Happy new gear, err... year! Originally shared exclusively with supporters, I hope you enjoy this change of pace with a raw & (relatively) uncut peek behind the curtain of the ЯR kitchen. Ooh sneaky! A very informative video @Retro Recipes. For just a moment I thought we were going to see the hidden room you keep Ashleyfractic in. Fortunately it turned out to be a "bathroom" / wash room / water closet. I found the microphone information very interesting. I am always glad to learn these useful bits of information wherever I can. I'm always a little envious when I see the PCW machine which achieved growth in the market where the QL so ingloriously failed. Darn those microdrives and innovative 'professional' keyboard. An affordable word processor was a very impressive product despite the non-standard 3 inch disk drives. It seems Google holds a lot of power in your studio set up, automating certain tasks for you. Still as long as there is a manual override you should be okay even if Google services go down temporarily. Wishing you a fantastic 2021 Peri, for you and the whole Fractic family, including the patrons.
@@SoulPoetryandOtherWorks Thanks Michael! And Google hold even more power if you count that they own UA-cam itself! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They've been very kind to me, as have all of you. Here's to 2021! 👍🕹
I don't think many people realize how diverse you are as a UA-camr. You're the host, the set designer, the director, the script writer, the composer, the editor and the list goes on and on! 😵

It's not the studio or the room itself that makes the videos special it's the people who stand or sit in front of the camera and share their lives with us! Gadgets and toys from your past seem like just sentimental objects of the past until hearing the change in your voice and the way that you talk about them tells a greater story about those who have given you these things. Time well spent with you. Great Video! Keep going you doing great! and... Happy New Year to you and your family all the best for 2021!
Thanks for pulling the curtain back and letting us see inside. Enjoy your channel a lot. Learning a lot for my own channel Floppy Deep Dive and you show how it’s suppose to be done! Bravo!
I love the way the camera can create space and magic from a set. It takes a skillfully laid out set to do it. Thanks for the tour of your rooms, very interesting. Cheers
Thank you for sharing your set up and digs! Alot of the things you have shown brings back alot of great memories for me. I have supported computer systems my entire life and seen how technology has advanced over the years from my childhood, military, and years with the government. I probably had almost every computer and game system you can think of over my life. Those MACs bring back additional memories of using them when I was in Kindergarten. That's great to know as the long form videos can be quite a lot of work to edit. It's good to know I can do these and still have them appreciated. Thank you.
@@RetroRecipes Thanks. I know you put a lot of effort into the highly edited videos, so I almost feel a bit bad saying it. Anyway, I've decided to become a patron so you can put my enormous contribution toward buying some new dad jokes. :)
It still amazes me, what this old hardware is still capable of, when you see what people can do with it to this day is awesome, and the support that we see even to this day from those who love the platforms still is fantastic (an Amiga fan here - still seeing people produce games for the systems makes me happy) And also thank you Perifractic for this great behind the scenes look, I always wondered how your room was set-up, another awesome video. Happy new year to you all and may 2021 be a great one for yourselves. I hope you hit that 100K subscribers and beyond this year.
Thank you for this great Tour! I noticed the Quickshot Ball Joystick thingen in other Videos before, an i am astonished anyone besides me had one of those! When i bought my C64, it came with that Joyball. I remember playing Green Beret and all Games with it, and damn my Hand hurt! I was so happy once i got a "proper" Joystick.
Happy New Year Chris! Love the studio tour. I too gave away my first computer (a VIC 20) but I dont regret it as ir gave a leg up to my friends little brother to get into computers back in the day. Also for some reason I focused in on your box of Daisy wheels... I spent an inordinate amount of time tracking down a Silver Reed Daisy Wheel typewriter, as it has a Centronics port... And I just love the sound of it when I hook it up to my Tandy WP2 to print stuff out. Reminds me of the part of my life in the late 80s when I worked as a mainframe operator and the ' train' printers which worked on a similar principle...
