Thank you for all the tire talk. I agree that it is based on the vehicle and where you wheel makes a big difference. A UA-camr recently got feed up with the “best” tire because of sidewall failures!!😂
Hey. I’m an old guy who grew in Belleville Ont in the seventies. I “wheeled” all over the area you’re from in clapped out trucks jeeps and scouts to get to awesome backcountry fishing lakes. Skidder trails and bush trails were where we wheeled. I’ve followed you since you were on Jesses show. Big fan.
Love to hear the question/ answer time. I had asked on a previous video about the Ontario plate but now know that you are from Canada. Awesome to know you are a Canadian as well. 🤟😎
I really dig your Q&A stuff and I may have to order a coffee mug. I really liked the crawler hauler project. Would you ever do something like that again?
Quickly turning into one of my favorite channels. You do a great job of explaining your builds, kinda like you had a career as a teacher in the past 😉 thanks for what you do bro!
That was such a long answer for the tire question lol But the information was amazing! Absolutely totally true. More people need to hear that info! Thanks for more quality content.
Very solid and logical advice. There might be a best tire for a specific vehicle, but not an overall best tire for all vehicles. I have the Maxxis RZR on my 4 door JL with heavy steel armor and tools/gear and I based that on watching other similar weight and wheelbase vehicles perform with them. I hoping they work better on wet muddy rocks than my soft sided and puncture prone MSP 38's did.
Interesting & well done comments on tires. For a 4dr. Rubicon I've used Nitto MT grapplers, on a 2 door Rubicon a tire store owner recommended BF Goodrich Duratrac (betweeen a mud tire & AT); lighter weight vehicle doesn't need the MT when climbing or wheeling on rock. (I use to have MT's on that vehicle). I see so many options for vehicle owners. If a vehicle is often or regularly being driven on paved roads, I personally think an AT tire is the best option. I've seen reviews listing 6-10 of the supposed best options for off road riding & realize some get very connected to brands.
Mud bog rules lol to each his own but I love mud trails, minimum maintenance roads with silk beds , and snow , don’t get much rocks around our area, unless we go to black hills, another great vido, I run Irocks, and super swampers, run Patagonia’s and other mud tread tires, have a hard time with prices of pit bulls , and nitto, maby some day
I agree with your thinking- build it, beat it, wash it, take it to cruise night. I have never understood those that don't drive their hobby vehicles often, even the high end builds.
Hi Ian, been a fan from the very first following you from network to network, production company to production company to UA-cam. I've enjoyed these Q and A, and behind the scenes videos and all the stories. Particularly learning you were a teacher. That explains your skill at telling us the what and why while you are building. Question; what ever happened to the Crawler Hauler Isuzu cab over Cummins swapped 4x4 converted stretched flat bed? It was almost complete and then disappeared without a conclusion episode showing the finished truck in action.
The defender is one of my top 3 projects and I loved the start of the bronco. Glad you brought those up. Would love to run into you in Kentucky sometime in the defender. We should run hell for certain and Cohen creek.
Love the local bourbon recommendation back in February. What is your favorite bourbon? Tire usage is different for east coast vs west coast. Alot of east coast don't use stickies, where alot more would use them on the west coast. IMO.
Love the videos keep them coming. Quick question who are the people who help you complete these projects on a day to day basis? We see them in the background but never really get a proper introduction.
Hey. Not sure where to post questions but just listening to this post great advice but sounds like you better come back north to Ontario. The Calibogie scene is getting pretty good and right up your alley destination wheeling. So my question is when you going to come wheel with the Ottawa valley off-roaders in the valley ! Thx Ian
"Where is it now?" Overland expedition WJ I loved that you worked on a relatively modern at the time Grand Cherokee. Even bought the Rusty's Offroad suspension system for my 04 WJ. What would you do differently with that rig?
Everybody that knows the only correct answer is "Thornbirds". The free tire discussion instantly made me think of Nate's Milestar sidewall trash fiasco.
Hey Ian, as always - great video, it's learning stuff from you that keeps me out of the shop - lol!!! Now I know what tire to use, what thickness metal do I use to stiffen my frame on the XJ build? I plan to do Mild wheel'in & some rock crawl'in, 37's, Dana 60 front, Corp. 14 in back. Maybe Moab Rim, Metal Masher. Also, can you help me understand "wheel track", what wheel off set I need for the steering to work properly? Thanks for your help & giving me all your knowledge about building stuff!!!
Hi Ian, been watching for years. Can you let us know what happen to the rear engine tube buggy build. I was interested in how the rear suspension linkage worked out with the horizontal shock mount.
