A wonderful performance. There is an inner truth and vitality to this piece where people will be listening to, and imitating Philip Glass's music for a hundred years. Thank you!
I read that PG was mesmerized by the sound of his railroad car speeding across tracks betw Baltimore, his hometown, and Chicago, where he attended college. One can hear distinctly that influence in the beginning of this movement. Lulls me to sleep many nights. And I’m beyond refreshed the next morning. And that’s a great violin solo.
Years later this is still incredibly beautiful.
Bravo! well done!😊
Agreed - Glass is such a genius, I can't wax lyrical enough about what this music does to me. I always think Mvt 4 is lik a movie soundtrack!
Some music just makes you happy.
Glass is Genius!!!! Genius of present time.
Glass is a talentless charlatan who has conned many gullible people.
How do you "con" people who listen to your music and love it? No one has to listen, but Glass lovers do so willingly. Isn't it wonderful we all have choices and can choose things that make us happy and turn off the things that don't, rather than trying to ruin others' happiness. Peace.
so well done
If I close my eyes I can't even hear they are musical instruments. Amazing.
Just glorious.
No solo de pan vive el hombre. Esto es alimento para el alma.
superbe performance! merci
J-L from Lyons.
Excellent! Bravo!
Once saw an interview with Serj Tankian where he mentioned being huge fan of this piece. I’ve never been able to unhear Movement IV as some kind of proto-System of a Down track lol
I luv how the basses introduce themselves in 14:14
Very nice:)
movement 4 great
Muy bien ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
This is awesome!
Maybe it's the time of morning, but this sounds SO GOOD.
Glass almost always varies his repetitive rhythms/harmonies but if you only hear repetition you're not hearing the music. Schoenberg's "emancipation of the dissonance " made people only focus on use of dissonance though it's always much more. In both cases technique becomes style and the goal is personal expression.
Glass est le Beethoven de notre époque, un génie

You really should say what's the name of that ensemble and where and when they played it. Please :)
11:13 - Start of movement 4
последняя треть даёт ощущение детективного загадочного действия или жуткого поединка на мечах
Hola Chatterabq! Me permites editar tu video? Quiero separar el tercer movimiento y volverlo a subir solo! Gracias!
I prefer Symphony 1 to Symphony 3 but this movement is among my favorite compositions by the composer.
Glass did Bowie and Eno an enormous favor. When Drake and Elvis and Hendrix and Mitchell and Motown are forgotten Bowie and Eno might be remembered as providing material for Glass symphonies 1 and 3.
Hi Chatterabq! Could you allow me edit your video? I want to split just the third movement and upload it again! Thank you!
Stop ... This Symphony is.... For 19 musicians.... Where is others???
It's excruciating enough to have to play this unceasingly repetitious music at all, I can't imagine being told you can't sit down!
Whether I open or close my eyes, I hear no 'music'. Charlatans like this must be exposed.
Why do you say that? Also glass never lied to anyone about his music. He simply made it, some people like it, some don't but that does not make him a charlatan.
Beauty is in the ear/ mind of the beholder.
