Only time I tried to listen to that was when I was incredibly depressed after dropping out of school in 2019 and I noped out after about 15 minutes cause I just couldn't handle it though I understood why people like it so much. As of now I don't really have any desire to listen to it again tbh but that might change eventually.
The Sound off Soundtracks for the Blind is the single most moving piece of music I’ve ever heard in my entire life. It brought me to tears the first time I listened to it. Next time you listen to Soundtracks I think you should keep in mine what the concept is behind the album, it makes it a little bit easier to get through. Michael Gira wanted to make an album similar to Brian Eno’s Film Music, which is essentially an album for a movie that doesn’t exist. When you listen to Soundtracks you’re supposed to create the imagery yourself. When I listen to it I usually try to imagine myself traveling through some sort of wormhole with the dark ambient tracks being the foggy wormhole and the more cohesive songs being clear vivid set pieces or stories that the wormhole takes me to. Then you get sucked right back up into the darkness. It’s truly an album that exudes the most extreme positive and negative feelings. I also recommend you check out Swans Are Dead. It’s a live album that accompanies Soundtracks. The live version of Blood Promise is just as beautifully transcendent as The Sound and Helpless Child.
Heaven or Las Vegas is more chill, love the album, also, if u want something more depressing in the "shoegazey" realm, try deathconsciousness, cry, then thank me lol
It's funny hearing you describe Pet Sounds as Beach Boys' Sgt Peppers. Literally the Beatles wrote Sgt Peppers as a response to Pet Sounds. McCartney was like, "Oh snap, the game just got upped. We need to dig deep to keep up with these Beach Boys". Sgt Peppers came out the year after Pet Sounds.
King Crimson has such a vivid discography, I really hope you’re able to get into them. In the Wake of Poseidon is very similar to Court in its format. I will say, 80s Crimson while on a totally different vibe, blew me away.
Honestly the only king crimson album that I dont consider good is the power to believe, aside from the title tracks theres not much going for it. Other than that their discog is great
an album similar to spiderland for me in terms of atmosphere and sound is laughing stock by talk talk. it came out the same year as spiderland and has a lot of similar sounds and emotions albeit with a less distorted and more jazzy sound. definitely recommend it
A very obvious one that sounds like, spiderland is black country, new roads debut for the first time they even joke about being a Slint tribute act in science fair I think.
This is the fourth time today has talked about spiderland unrelated to what is going on in my day. I saw it on Twitter a friend recommended it, saw it mentioned on Reddit and now you just talked about it. I should probably put it on a future listen playlist
@@KyleReidMu I’m kind of all over the place. I was actually playing on listening to The Who for the first time today, but I’ll make sure to leave some time to listen to the Spiderland album.
@@normalguy4548 Please let me know what you think of it when you check it out. I think it can take a little time to get into so I'm curious to know how your first listen goes
@@KyleReidMu currently 30 minutes into the album and I’m enjoying it. In terms of difficulty to listen and understand, it’s a very easy album to listen to and enjoy. I’ve never had the difficulty of being unable of getting into a great album. Definitely one of the best albums I’ve heard. I don’t listen to Post Rock at all really, I can probably count the amount of post rock albums I’ve listened to on my hand (including this album) never had the will to listen to post rock b/c the name of the genre sounds weird (what could post rock possibly mean?) But I’ll definitely check out more post rock albums b/c of you. Thanks.
I'm glad you're enjoying the album Sidney! Definitely check out Black Country, New Road if you haven't. They're a newer post rock band from the UK that takes a lot of influence from Slint (at least on their first album, I think the second album stirs away from that but it's still REALLY good)
PLEASE listen to weatherday if you havent. their Come In album consumed my life for a time and still is. the opening track made me headbang harder than anything else Ive heard on first listen
My beautiful dark twisted fantasy is like my favourite album of all time and hearing you rip on it made me wanna scream. Anyway great video will probably check the rest out too
@@KyleReidMu i will! Im always down to check new music, it might be cool to check out kanyes other stuff as his discography is quite varied, espicially album to album
These are very influential albums for most bands. Especially Loveless. A whole genre was made from that album. Also, am scared of 4chan too. Ps. AnCo is rad.
I am Happy to see the Slint Cover :) Right before I heard Spiderland again since a long time! And now I See this Video... perfect Timing and great Album:)
Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future music in the background mmm. Jet Set Radio Future is in my top 5 favourite games of all time probably I love it, also love the original
@@KyleReidMu Honestly the Jet Set Radio soundtracks are like the only video game soundtracks I actually listen to outside the context of playing the games themselves and this is coming from someone who loves gaming. not only that the game’s themselves are incredible and I don’t think I have decided on one game I decided that is my all time favourite but Jet Set Radio Future is definitely in my top 5 favourite games of all time if I made a top 5 list
Pet Sounds is my favorite album ever - I’d suggest listening to the stereo version when you can. The appeal behind it (for me at least) is the gorgeous harmony, the super detailed instrumentation, and the Mood. Stereo makes that clearer for me. The more you listen, the better it gets as you notice all the intricacies. Totally understandable if it’s not fully your jam though tbh; seems like it bores a lot of people
I listened to both versions before making this video but I agree, the stereo version feels more full in sound. I liked it but it just doesn't seem like something I can see myself jamming to often
Spiderland heavily influenced a lot of other Louisville bands so I'd suggest maybe checking out some bands like Rodan, Shipping News, and June of 44. But ultimately these are just influenced by them, so i guess Spiderland remains a unique achievement.
