How do I Speak with People who Believe the Rebbe is Moshiach? - Ask the Rabbi Live with Rabbi Mintz

Two weeks ago I spent Shabbos by a Chabad family. I asked innocently when the Lubavitcher Rebbe passed away? (June 12, 1994 btw). He hinted that he did not believe the Rebbe had died, but did not say his beliefs openly that he was still alive as to cause a hostility. In general, and this can happen many times and in different forms, how should one deal with these type of situations when he or she is confronted?
