history. Amazing episode.
Damn why did they have to do a fifth season? The should have leave it as it was!
Shazam Just killed Ray Palmer 😂😂😂
nah.. shazam kill superman.. 😂😂
I like how chuck used the gun in this episode it showed he wasn't afraid to pull the trigger when it meant saving Sarah
How did Shaw survive being shot.
@@donaldkelly9040 I think the ring must have saved him IDK
Yeah, but he also showed the weakness of his attitude when he has trouble pulling the trigger when Shaw doesn't obey his order to stand up. One of the cardinal rules of firearms use is that you never point a gun at someone and give them an order unless you're prepared to pull the trigger if necessary. That almost cost Chuck and Sarah their lives.
I came here thinking this was a Legends of Tomorrow clip, seeing "Ray Palmer" in the thumbnail, and thinking, "Who the heck are Chuck and Shaw?"
Characters from a highly underrated show.
@@Samuelpal19 I agree but re watching it I realise how cringy the product placement for was subway😂😂😂
@@epicmonkey6663 subway saved the show I ate a hell of lot of them during the campaign
I still can’t believe chuck actually pulled the trigger
For his love he had to
I can’t believe he didn’t pull it earlier. It was a hopeless situation from the start, he should have shot Shaw as soon as Chuck got to the bridge, instead of giving Shaw the chance to aim his weapon at him.
@@jasontim5858 ahw dude. Chuck was always optimistic and innocent . Of course he tried to give him another chance.
One of Shaw’s first bits of advice to Chuck was “I hate guns too, but it pays to know when to use one. Chuck even nodded
Funny that he’s also the only one to be shot by Chuck. Turns out he did know when to use one
2:36 Traffic light turns to red after Chuck yells stop.
Its now 2021 soon to be 2022 and I miss this show so much I just finished watching every season of chuck once again I can't stop watching it chuck is my favorite TV series I was only 8 years old when this show ended now I'm 17 almost 18 I wish there were more story to Sarah and chuck I really want another season or a couple movies made and I really want Sarah to get her memories back and I want to see Sarah and chuck buy there dream home together and have a family
how did this show have such a STACKED soundtrack ?
the minute he hears gunfire he thinks CASEY!... Awsome
I have watched the series 4 times over, but that was a couple of years ago
chuck has the best songs for moments like this
chuck underestimates everyone in this- because his love for sarah is greater than his own life
You might find this scene even more powerful if you had idea what the song playing is about..
What a good musical choice, by the way it's Kettering by The Antlers from their album Hospice.
Yeah the lyrics fit so well and the album is pretty nice alone too.
The music fits so well with the scene. Best scene of all time in Chuck.
Help me pls. What is the name of song playing at 1:20 till 1:45. I know that Tim Jones made soundtrack but i can't find this track.
This scene gave me chills the first time I watched it
Not only does the show kick A*s but so does the soundtrack to each episode! I freakin love this show!! Color me hooked :)
Funny how Shaw told Chuck to shoot him many times, but when he finally does it here. Then later, he's mad at Chuck for shooting him lol 😂
Shaw was taunting Chuck because Shaw tought Chuck would never do it.
From first glance, I couldn't tell them apart!
As much as ii sympathize with Shaw, I also think about the fact that Chuck gave up his position about guns and killing -the thing Sarah appreciated the most about his character- to keep her alive
2:07 That's about as close to a look of pure hatred on Chuck's face that I think we've ever seen. Or at least that's how I interpreted it.
The fact that Shaw came back after this is some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen in television. The writers of Chuck were never afraid to undermine their own storytelling
I swear I watched enough clips of chuck but the series alway surprised me so hilarious scenes! chuck wikipedia episode plot doesn't cut it!
The greatest Shazam/Capt. Marvel vs. Superman fight since "Kingdom Come"
the best villain, peak of the series
I have to say the roles that Brandon Routh has managed to get since his Superman days are pretty amazing. I forgot about him as Shaw on Chuck. Most recently he was the minority hater on The Rookie on ABC which was a very memorable character. I keep forgetting how many eye opening roles he has taken over time. This is one of the best scenes on Chuck.
Best scene of all 5 seasons!
Always found this scene powerful - especially with the choice of music
Song is called "kettering", by the antlers ^^
This is the best scene in the show 🤗
This scene and episode is a top contender for best one in the whole series. So powerful!
What season and episode
SHAZAM vs SUPERMAN!!!
didn't go so well for shazam last time
Shaw was the only villain in the whole series I wanted a redemption arc for.
The closest to Shazam vs Superman we'll ever get XD
i remember watching this and thinking Shaw was a bit of dork for holding onto something like this. on my second time through the show a few years later i realized i could really sympathize with the character. when its all layed out and you see it in entirety you can see the build and the little notions like when he said "i didnt tell them your secret" or that "the drug will make this painless" he really was a pretty good villain. that being said i think the reintroduction in s5 was a bit forced,
I just figured out that the guy playing Shaw is Brandon Routh. The guy who played Superman in "Superman Returns" xD
The music really makes this scene even better than it would of already been who got the music for chuck? Genius'