King Crimson is so good. I hope you check out their other albums. Highly recommend Larks, Red, and Discipline. But honestly, listen to them all damn it!! Super worth it.
Lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven is my favorite album of all time. Listening to it after a long time kinda recharges my energy and gives me will to live. I wish I was friends with someone who enjoyed that kind of music
If you want more stuff like Spiderland, Black Country, New Road is a good place to start. Especially their latest album Ants From Up There. Maybe listen to Xiu Xiu cover the Twin Peaks soundtrack too.
I really enjoy the court of the crimson king, it’s a really good album. Ironically I’m not a a huge fan of I talk to the wind, but probably one of my favorites on the album is moonchild. It’s so atmospheric I love it. The lyrics intro is great and always makes me imagine the lyrics. The rest of the song is also really cool, I just really enjoy the song.
some may say its a bad thing because of the website it comes from (4chan) but these albums make the list for a reason. that reason being bc theyre legitimately memorable and amazing records.
An album that keeps getting better for me is Patrick Wolf's album: The Wind In The Wires. It's kind of a concept album: after the media circus of his first album he took off to a seaside shack and wrote and recorded his second album in isolation, and it's just a really fantastic album.
Very cool video. Slint is one of my favorite bands of all time and each member was involved with some pretty unique stuff outside of the Slint project. Dave Pajo has great solo work on Live From a Shark Cage and Whatever Mortal, and Brian helmed another similar project called The For Carnation, both worth checking out. For a peer into the more avant- side of music coming out around that time, US Maple, MX-80, and Storm & Stress are also very important and fun listens.
That’s awesome! I didn’t know the members of slint were involved in other projects so thanks for letting me know that. I’m glad you liked the video and thank you for the recs :)
Maximillian Colby's full discography (it's all compiled as part of an anthology and is in circulation as of this comment's typing since it's so short) is a good place to start when it comes to Slint-like bands Others i'd recommend would really have to run the gamut of: Hurl (A Place Called Today) Engine Kid (Angel Wings) Boys Life (Departures & Landfalls) Kerosene 454 -- for this i recommend their subsequent albums and especially their last two Hoover (Lurid Traversal of Route 7) Hope i've done you a service with a few of these!
I love Trout Mask Replica but it took a lot of listens to get into it. I'd recommend listening to Shiny Beast, Ice Cream for Crow or Doc at the Radar Station by Captain Beefheart first. They're more accessible albums so helps you to ease into what they're going for.
Here’s a few records to check out if you like Spiderland: Moss Icon - Lyburnum Wits End Liberation Fly (or discography collection) Shellac - At Action Park 1000 Hurts Rodan - Rusty June of 44 - Four Great Points (LP) Anatomy of Sharks (EP) Codeine - The White Birch Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die Mogwai - Come On Die Young Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You Big Ups - Before a Million Universes
Considering what you’ve said about Antennas to Heaven I strongly suggest you to listen to Slow Riot for New Zero Canada. It’s short, sweet and gets straight to a point. Much easier entry to gy!be discography imo
In the court of the crimson King is a great album to start with King Crimson. You should definately check out their 70s and 80s albums. Also since you mentioned the album sounding like a soundtrack for a movie, the movie children of men uses the title track for a great scene.
@@KyleReidMu King Crimson changed their sound every decade, so there's a lot of variations. As for the movie, I dont want to spoil anything, but the main story is that in the near future women suddenly cant get children anymore because of some sort of disease. It's worth to watch for the uninterrupted long shots alone, also there is a pink floyd reference in there.
I'd hugely recommend listening to Red by King Crimson, many fans argue its better than Court of the Crimson King, but I think both have their strengths and weaknesses. But Starless is probably a top 100 or 10 song of all time.
Although I’ve heard some albums with Spiderland similarities, I’ve yet to hear one that’s scratches the same musical itch. Perfect balance of post hardcore/ post rock that I never knew I needed.
The pacing of Remain in Light is fantastic. Starts with its most upbeat and careless track with intense energy, then with each successive track it gets just a bit more sinister to the point where the second half of the album is full of these depressive and thought provoking slow-burners. The Overload is IMMENSE, and I love how it closes off the album on a really dour note that you didn't even realize the first few tracks were lyrically setting up, and I love how they kind of nailed the Joy Division sound without ever hearing a Joy Division song.
Have never seen any of your content before but I loved this, an absolute masterpiece of a video and your opinions and commentary are really interesting. And if you want another album like Spiderland the closest thing I’ve ever heard is “For the first time” from Black Country, New Road (though the band’s second album which is albeit a lot different but is genuinely one of the best albums I’ve ever heard).
@@KyleReidMu oh no way mine too! My other favorite from that year was Twin Plagued by Wednesday (which I would also highly recommend). Excited to see what content you come up with next!
had the opportunity to see Slint live like seven years ago. also saw Adrian Belew (King Crimson). Don't know if that will ever happen again. Both shows were awesome.
when remain in light was made, there was this thing called vinyl, and it has two sides, so often albums would be split into two different vibes around the middle, so you could play each side depending on your mood
Really cool video, in terms of Soundtracks for the Blind, it’s much better with the context that it was supposed to be the band’s final album and was supposed to be a combination of all their different sounds and eras they had gone through. While a lot of people start off with SFTB, myself included, I think it’s not really the best starting place and that a better one would be either White Light From the Mouth of Infinity or The Great Annihilator, both wonderful albums, that I’d highly recommend