I've also still got that game calculator from my youth. I bought it on holiday and played in a caravan on a Haven site. Played it quite a lot on and off for the next 2 to 3 years. Great video by the way.
Happy new year full of succes and joy for all of you (You, Laidyfractic and dogs). Thanks for this tour. It was incredible interresting to have a little sneak peak behind the camera. Looking forward to any of your video in this year. Dont know yet what it will be about, but Im sure, that it will bring so many happines and joy.
Sitting on the couch watching TV, I was opening a small package with a circuit board for an internal memory upgrade project for my QL. All of a sudden, next to me, my wife goes "PCBWayyyyyy." A bit surprised since she doesn't really watch retro videos. Happy New Year!
I'm astonished how orderly everything is, even off-camera. Every production I've ever worked, as soon as you step out of the lights, it's chaos unchained... Happy New Year!! Though I'm certain PCB stands for "Perifractic's Clever Byword." 😁
Really enjoyed the tour. I'd just like to say thanks for all the great content in 2020. It's fantastic to see how the channel is growing, definitely won't be long until you reach 100k subscribers. Happy new year to you and I look forward to more great recipodes this year.
Loved the video. I’m so ashamed of the amount of retro equipment and media I’ve got rid of through the years. If only I’d realised that years on, I’d be watching stuff like this, remembering flicking through boxes of 3.5 inch discs.
Oh yeah, I'd love to see a video of your trip to meet our PCB Way peeps (which is already in person -- I mean any time you actually _meet_ someone, it's already in person). That would be a pretty great video, especially if they gave you -- aghehm... I mean... US -- a tour of their factory!
Great "Behind the Scenes" stuff!... It is all much appreciated. I realize how much work goes into filming and editing..even UA-cam videos...It's lots of work!..and lots of personal time. Much Thanks Perifractic... I love all of the things that you work on...You have a great devoted viewing audience now... You have a very nice little home studio...! Haha, nice touch at the end with recording the ending from a future video into this one and then seamlessly blending the mic audio of the music from there into the internal feed of the same just before fading out!
Happy New GEAR Chris, and wishing you have many more. Thank you for the great behind the scenes studio tour. Very envious of your Starwars cockpit (what a dream arcade machine to sit and play in). Great to hear that there is an up and coming upgrade video to your Amstrad PC, thought some how I'd already missed viewing it. I'm sure it'll bring back memories of when I used to repair them (during and out of warranty) and install HDD upgrade kits (which included new model number stickers to attach to the front panel to indicate the fitted HDD and capacity... Sorry no spare stickers... Long gone). Will look with interest to see if you fit a factory style kit or use a more modern path with an ISA (onboard BIOS) IDE card (which Amstrad later did use), and an IDE to CF card or SD card adapter... or similar device? and see if you ended up with a functional Amstrad mouse. Keep up the great UA-cam retro video content. Cheers!
Again, great vids :) I really enjoy your channel. I've finally bought a c64 (+ moniteur, drive and printer) in mint condition. Soon an Amiga 500... recreating my retro collection after moving from Belgium to Canada. It is so nice to see there is still an active community using these useless machines ;) Useless but feels so good - and so ahead of their :)
Yeah! Astro Wars! Here in Germany it was called Galaxy II and was the first game I ever completed....sort of, as it starts over, when you get the score counter over the edge.
Happy New Year, buddy! Nice choice with the Rode shotgun mics. Got 4 of those exact models myself and the setup is perfect for podcasts and Let's Plays. Quality is top notch. Great video! Always nice to see behind the scenes of great content creators.
Really enjoyed seeing behind the scenes! Watching your videos i always wonder whats the the left, the right and behind the camera. Now I know :) thank you for sharing.
You've done very cool things so far from what I've seen. The important thing is that you already have the passion and the will. The rest is just semantics 😊
I still definitely have a plan to visit and make a few videos there when the pandemic leaves us. I will still need a translator to come along with us in Tokyo 😊
@@RetroRecipes As much as I would love to take you both on a tour, I'm not good as a translator.. 😅 But I have a couple of good friends (translators) who could help you out. When you come let me know 😁👍
Great to see the behind the scenes. Gives me some hope of one day having a shooting set up because behind the camera does not need to be ‘worried about’.