Great info as always. Do you ever get jaded with all the access you have to parts, tools, dream builds? Not saying you don’t work hard for what you have, but does the level of accessibility take some of the excitement away?
what happened to the Honda powered roll cage buggy with Toyota axles from your previous show. that's what i what to build but use a Prius so you can cruze silently through the woods
Ian, watching all your videos and shows My question is what Safety Glasses are you wearing? In many it is not clear you are wearing while grinding. How many times have you had slivers get into your eyes and what do you or the doctors do to remove them? Please add this to my earlier question on How You Landed in the Great State of Tennessee.
So I’m in the slow process of building a 91 Yota and I plan on running a narrowed 60 front and a 9 inch rear on 37/40 inch tire range, I was looking at the speedway motor 9 inch rears because you can get them in multiple widths ect. Would I be better paying extra for a moser 9 or do you think the speedway will hold up ? Didn’t know if you ever ran any of there axle products
With IFS, would you consider using completely different tires front vs rear? I feel like the corner weights are a lot different front and rear on my Taco, and obviously they're two totally different suspension setups.
Hi Ian followed you builds through the years on all your platforms. In building so many different rigs what's your thoughts on coilovers/ ORI's VS coil springs on a rig mostly for wheeling? example Jeep LJ 3 link/4 link 37s are they worth the investment? Truck used in trails and rock in Ontario, Canada. Thanks
Yes, more on the ORI vs other options would be great. I'm currently collecting parts for my next build and debating exactly what suspension will go under it. Thinking I'll go leaf for the retro vibe (60s Rover) but ORIs are very intriguing.
hey Ian i have been watching you from the beginning of your TV start. will always follow you love your builds and enthusiasm! what is your best recommendation for camping gear to get started on some short wheeling trips? the on truck style tents seem so great i would love to try that but they are also so expensive what would you recommend for a budget?
Hey Ian. Fellow Canadian here. Loving these q&a and chanel content in general my question is, if a wheeler has a perfectly functioning and sorted out trail rig on Leaf Springs, would you suggest that it is worth it, cost and time-wise, to upgrade to Link and Coils?
What is a good 20 - 25K winch for a heavy truck like mine? I use my rig as a support vehicle to pull out over confident freinds out and idiots in ditches and once a full bus of kids who slid back into a ditch. I see a few electric ones and some hydraulic ones but not much out there on how good they really are or reliability on the bigger units. I plan on running a winch in the front and the rear. Currently I'm using chains and straps to do the job but want something big enough to pull myself out if need be.
When picking a rear leaf spring like you did for your Colorado and yj truck did you have a go to spring pack? Or can you give me some info on your process. I’m coming up to that part on a personal project soon. Thanks!
Hey Ian. I pulled the trigger on a goat built Scrambler chassis. What is your opinion on full hydraulic steering vs hydraulic assist for a rig that will be driven on the street?
Any experience with inner air type bead locks such as Staun style? How would you rate them compared to the wheels with bolt on beadlock rings or the newer style wheels with the inner wheel ridge such as Method?
When it comes to body armor/bumpers do you prefer steel or Aluminum? I’m building my second JK (2dr) and I’m trying to keep the weight down since those accessories add tons of weight.
I say the best guess would be on the unfinished project. The Zombie Apocalypse Rig 😁 I remember you telling me you tried to buy it but "they" wouldn't allow it. DICKS!!! Note that this is typed before you actually saying what it is in this show... 🧟♂ I always wanted to see that thing run with the portal axles. Edit: Yeah I wanted to see that half priced raptor finished too... Edit: Damn, I guessed wrong lol. Edit: OOoooOooOo Maybe I was partly right (got to that point in the video) 😁😁🧟🧟♂🧟♀🧟♂🧟🧟♂🧟♀
So i have a favorite project you built and it was the nissan 720 with the sd22 diesel. What was your honest opinion on that specific rig and were the pitbulls a good tire on that truck?
I feel like the “free tire guy” is talking about milestars 🤣
Don’t get there off-road only milestars. Side walls are super weak.
Absolutely!
100% agree 😂
Thank you for all the tire talk. I agree that it is based on the vehicle and where you wheel makes a big difference. A UA-camr recently got feed up with the “best” tire because of sidewall failures!!😂
No BS around here. Lol. I love the videos. I've been watching Ian since I was just out of high school.
Great Fishin’ in Kwee-bec
I think I remember the 'Half Priced Raptor'. I'd like to see you accomplish that project.
Glad to hear your engine lock up
Love the insite and detail in your answers. It's great to hear no bs answers!
I absolutely love my Nitto Trail Grapplers!!
I really enjoy your question and answer videos. Please keep making this format of videos. This one was so good I subscribed to your channel.