the song in the court of the crimson kind or literally feels like ur watching the scene of dune 2021 of like the desert itself and the giant worms there swallowing the ship. you feel so small and insignifigant
An album that kinda reminds me of spiderland is Rusty by Rodan. It isn’t 1 on 1 and Rusty has a more distorted sound but I highly recommend if you’re a fan of spiderland!
resident math rock expert here, if you want a spiderland like band/album try enablers, I would start with Output Negative Space! Good luck and if you need more recommendations make sure to ask me!
the most blasphemous take in this video is that the last 3 minutes of runaway ruin the song. that is exactly what elevates it to MASTERPIECE material imo
imo LSD and the Search for God is pretty similar to Loveless, also pretty shoegaze-ey. I really love that EP/artist. Check it out if you're interested :)
American Footballs debut is incredible, one of my all time favorites, cool to see you enjoyed it. Also I agreed with your take on my beautiful dark twisted fantasy. Loved the video, a few records I really like were talked about.
As you said that if anyone knows another band like Slint, I strongly recommend listening to Aerial M - Aerial M, which is a project of David Pajo from Slint. You probably know them but just in case.
If you like Spiderland you should check out Shellac, it’s a noise band similar (but not identical) to Slint fronted by legendary producer Steve Albini, it’s a bit more experimental than Spiderland but has a similar atmosphere.
Soundtracks for the Blind BAYBEEEEEE Definitely revisit it sometime. It's a lot to take though I know. Definitely one of my all-time favorite albums though
For me, loveless isn't great for background music because it automatically grabs all you attentions and distracts from other works I do so, anything else but loveless...
The way Trout Mask Replica grew on me is nuts. Idk, just getting into more jazz stuff in general, it makes way more sense and is dope. I rarely ever listen to it, but when I do, 🤯
You can do a bit of googling to find some of Slint’s influences (punk and hardcore adjacent stuff like Wire and Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Leonard Cohen apparently, they covered Neil Young’s Cortez the Killer, and I think I remember hearing that they liked jazz from that documentary), but some less obvious albums that personally come to mind when I think of Spiderland (some because of the guitar or drums, their textural and evocative nature, and others that give you a religious experience) are Talk Talk - Laughing Stock, Can - Future Days, Duster - Stratosphere, Dismemberment Plan - Emergency and I, The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground (namely What Goes On’s bee swarm guitar assault, the heavens are falling wait no I’m ascending ho - ly), Sun City Girls - Torch of the Mystics, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 - Strangers from the Universe, Andy Boay - So So So We See/ Trenches in the Sun (this one is rare and I have no idea how I found it but I do know that he absorbed Florida sun and Animal Collective, got zoinked out of his noggin and this is the result), Sun Ra - Lanquidity, and Nick Drake - Pink Moon. Also, Animal Collective! I witnessed them play in downtown LA at The Ace Hotel during their 2018 Sung Tongs Tour. Thank God someone had the foresight to record it and put it online, it introduced me to the Prospect Hummer EP with Vashti Bunyan and in turn her twee pastoral-folk classic Diamond Day which you should check out if you haven’t. Also before AC the members released a great Pavement inspired slow-core EP under the name Automine called Paddington Band, which reminds me of Slint and the smell of wet concrete (petrichor I believe). Side note(s(s)), funnily enough I’m living in Kentucky a street away from the road where the Tweez album cover was taken (according to my friend (who I met in guitar class this year also funnily enough because he happened to hear me playing Breadcrumb Trail) who funnily enough met Will Oldham at a skatepark, who was in the car on the album cover, but I can’t find any information about it’s location online). When I moved here last year I remember driving across a cold KY with a grey sky above me, sedimentary rocks bordering the road, skeletal trees as far as the eye could see and Spiderland playing loud as hell sealing the deal. I’d imagine that type of energy had something to do with their sound. Fantastic album.
Soundtracks for the Blind is probably my favorite album of all time. I can never listen to it all in one sitting though, I usually listen to disc 1 and disc 2 as if they're seperate albums.
If you haven't already, you should check out the self-titled album by The For Carnation, Brian McMahan's post-Slint band's only full length. It's such a beautiful (and unfairly overlooked/underrated) record, I may even like it more than Spiderland.
I know hella great records that are in that spiderland lane, most post rock n post hardcore from the 90s will give you moments of this sound. But for good recommendations, I'd say check out -june of 44- first 2 records -shipping news- very soon and in pleasent company - hood - rustic houses - bark psychosis - u.s. maple - talker And - sprain - as lost through collision
Check out For The First Time by Black Country New Road, it's compared to Spiderland alot because it clearly draws influence from it, but what makes it so great is how it takes those influences and transforms it into something that sounds both familiar and completely original at the same time. Best way I can describe it as a whole is a gen-z flavored experimental rock joyride
For The First Time was my album of the year last year! I absolutely adore that album. Ants From Up There was great too. It has a good chance of being my favorite from this year but good lord we're getting some great music this year haha
If you like Spiderland, go listen to Unwound. Leaves Turn Inside You didn't click with me first time, but I kept going back and now it's my fav album ever. It has that same gothic tints and emo/post hardcore influences.
If you like Slint, you've gotta listen to For The First Time by Black Country, New Road, and Schlagenheim by Black Midi (especially the onus track, 7-Eleven). Slint has been a huge influence on a slew of post-punk bands coming out of Britain right now.
The best I can do for Spiderland-esque is Exploded Drawing by Polvo. Scratches that post-rock itch but it’s more math-rock and I’d say more outright angsty than Slint
@@KyleReidMu If I, a retired /mu/tant can give you any advice on Trout Mask Replica, I suggest approaching it for fun. Many people fixate on its complexity, which is rewarding, but the spirit of TMR is silly hippie fun times :)