Awesome studio Chris! So cool that you can have so many machines set up. Love that Star Wars Arcade 1 Up too. The dog os the best though. I would love to have something like this studio one day. Happy new year and keep up the great work in 2021! -AmigaBill
Great tour of a dream studio! No MSX or CPC computers? Few consoles? I collect only those machines that I actually used at least once as a child, but that's still rather large because it includes that of my friends back then, and not only those I or my father owned. Same for you?
It's a beautiful thing to see all your systems set up and ready to play on one tv with just a click of a button. I was never that organised and always frustrated growing up that I wasn't able to have every computer and games console set up ready! Aha! Sadly I've sold off all my games consoles and am only left with an Amstrad 464 that hasn't seen a power up for over 20 years plus and an Amiga 500 plus with A570 (cdtv) that I think flickers orange (sad times) R.I.P Amiga 500+ lol Anywhooooo, keep up the good work! :)
You know, something that's interesting: You said that this tour video is "raw and uncut," but I know I've still seen plenty of cuts in it (at least stops and restarts), and the of course you do still have the music backing.
Yes, "relatively" uncut. It just felt a bit boring when I was waiting five seconds for Google to talk to Samsung smartthings, so I made little chops here and there. I care about that stuff too much probably ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like how you pronounced "lavalier." It sounds more authentically French than the way a lot of us say it ("lah * vuh * LEER"). I'll try to say it this way from now on.
Thanks for the show around and thanks for everything you do. I hope you get your 100000 subscribers plaque soon and I’m looking forward to seeing it in future videos. The other dog was a pleasant surprise! I thought Puppyfractic was the only hound of the household.
Your retro room is so much more organized than mine! Normally the only computer or game system hooked up for me is which ever one I am filming that week :) (Usually my TRS-80)
Hehe well there is often a lot more chaos between big setups, like the DoubleJoy "vs" videos. But the more you go on the better the workflow becomes. I'm very much still learning... All the best to you and keep up the good work my N. American friend! :-)
Thanks for sharing as it was always amazing to see what can be done in part of your home. You have a fantastic channel and loved hearing about some of your other jobs. Happy New Year and if ever you come back to the UK, come and visit the Retro Computer Museum in Leicester where I help out!
Whoa! You're still less than 100K subs!? I never looked (it doesn't show on the Roku TV app). But with your level of production quality I would have pegged you at 500k+. Mind blown right now. Anyway, keep up the good work, I'm sure you'll blow through the roof any week now. Happy 2021, Fractic Family!
Thank you so much. I've been going less than 3 years so for this small niche subject I'm pretty much on track. The heavy hitters with over a million subscribers have been going well over a decade. I hope to hit 100,000 within the next month or two 🤞
@@RetroRecipes You'll make it to 100k subs! I have faith in you! (Hmm the force is strong with this one!) You have come a long way from cramming 2 wall worts into box for a C64 power supply and almost putting your eye out (Remember that video?) to the greatness that you have achieved! ;)

Wow so neat!
Great clip! (Glad to see a small fire extinguisher there)
Really enjoyed seeing behind the scenes! Watching your videos i always wonder whats the the left, the right and behind the camera. Now I know :) thank you for sharing.
Interesting tour and aaahh... all those memories you shared! 😍
19:51 a "Peri"board... 😂
Well spotted! We are indeed going with the Periboard by Perixx!
I find your setup so incredibly inspiring. Someday, I hope to further enhance my setup and hope to one day have it almost as presentable as yours.
You've done very cool things so far from what I've seen. The important thing is that you already have the passion and the will. The rest is just semantics 😊
@@RetroRecipes you are very kind. Thank you!
Cheers for that and all the best for 2021 to all the gang...
And to you!
"I've got so much stuff I never play with...." - story of my garage!! Haha :) Love the tour thank u!
