Sarulf is amazing... One of my favorite commanders of all time... I built him as a golgari spell slinger... Almost no creatures in this deck... It's amazing against clue/treasure decks... Also run a lot of land destruction... It is a mean deck but it will surprise your opponents and the fear of the second ability makes them hesitant to play a lot of permanents...
Funny enough, I was looking for new ideas for decks but I played this video in the background WHILE SLEEVING MY BRUNA DECK 😂 I have an additional tip for you if yoh ever decide to do a full deck tech on this one: add the spirits and arcanas subthemes using Tallowisp Tallowisp allows you to search for an aura whenever you play a spirit or arcana and a ton of amazing payoffs for having multiple auras and going wide (Eidolon of coutless battles, Sovereigns of lost alara, Geist-honored monk, Ghostly dancer, Sage of Mysteries, Ribbons of the Reikai and more) I also use my graveyard as an extention of my hand so Mirror-Mad Phantasm and Dreadwaters send galf of my library into the graveyard and I just bring everything back with Bruna Still gotta give it a test but I'll update you on the results
Very underrated commander is Bruenor Battlehammer. It's possible to get him out on turn two and attach some zero mana cost equipment to him and swing for large damage as early as turn 3. He's already a 5 power and each equipment, regardless of what it adds as a bonus, gives him +2 power. Throw Kediss in the deck and I've seen him clean the table super fast. Commander damage is a thing with Bruenor, and if he gets a Colossus Hammer, with that free first equipment and the additional +2, wow!
A word of caution about Inniaz, the Gale Force: just becsuse the player with Inniaz thinks her ability is quirky and fun, that doesn't mean their opponents will. My brother made an Inniaz deck, but after playing a few games, we found this ability was actually just repeatable "removal" from the command zone. It's disruptive and generates a lot of heat from the table, heat that my brother's otherwise casual flying deck could not deal with. He's currently looking for a new commander that wont make him the arch enemy.
Sarulf is even worse, because it keeps exiling everything if it gets to stay around. I watched someone play it, everyone remove it to keep their own stuff, and the Sarulf player got super salty
@@SwedeRacerDC This. Inniaz and Sarulf were not 'forgotten', they were taken behind the shed and put down. Inniaz is the obnoxiousness of control, theft, and chaos rolled into one. Inniaz and Sarulf aren't 'quirky', they're just plain miserable. Sure, you don't HAVE to build around these abilities, but for anything else you COULD do with them there's a zillion commanders that can do it better.
I just built Astor and am still amazed he isn't more popular. Good with equipment and/or vehicles, and I imagine we are about to get a decent amount of new vehicles with Aetherdrift
I started in 2023 and my first deck was Sarulf, Realm Eater. It was a ~10€ deck from the Commanders Quarters and it won 1 game. It is still hated among my friends ;)
I loved Sarulf just because I thought he was super cool but his ability is really jank once you get into it. It’s such an easy fix, either remove the “At the beginning of your upkeep” line of text or remove the “from the battlefield” line of text. And ig if we want to go full degen remove both and make him a monster. Hopefully we get to see him again in a future set and he is better than he currently is. Justice for wolfo
Sarulf is very mean for casual pods. I used him pretty effectively I'm Brawl on Arena, but it didn't translate well to a multi-player format. I'd like to make a cEDH build I think it could be decent.
If I understand this right if your graveyard gets exiled while Tormod is on the field his ability also triggers MEANING that he basically counters graveyard hate
I "build" a Tormod + Kydele (cause its in Tabletop simulator cause cant afford real mtg, altough i dont believe its not that expensive if you take the most expensive cards: Hermit Druid and Field of Dead, leaving it at around 133$, originally costing like 230$ i believe), it revolves around token generation, draw, ramp, self mill and recursion. Maybe its not that powerfull but i find it quite entertenaing cause of the different gameplans you could have!
Yeah i build him as +1/+1 counter deck. And my playgroup always goes insane when he enters the field. Which could understand if i were about to nuke the board, but they don't seem to get that maybe I don't want to nuke my own😂. I Just really liked the idea of a wolf as commander and the north mythology vibe caught me too.
As someone who built sygg, he sucks. Anyone with a brain reads the card just solely attacks you. Also can we please stop spreading sarulf, no one likes to play against this shit it’s so unfun, there’s a reason you don’t see it being played.
@@chrislangbein6312 I agree that it's hard to trust Sarulf and it makes the game unfun. It would take some extreme political negotiation to convince me not to remove it b
I really don't think Sygg is anywhere near the biggest threat or worry at the table, but it depends how fast your meta is. Sygg takes a little more set up
@@kvdxx6603 That's not a huge deal when someone else has a Rhystic Studies and another player has a Esper Sentinel. It really depends on your group or the local "meta." I hate using that word in a casual game, but it does synthesize the idea that some people play very differently across the world. Even from one LGS to the next, they can have very different atmospheres
I like this format a lot! Enough examples and ideas to get me excited for the card without handing me a complete decklist
Super! :D
Nice picks!
Sygg is crazy 😮
Opponent: "Fetch into Schock. End turn"
Sygg: "Draw"
Thanks! Yes that’s such a cool point! Sygg is great :)

What mass land destruction is there in BG? theres sinkhole and mwonvuli acid moss for single target but almost all of the good MLD is in RW
@@Cynidecia never said mass... Run spells that blow up lands or run lands that blow up lands and crucible of worlds.
@allanholman8302 Ah. Thats honestly pretty solid, like Ponza.
@Cynidecia yeah... I don't really use the second ability much... It's basically a voltron build... Extremely underrated...
NICE! Do you have a deck list buddy?
Nice Video, thanks for the inspiration.
Brago the King Eternal is a commander u dont see a lot. At least in my LGS
Thanks for watching! Ah yes Brago! He can be a real menacing commander! The flicker/blink king!

Ill be honest i watch your videos/shorts all the time but wasnt subbed until now. Subscribed!! I love the unusual/unique commander ideas. Keep it up!
That’s great! Thanks for subbing 🤩⭐️
I love your videos. I wish we could get some 15-20 minute deck techs on all these. 🎉
Glad you like them! Yes I need to try and do some deck techs!

I love Tormod paired with Kamahl heart of Krosa.
Oh nice! Buffing up those tokens sounds fun!

I turned my Inniaz deck into a full-blown Azorius chaos deck for that reason.

Tormod is my favorite deck by a mile, got a revolving door of zombies to trigger aristocrats pieces over and over
Sweet! 🍬 do you have a deck list?
@CosmicMangoMTG dang man I keep trying to post it but the link keeps vanishing. I'll keep at it though
Sarulf just says "KILL ME WITH FIRE".
Which is about as good as it sounds.
Haha nooooo

That’s an awesome commander!
An fun idea would also be to use pump spells on Sarulf during the upkeep to surprise opponents and get a high mana value board wipe
Sarulf's board wipe ability counts the number of counters that are removed, not his power.
Hi! :D Very nice idea, however as stated in the reply above - I think Sarulf can only use its counters to activate that ability.

I prefer Tormod in the 99 of Zul Ashur, a little bonus zombie whenever you recast one.

sarulf seems fun for sure

One awesome looking commander right?
@ it has been my computer background since its release.

From experience Sarulf is underplayed because it's a massive target and will struggle to stick to the board.
I tried though, that art is too good.
I watched someone play this and it never stuck around. Nobody wanted all of their stuff exiled. That person was super salty
@ as a more mature player now I get it though haha