Helpless Child and animus are also amazing songs)
Dude ya /mu/ does have a fantastic music taste despite all the memes. If I remember correctly, the longer songs from SFTB were some of my favorites off of the record

Souvlaki has been on my list of albums to check out for a while now. Definitely need to check that out along with Larks Tongues
larks tongues in aspic is INCREDIBLE
@@KyleReidMu also heaven or Las Vegas. Maybe more dream pop than shoegaze but they’re still similar in terms of the atmosphere they create
@@tucker8904 I love that album!! Really catchy melodies on there
Heaven or Las Vegas is more chill, love the album, also, if u want something more depressing in the "shoegazey" realm, try deathconsciousness, cry, then thank me lol
So close to getting you to talk about The Glow, Pt.2. So close.
One day..
That makes sense! Thanks for sharing :)
King Crimson has such a vivid discography, I really hope you’re able to get into them. In the Wake of Poseidon is very similar to Court in its format. I will say, 80s Crimson while on a totally different vibe, blew me away.
Awesome! I'll definitely end up diving into their discography at some point. They seem like a very talented and influential band
Honestly the only king crimson album that I dont consider good is the power to believe, aside from the title tracks theres not much going for it. Other than that their discog is great
an album similar to spiderland for me in terms of atmosphere and sound is laughing stock by talk talk. it came out the same year as spiderland and has a lot of similar sounds and emotions albeit with a less distorted and more jazzy sound. definitely recommend it
Ooo sounds interesting! Will definitely check that out