🤭
A very enjoyable Tour
😁
Hope to see you here in Japan soon 🎏
I still definitely have a plan to visit and make a few videos there when the pandemic leaves us. I will still need a translator to come along with us in Tokyo 😊
@@RetroRecipes As much as I would love to take you both on a tour, I'm not good as a translator.. 😅 But I have a couple of good friends (translators) who could help you out.
When you come let me know 😁👍
@@Scigor Great I'll keep note and reach out if needed. Thanks!
Great to see the behind the scenes. Gives me some hope of one day having a shooting set up because behind the camera does not need to be ‘worried about’.
I have the same red Strat only left handed. Happy New Year!
Awesome studio Chris! So cool that you can have so many machines set up. Love that Star Wars Arcade 1 Up too. The dog os the best though. I would love to have something like this studio one day. Happy new year and keep up the great work in 2021! -AmigaBill
Thank you so much Bill! Puppyfractic says may the Paws be with you 🚀
Happy New Year!, Christian I hope you both have a awesome 2021
Great tour of a dream studio!
No MSX or CPC computers? Few consoles?
I collect only those machines that I actually used at least once as a child, but that's still rather large because it includes that of my friends back then, and not only those I or my father owned. Same for you?
Well I only have so much room so all of the computers on display are ones that I owned or used as a child. 2 Amstrads there though!
A Retro Recipes road trip, well air trip, to China would be amazing! Maybe roll some retro Chinese tech into the episode/series?
It's actually been planned for a while... but then COVID. Will revisit!
@@RetroRecipes I guess that'll be a Post-Covid Break-a-Waaaay then? (sorry, I couldn't resist) 😂🤦♂️
@@Greedygoblingames ha exactly!
Thanks for the show around and thanks for everything you do. I hope you get your 100000 subscribers plaque soon and I’m looking forward to seeing it in future videos.
The other dog was a pleasant surprise! I thought Puppyfractic was the only hound of the household.
Thank you! There's 3 of them here. Most featured in the "Keycaps retrobrighting hack" video a while back 😉
Retro Recipes I’ll go on a doggo hunt and watch some older videos 😊
You seem to live in a dust free enviroment m8, good work! Great tour vid, always nice to see what goes on behind the scenes :)
Great episode. I really enjoyed seeing how your episodes are created. Happy New Year. Soon you will hit the 100K subscriber level!
I used to love the argus catalogue 👍
Thanks for sharing as it was always amazing to see what can be done in part of your home. You have a fantastic channel and loved hearing about some of your other jobs. Happy New Year and if ever you come back to the UK, come and visit the Retro Computer Museum in Leicester where I help out!
Awesome thank you! Could you drop me an email as I have a question? peri@perifractic.com 👍🕹️
I remember having a "Koala Pad" I think it was called? I also have original commodore joysticks in a box somewhere. LOL. Great channel !!
So cool! Thank you for sharing that with us. Happy 2021! :)
Ah, we all have those off force days, but at least your real light sabre was working. ^^
🤭
Happy New Year to both of you :)
Same to you!
(Hmm the force is strong with this one!) You have come a long way from cramming 2 wall worts into box for a C64 power supply and almost putting your eye out (Remember that video?) to the greatness that you have achieved! ;)
@@the8bitbarn836 Haha thank you so much! Which one was the eye out? I remember the wall warts well!
@@RetroRecipes ua-cam.com/video/UCdXV0X6wEY/v-deo.html Almost put your eye out when you where pushing the plastic piece out that you cut for the cord. @23:48
@@the8bitbarn836 OMG thank you, I had completely forgotten that. One in a million shot!
Nice job. Loved the video! Even thou I am a Commodore type of guy, I am really looking forward to the episode on the Amstrad 1512 upgrade/mod video. I got to check that one out. I don't remember seeing that. Also, I love the Amiga 500 Vampire as well. Keep up the great work!
I'm actually still working on it so stay tuned ☺️ So glad you liked this!!
