I have been a marine engineer for over fifty years now. I have worked on similar plant in my career on different types of ships. This old ammonia plant will never be seen again. What a pity that it has not been preserved
It's truly tragic, particularly because it's one of a kind
it is a shame. well, there are newer systems using NH3 (it is en vogue again..) but this is truly monumental and the sound of those compressors was incredible too.
there is a video and a presentation about the place here on yt that were published by someone else a few years ago.
The commentator blames the council for leaving the ice factory to rot but it has never been owned by the council. It was a privately run concern and upon ceasing production the responsibility for the building passed to APB, the owners of the docks on whose land it is sited. I believe that they extensively tried to promote its possible uses worldwide but no company wanted to take on such a huge building. There was nothing the council could do. It now belongs to a local entrepreneur who hopefully, will be able to salvage some, if not all of the building.
As a team you produce the very best exploration videos on YT 👍
Appreciate that massively
Totally agree 👍 😊
Cycle past this regularly so great to see the inside and compressors … good explore and always good films ❤
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Balls of steel going over that old bridge! Loved the iron spiral staircases ❤
This takes me back to why urban exploration caught my interest, before I worked where I do now (hospital environment) I worked in a market food hall on a fish stall.
I absolutely stunk lol...some of the fish looked amazing though, fresh tuna, Tilapia, mullet, and shark...which was delicious, my favourite was salmon. and many more..it was an honest days work.
An industry that served many with jobs and food on the table...all gone because of EU fishing laws...great explore, sadly gone to rot, only thing its got going for it is its listed status...for what it is worth...
hope it can be preserved for years to come...
Being born and bred in Cleethorpes, this place is well-known to me. Amazing how they left it
What a fantastic video Lads and loved the fashion shoot too. Although the location and building made it a very worthwhile explore, the loss of this building is surely a missed opportunity to demonstrate a very important part of British history and would have made a fantastic museum. Thanks as always for your efforts in sharing with us.
Haha! A museum would have been the best result for the factory definitely, but I think it's too far gone now. Could have been like the Chatterley Whitfield Visitor experience with a few protected paths going through safer areas of the buildings
Such a great video! I'm a urban explorer to so this channel just relates to me SO much and you guys post the most perfect videos your channel is honestly the best it makes my day so much hope you guys have a great week and keep exploring!
Thank you so much for the sweet words, hope you have a nice week too :)
@@Urbandoned ❤
love your videos Alastair listened to you on the radio yesterday was lovely to hear you on a radio station you guys should release merch one day keep up the amazing content 😁
Maybe someday, thanks for tuning in!
Such a shame that it’s a protected building that gets left to rot. Some lovely features with the windows and spiral stairs. A very bright space. Thanks for sharing 😊
Lovely windows in dire need of repair.. no worries :)
I live just outside Grimsby and pass the Icehouse daily.
Never seen inside the place so was interesting.
Just crumbling away but can’t be touch as it’s listed.
What's the point honestly? List it with an idea of how to prevent it from crumbling. Silly
@@Urbandoned totally agree.
Fantastic video! always wanted to see inside like this, i pass it every day and wonder what its like. its much much better condition than i actually thought in some places. its a real shame its not being looked after.
Very interesting. I don’t know if it’s just me but an ice factory isn’t something I would ever have thought existed 😂 I know we have freezers obviously and ice dispensers but it just never entered my head haha
I worked in industry. The plant had Ammonia refrigeration. I knew that was what they were. Big beasts however. Thanks for showing.
A scene for the film Atonement was filmed outside and in the compressor hall in 2006. I was one of the extras. I can see where I stood and even got into the trailer but most of the scenes were cut from the final film. We were told don't touch a thing unless you want something nasty from the pigeon droppings.
Loved the fashion shoot at the beginning lads, an unexpected change of pace 😄
Nice explore. The compressors are amazing. I also really like the cast iron stairs. Would love to have a home in industrial style and those stairs
Really enjoyed this video dudes …. Keep the awesomeness coming peace ✌🏼 out 😊
Those compressors are amazing. I would have loved to hear and see them running. What a cool place...no pun intended...lol
Haha! Thanks
Wow! Absolutey amazing to see, thankyou guys
No problem
I hate to see all the gorgeous old buildings in Grimsby getting destroyed we had so many and Grimsby council has over the years encouraged the decay just look around welholme it's still happening today big house near people's park looks deserted so tempted to have a look.
Cool 🙂 Another great explore thanks
fantastic find!
moved to Grimsby last year :)
Awesome video
This place looked awesome! The natural decay really made it for me. Great work as always guys!
Thanks mate
It’s being turned into a hotel , the work has already started
love this video!!!
Oh my God guys, that was an amazing video. Well done for showing us that very dangerous but good. I was only in Grimsby last week and I never thought that was there.👍
Fantastic video 👏
J AND E hall produced lifts aswell in the early 1900s possibly a connection between them. Not 100% sure though. Great vid btw 👍🏻
@5:38>H2SO4, that's Sulphuric Acid!!!!
Everytime i try and explore it i always have a argument with the security
Hi it’s shame they can’t keep some machinery for a museum
Been past this awesome building hundreds of times. You can see where they tried to demolish it before finding out it's a Grade 2 listed building. Last time I went past, there was a HUGE pile of bricks from the partial demolition. The movie 'Atonement' was also filmed there.
Great video! stay safe men🧊👍
Will do !
Yo chaps . Not watched for about 6 months, just down to work and stuff. So going to be catching up in the coming days. LOL - liking the fashion intro, neat one! '. I provide consultancy work to the fish industry in Grimsby now and again (and just about any other industry too), so know the area well. This video is especially interesting as only a week or so ago I was at "the" No1 UK factory that provides ice currently to the UK and beyond. / Would not be surprised if those glazed green tiles are mildly radioactive (uranium oxide glaze), very popular in hospitals of the same period. / Mark.
Thanks for sharing this information, that's fascinating about the tiles. Obviously wouldn't be used today! Good to hear you're close by to this one, glad you enjoyed. Enjoy the catch up :)
I swear there's an abandoned asylum near Sleaford, I think it's called Rauceby maybe yall should check it out
Sadtosee whatsbecomeofthatplace I was collectingicefromthere many years ago. So noisy but so difficult to geticebackinthosrdays the codwar dwsroy
Alistair, what refrigerant was used in that plant?? Judging by the age of the place I'd say that they used amonia.
I believe plans are approved by the council to turn it in to a hotel, entertainment venue etc.
So you can bet the contractors will make every excuse not to save anything historic, the council will rurn a away and say nothing!
Its a shame if some of the machinery doesn't get saved!
Hey guys, I love your videos and attitude.
I have an abandoned building near me in Swinton, lancs. Called the Lancastrian hall which I think may be of interest to you, also I would really like to see just what it's like inside as from the outside it's a eyesore for the whole community
I was there recently, we're working on it ;)
Guess why it closed: They forgot the recipe!!!!
Howd ya get in there 🤣 our plan is send drone up to spot security n run in when they aint around 😆
My Dad was last chief engineer sadly pass last year. I have rare things from there can't say whot I have just in case. I EXPLORES on UA-cam
Sadly, it looks as if the local Lobotomies have been in there before you guys!!!
Up to 70 worked in this factory.
Thatcher shot it by culling the railway and then the UK joined the EU to find out that wooden barrels can’t be used for foodstuffs.
Allen Brydges, the last cooper, died 2017 aged 94.
Too bad it didn’t come back after Brexit.
😂😂😂😂 whats with them mad sounds in back n no not the seguls