A very obvious one that sounds like, spiderland is black country, new roads debut for the first time they even joke about being a Slint tribute act in science fair I think.
I love BCNR! Their debut was my favorite album of last year!
Ending of runaway is the best part
Idk I just don't vibe with it
True
This is the fourth time today has talked about spiderland unrelated to what is going on in my day. I saw it on Twitter a friend recommended it, saw it mentioned on Reddit and now you just talked about it. I should probably put it on a future listen playlist
Dude PLEASE listen to it! Not sure what you're into normally but it's definitely worth checking out
@@KyleReidMu I’m kind of all over the place.
Come In is a fantastic album!
Come in such a beautiful album! Nothing hits as hard as those cuckoo clock sounding noises on water dreamer the same, it's so fucking addictive

@@KyleReidMu i will! Im always down to check new music, it might be cool to check out kanyes other stuff as his discography is quite varied, espicially album to album
F# A# is god tier music, probably the best Godspeed album.
Also your jokes in the captions of photos in this video were great
Thanks Kate! F# A# is incredible
Spiderland is incredible. I'm glad the timing of this video lines up perfectly for you haha!
For a long time that was my favorite album of all time.
It is definitely a really good Album. But its one of this albums that you must listen in a special mood. Especially the last song hits the feelings..
@@jonathankruse9275 Yes, the fact that some teenagers did that album still amazes me to this day.
Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future music in the background mmm. Jet Set Radio Future is in my top 5 favourite games of all time probably I love it, also love the original
Those soundtracks are incredible!
Love your style of talking about this stuff, I bet you're gonna get way bigger, keep up the good work.
Thanks Sebastian! I appreciate that :)
Have fun with the King Crimson discog, they've got some fun ass albums. Highly recommend 'Red'
@@KyleReidMu 'God Only Knows' is one of the best songs ever recorded imo.
@@pizzatime2001 Paul McCartney's favourite song too !
@@ytcorporate9237 I can definitely see why. Pet Sounds was a big influence on Sgt Pepper.
Spiderland heavily influenced a lot of other Louisville bands so I'd suggest maybe checking out some bands like Rodan, Shipping News, and June of 44. But ultimately these are just influenced by them, so i guess Spiderland remains a unique achievement.
I'll definitely check some of those bands out. Thanks for the rec!