I always wondered what happened to that ultra4 Bronco with the Coyote. I always wanted to see that one finished
I really dig your Q&A stuff and I may have to order a coffee mug. I really liked the crawler hauler project. Would you ever do something like that again?
I loved the Cooper STT Pro on my 3/4 Chevys. Mostly back roads etc and tow/hunting rig. Alot of people hate them though!
Love the integrity and honesty you have with these answers!
I really enjoy your Q and A. I wish I had your talent. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee that could use your talent.
Love it, still cooking so here for the premiere
I love these Q&A videos, I always learn something new.

Love this episode. I am not into the 4x4 world. I race spec Miata. But I love to watch shows that build vehicles to be used and not just looked at.
Me as well....I love the Spec Miata Stuff
great honesty! from a fellow Canadian right there! you should come back to Ontario and do a show maybe help out build maybe??
Hello from the Ottawa region
We all miss Jessi, I'm sure there are many moments, but what moments stand out as some of your favorites with her?
Ian, please explain how you landed in Tennessee with the Big Tire Garage; Where have you been based previously?
Really agree Ian. I have driven all over in Australia in all kinds of vehicles and totally agree
Been a fan since early 2000,zndz Stay up bro keep the arc flo,n and the fabrication rollin 🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸😎🥷

Sure would be nice if there was one answer on tires but that was a well thought out response.

Outstanding info on tires and project vehicles Thanks
Speaking of the Comanche Accuair has come out with a Jeep specific air kit.
The defender is one of my top 3 projects and I loved the start of the bronco. Glad you brought those up. Would love to run into you in Kentucky sometime in the defender. We should run hell for certain and Cohen creek.
What a great answer even though it was a no answer.
Because its the actual truth...
Great Tire chat, enjoyed that and fully agree. Is there any Rig you would build over again just because of how much fun it was?
Love the local bourbon recommendation back in February. What is your favorite bourbon? Tire usage is different for east coast vs west coast. Alot of east coast don't use stickies, where alot more would use them on the west coast. IMO.
I know a TON of peeps using stickies on the east coast

The best tire is the one that gets you home/off the trail at the end of the day.
Ian! I was watching an old episode of Xtreme4x4 and noticed the black boots with flames, I think you need to break those back out for old times sake😂
If I could I would...I don't think they make em anymore
@@BigTireGarage that’s a shame, what were they?
Let’s talk about that LS swap Comanche project behind you!

I wish I could find a long travel kit for the 97-03 f150 4x4 so I could build my own half priced raptor.
Great info as always.

I still follow the NPR. I even found one of my own, but with GMC badges, KP60 and 241c. Whatever happened to the cheap turbo-yota skeeter-fogger?
Are you happy with the layout of the Big Tire Garage? Now that you have settled in and turned out a few projects what would you change if anything?
Hey Ian watching some of the old xtreme offroad episodes. Was just wondering what happened to the crawler hauler?
What's your thoughts on lunchbox lockers? I'm running a Spartan in the rear on a Dana 44 and a Yukon Grizzly zip locker in the front on a Dana 30.