Woah your yearly Spiderland relisten is on my birthday so cool
King Crimson is so good. I hope you check out their other albums. Highly recommend Larks, Red, and Discipline. But honestly, listen to them all damn it!! Super worth it.
I'd say if Crash Thompson (I like his channel by the way) made a htgi king crimson, those four albums would be the must listens
Love me some Black Country, New Road! For The First Time was my favorite album from last year! I gotta listen to more Xiu Xiu for sure
Moonchild was probably my least favorite but that's not saying much because I love the whole album haha. I find that track super interesting though
i don’t know if it’s a good thing or bad thing that a lot of my favorite music is apart of this list
some may say its a bad thing because of the website it comes from (4chan) but these albums make the list for a reason. that reason being bc theyre
legitimately memorable and amazing records.
Ya I agree with Wilo. There's a reason that most of my favorites are talked about in this video. They are genuinely great albums
This twelve year old has a great future on UA-cam. Great video.
Lmao thanks!
Maximillian Colby's full discography (it's all compiled as part of an anthology and is in circulation as of this comment's typing since it's so short) is a good place to start when it comes to Slint-like bands
Others i'd recommend would really have to run the gamut of:
Hurl (A Place Called Today)
Engine Kid (Angel Wings)
Boys Life (Departures & Landfalls)
Kerosene 454 -- for this i recommend their subsequent albums and especially their last two
Hoover (Lurid Traversal of Route 7)
Hope i've done you a service with a few of these!
This is awesome! Thank you so much!
great video!! really entertaining :P the jsr music in the bg really adds to the experience, 10/10~
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The jsr music is a staple on this channel :)
Very exciting for an old guy like me who actually grew up with most of these old albums that you're reviewing quite favorably
I love Trout Mask Replica but it took a lot of listens to get into it. I'd recommend listening to Shiny Beast, Ice Cream for Crow or Doc at the Radar Station by Captain Beefheart first. They're more accessible albums so helps you to ease into what they're going for.
Sounds good! I'll have to check out those projects along with listening to TMR more
Safe as milk is a good starting point aswell

Sweet! Thank you
In the court of the crimson King is a great album to start with King Crimson. You should definately check out their 70s and 80s albums. Also since you mentioned the album sounding like a soundtrack for a movie, the movie children of men uses the title track for a great scene.
I haven't checked out their other stuff yet but I'm really excited to! I'll have to check out that movie, what is it about?
@@KyleReidMu King Crimson changed their sound every decade, so there's a lot of variations.
As for the movie, I dont want to spoil anything, but the main story is that in the near future women suddenly cant get children anymore because of some sort of disease.
It's worth to watch for the uninterrupted long shots alone, also there is a pink floyd reference in there.
it's hard to encapsulate all of King Crimson with one album lmao
Ya I need to check out more of their stuff
Good video. You should make a part 2 in the future
Thank you Sean! I want to dive deeper into the essential chart in the future
I'd hugely recommend listening to Red by King Crimson, many fans argue its better than Court of the Crimson King, but I think both have their strengths and weaknesses. But Starless is probably a top 100 or 10 song of all time.
ypur tier list in this video is my whole ranking system lately, I need to take a break lol
Although I’ve heard some albums with Spiderland similarities, I’ve yet to hear one that’s scratches the same musical itch. Perfect balance of post hardcore/ post rock that I never knew I needed.
Leaves Turn Inside You is on the same wavelength imo
Aww thanks Elliot! I really appreciate that. For The First Time was my favorite album from last year :)
@@KyleReidMu oh no way mine too! My other favorite from that year was Twin Plagued by Wednesday (which I would also highly recommend). Excited to see what content you come up with next!

when remain in light was made, there was this thing called vinyl, and it has two sides, so often albums would be split into two different vibes around the middle, so you could play each side depending on your mood
What's even more interesting is that vinyl still exists! Haha but ya I guess that makes sense as to why there's a sudden mood shift
that doesn't change that the latter half is a drag to listen to

Really cool video, in terms of Soundtracks for the Blind, it’s much better with the context that it was supposed to be the band’s final album and was supposed to be a combination of all their different sounds and eras they had gone through. While a lot of people start off with SFTB, myself included, I think it’s not really the best starting place and that a better one would be either White Light From the Mouth of Infinity or The Great Annihilator, both wonderful albums, that I’d highly recommend
I started from filth and onwards and I can definitely say that is the best way to listen to soundtracks

the most blasphemous take in this video is that the last 3 minutes of runaway ruin the song. that is exactly what elevates it to MASTERPIECE material imo

As you said that if anyone knows another band like Slint, I strongly recommend listening to Aerial M - Aerial M, which is a project of David Pajo from Slint. You probably know them but just in case.
I don't know them. Thank you for the suggestion!
If you like Spiderland you should check out Shellac, it’s a noise band similar (but not identical) to Slint fronted by legendary producer Steve Albini, it’s a bit more experimental than Spiderland but has a similar atmosphere.
Soundtracks for the Blind BAYBEEEEEE
Definitely revisit it sometime. It's a lot to take though I know. Definitely one of my all-time favorite albums though
Since you asked for albums that sound like Spiderland: A Minor Forest - Flemish Altruism
For me, loveless isn't great for background music because it automatically grabs all you attentions and distracts from other works I do so, anything else but loveless...
BTW did you try any of Bright Eyes album? Please let me know how was it...
lol yup that's exactly why it didn't work for me. I haven't tried any Bright Eyes yet, I need to though!
The way Trout Mask Replica grew on me is nuts. Idk, just getting into more jazz stuff in general, it makes way more sense and is dope. I rarely ever listen to it, but when I do, 🤯

"if I refer to it as m-u instead of myu, m-maybe they'll believe me that I dont browse 4chan."

😳
Black country, new road are pretty much British slint... Or "the second best slint tribute Act"

Faraquet is not talked about enough for how amazing that album is
If you like Slint, you've gotta listen to For The First Time by Black Country, New Road, and Schlagenheim by Black Midi (especially the onus track, 7-Eleven). Slint has been a huge influence on a slew of post-punk bands coming out of Britain right now.
Both of those albums are incredible! Super excited for the new Black Midi album coming out!
The best I can do for Spiderland-esque is Exploded Drawing by Polvo. Scratches that post-rock itch but it’s more math-rock and I’d say more outright angsty than Slint
Awesome! I know someone else recently mentioned Polvo, I'll check it out
They are also from the era where indie was hard and angry and noisy, like early Modest Mouse. Not the same style exactly but aggressive like it.

@@KyleReidMu If I, a retired /mu/tant can give you any advice on Trout Mask Replica, I suggest approaching it for fun. Many people fixate on its complexity, which is rewarding, but the spirit of TMR is silly hippie fun times :)
I love The Money Store but Bottomless Pit is my personal favorite album by them mainly because it has more of a rock/guitar based sound to it.
Great vid I enjoyed it bcs it made me remember stuff I havent listened to in a while lol. I think mu is memed quite a bit but God damnnn the music it "promoted" I guess is so fucking good. "Red" (King Crimson)
"Souvlaki"
"Wish You Were Here"
"To Be Kind" & "The Glowing Man"
